Help with the Business Name / logo Please - HR

Hi

I am in the early stages of setting up my business. I am a HR specialist and am looking to offer a HR Advisory service. This will be two-fold. The first will be for employers to outsource their HR (this is what I do in my day job, I am a senior HR consultant with 10+ years experience) and the second will be an employee assistance service for a fixed fee (i.e. bespoke support with a grievance or sickness matter for example).

I wanted the name to feature the initials ‘HR’ given its a HR service. I also want a simple but professional logo, so thought of the name ‘Human Reassurance’. The logo would look like this. I liked it at first, but not sure the name is too gimmicky?!

I would welcome any initial feedback.

thanks

Sorry - don’t particularly like the name. I feel HR is a company internal system, if you are offering support as an outside resource then I don’t think you should use HR. Too many people are let down by internal HR depts

edited - I am wondering if you should have two separate businesses - one for the Company and one for individuals

Sunflower8848 · 27/01/2024 23:07

Sorry but I think it’s a bit of a cringy name.

letstrythatagain · 27/01/2024 23:07

I work in HR too. Really love the logo. I think it's simply but very classy. Not so keen on the 'human reassurance' element though sorry. I can't think of anything better mind! 😂

Bump2024 · 27/01/2024 23:10

@BrightLightTonight thank you, I was hoping to have one business name but clearly define the services within the website.

@Sunflower8848 I will get my thinking cap back on, this is the hardest part I think!

@letstrythatagain thank you - I will keep the logo design but play around with the name. I appreciate your advice from a HR perspective too!

How about if I changed the name but kept the logo. So very basic Initials + Consulting, like this? I could either:

  • keep the big HR so it’s clear it’s a HR consultancy business; or
  • change the ‘HR’ to ‘NF’ to bring it in line with the name?

website would then be NFconsulting.co.uk or something similar?

I wouldn't use NF Consulting, too close to nef consulting.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 05:23

@OneFrenchEgg I can change the initials no problem 🙂

I'm a small consultancy owner. I actually quite like Human Reassurance, my initial reaction was that it was a bit naff, but I think it gives a, well, reassuring feeling that you've got their backs, it's a nice cosy feeling, though I don't think that's what the logo expresses particularly. But think how you'd feel saying it if you're introducing yourself in a meeting. I like a name that doesn't include your name, unless you're famous and want to capitalise on that, because it feels easier if you want to employ or contract other people - looks more like a company than just an individual. Also, if you ever wanted to sell the business it's better for it not to have your name. I don't agree that you need two names, that just makes the promotion much more complicated and time-consuming.

bryceQ · 28/01/2024 07:25

I think key considerations with naming companies

Is it memorable and easy to recollect

Is the domain available

Are other people called similar?

Are the words unique enough that you can rank on Google for your own company

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 07:26

Thank you @MurielThrockmorton. I don’t think I want to use my initials.

some other thoughts are (I need to look which ones are already taken):

• SVP Consulting - Success via People
• STP Consulting - Success through People
• PIP Consulting - Power in People

the problem with the above is that it limits me to just advising employers. Where something like the Human Reassurance means I could advise both employee and employer.

@bryceQ thank you, this gives me a lot to think through.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 07:44

The core of what I will be doing is advice on employment lifecycle issues, so grievances, dismissals, sickness, disciplinarians, redundancy etc

We use an external HR consultants and think the original first brand you showed is actually clever and good :)

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 07:55

@MiddleagedBeachbum thank you. It’s just not very snappy or concise, but just quite liked that the initials of it are HR so keeps with the nature of the services offered

OP posts:
MurielThrockmorton · 28/01/2024 08:09

I wouldn't use initials that are already used for something else in the field, so that would rule PIP out. I think initials are quite easily forgettable, better to have full words.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 08:13

Yes @MurielThrockmorton i thought that as I posted it!

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 08:29

I’m just trying to think of something that can be used for both employer and employee. Albeit majority will likely be enployer.

HR Assure / Assure HR are taken. why is this first bit so hard!

Put the text to the rhs side not underneath. Go look at the branding packs of some of the big corporates and think about the different ways you will use your logo. Branding isn't easy.

equinoxprocess · 28/01/2024 08:45

"<random catchy word> consulting"

"<random catchy surname from somewhere in your family tree> consulting"

Don't overthink it, you're a small consulting business. You just want a name the people who use/recommend your services can remember.

If you're essentially marketing yourself as the consultant then you're who people will recommend or engage and the specific consulting name is a side issue.

Professional services businesses just use combinations of surnames and letters, which then becomes a strong brand if what they deliver is good. I don't think you need a "clever" name.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 08:56

@equinoxprocess this would be J Jones Consulting but it’s already taken!

OP posts:
amidsummernightsdream · 28/01/2024 08:57

Go with the first version. Its a clever play on words that conveys the message you want. It’s clear, memorable and gives a feeling of trust.

The design is modern and elegant.

More than that, I assume that you are quite happy with it?

Different people will always have opinions, and not always right, go with what you think.

The logo is obviously only a small part and like you say, you will have plenty of opportunity to explain and expand on your website.

You are also right to keep the 2 services under one business/ website as you had planned.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 08:56

I said catchy and random.

Pick something that isn't already taken.

Bump2024 · 28/01/2024 09:27

@amidsummernightsdream I’m just not sure it’s too OTT.

@equinoxprocess yes, sorry, I was referring to your suggestion of a surname / name from family history
