Would parents buy emergency nappy kits for days out?

Not a business or entrepreneur but someone had asked me this and I posted in parenting as thought it was interesting, but was informed it seems like a business question:

Would you buy an emergency nappy kit if you’re out and about and have forgotten the changing bag etc?
this could be at the zoo
bus day trip etc

Highly unlikely that a parent of a nappy-aged child would forget to bring the nappies when they go out.

It happens.

I often wish I could get emergency kits - some plasters, a sanitary towel, hair ties, when I’m out and about.

It's happened to me but I was in a restaurant. It's the only time so I think the would be hard to shift them on a frequent basis and you would need so many sizes of nappy. Not worth the effort!

AreBearsCatholic · 01/06/2026 14:34

I never forgot the nappies but on some memorable occasions they went through many more than I had expected while out and about. Then I just bought a whole bag of nappies, it’s not like you aren’t going to use them all. I’ve also given nappies to other parents caught without one.
The only market I can see is in closed places like theme parks where it’s hard to go outside to a normal shop, but I think other parents would help out there too. You’d also need 6 sizes, it wouldn’t be a single product for a shop to carry.

Isn’t an ‘emergency nappy kit’ just a nappy?

Quite. At home we do it properly with creams and wipes but if we have an unplanned emergency when we’re out we just whip a nappy off and put a new one on. You don’t need a kit, just nappies in a range of sizes.

No

Ive had this problem when out with sanitary towels, i always have one or two in my bag but i have been caught out.
Thankfully our local library have a free basket in the loos with some in it, if none just ask at the desk.

coronafiona · 01/06/2026 15:07

Not nappies but I do remember needing emergency clothes occasionally!

Okdokeyartichoke · 01/06/2026 15:08

The only time I needed a nappy (had forgotten to restock the bag) another mum gave me one - most places where you would take your baby will have other babies around, and most parents will help out if you’re stuck.

I can’t imagine there’s much of a market for buying an emergency kit (presumably a couple of nappies and a small pack of wipes?), and you’d need to have multiple different sizes of nappies available. Maybe a vending machine for emergency nappy kits would work?

I don’t have that local to me.

An emergency nappy kit would also be useful for people like me - I babysit but don’t have my own kids. I’m not buying a full pack of nappies!

Maybe you could make a few kits yourself, my friend does it.
Two nappies two nappie sacks a small pack of wipes i tiny little tub or tube of cream, she also adds a small packet of snacks and a mini juice carton.

I dont have kids either, but i do have a emergency pad kit now lol pads min wipe and pain killers.

edited for spelling mistake.

I forget tons of stuff. But I never managed to forget the nappy bag, partly because it doubled as my handbag.

Clothes maybe, I'm sure I've bought clothes due to accident, but I can't even remember if it was sat on wet floor or spilled water, it wasn't a toilet accident.
Just a soaking wet child.

But if I was out with a baby and another mum was short and came and asked if they could have a nappy I'd give them one.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 01/06/2026 15:15

I can't see there being a market for emergency nappies. Most people take a well stocked bag out. I used to have spares in the car too. I'd just go and buy a whole pack or ask another parent if the place I was visiting didn't have any.

Twinklefeet · 01/06/2026 15:15

I can see a market for alsorts of emergency kits.

Surely the mums provide a nappy bag that goes with the children when your babysitting?

Happytaytos · 01/06/2026 15:17

I don't know how this would work in reality. Sales would be small and sporadic and require quite a few different sizes. The mark up would be tiny as most people wouldn't need the service.

NuffSaidSam · 01/06/2026 15:17

I've definitely needed one of these in the past, but probably only twice in twenty years of childcare. I don't think there would be a big market for it.

silenceinthemind · 01/06/2026 15:18

yeah id have just bought a bag of nappies and some wetwipes from the nearest shop.

Meadowfinch · 01/06/2026 15:19

I wouldn't.

My ex certainly would. He was forever going out, taking the changing bag withi him but forgetting to check if it contained any nappies. Used to drive me mad

midnights92 · 01/06/2026 15:19

I would imagine anywhere that would sell an emergency kit would also sell nappies, so can't really see that it's filling a gap in the market.

Newname26 · 01/06/2026 15:20

What does make sense is for pools to stock swim nappies, but my memory has it the individual nappies at the pool were about the same price as a pack of 10 in the supermarket

Sometimes, but sometimes they run out.

Glowingup · 01/06/2026 15:39

Yeah I can see mini-packs of nappies, maybe four or five being a seller. People forget all sorts of things. You’d think people wouldn’t forget their keys, their passports, their glasses but it happens. Especially if you use a cheaper brand and don’t want to pay for the nose or don’t have room for a big packet but want enough to tide you over.

My SIL was in this predicament yesterday when visiting my mum and I was there too. My DB had gone out but nappies were in his car. Her son had pooed quite badly in his nappy but the only thing she could do was wipe most of the shit away and wait until DB came back with the nappies. I did ask if she wanted to pop to the shops to get some more nappies but she said she’d need the buggy and I asked if she wanted me to go to the shops but she said no. She’d just buy more nappies and wipes otherwise though, not as if they’re not used. So no, I don’t think a spare set to buy would work.
