Woven slings?

Have used a kari-me from birth with ds and he loves it - still likes the facing in hold at 6.5 mo when he's tired, but it's not holding him terribly securely if I try to tie him onto my hip, say. So I think I may need to change - should I get a woven sling or something like a mei-tai? What are pros and cons?

Am reading this thread with interest. I wonder if my hug-a-bub is the same as the aforementioned storchenwiege?

Habbibu · 25/04/2010 20:57

hug a bub looks like the kari-me. Is it quite stretchy?

OP posts:

no, the hug-a-bub is stretchy

storchenwiege is a woven wrap, so you can't pre-tie it, you have to wrap the baby in it

Habbibu · 25/04/2010 21:24

Hang on - so you don't tie it on? How do you do it then?

I have a Didymos woven wrap. It is THE BEST THING EVER.
I can still carry DS2 (2.10) easily on my back and have had DD in it from birth - tummy then back - it's comfy and versatile

WoTmania · 25/04/2010 21:29

thisisyesterday - you can pretie woven wraps in some ties when they are tiny but not at OP's baby's age.

thisisyesterday · 25/04/2010 21:30

WoT... how do you get it tight enough to be supportive??

WoTmania · 25/04/2010 22:02

When they are little there is a tie in the didymos book where you have to pretie
It worked, but only when they were small. You learn how tight to do it then wiggly then in. Can't be much more descriptive than that I'm afraid.

Habbibu · 25/04/2010 22:06

Argh! Tell me - you wrap the baby up and then tie it on to yourself? I don't understand...

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 25/04/2010 22:10

no, you wrap the baby as you tie it, iyswim!

youi know with the kari-me you can put it on, then put the baby in, because it's stretchy?

with a woven wrap you can't really do that, you need to get baby in position and then put the sling on round him.

Habbibu · 25/04/2010 22:14

I need a video. I have visions of lying flat on my back in a car park with ds wriggling on top of me as I try to wrap alsmost 5 metres of beautiful fabric around us both. I may get arrested.

The Elise has the book and DVD, habbibu. plus I can send you on some youtube vids I found helpful.

There is a pre-tie for the a simple front cross carry that can be used with bigger babies too. the dvd shows it and it is quite simple to do.

BessieBoots · 26/04/2010 06:45

Why did I look at this thread? I want a new wrap now...

Habbibu · 26/04/2010 10:39

All done, foxy - let me know if email/payment don't arrive.

OP posts:
JackBauer · 26/04/2010 19:48

you can sort of put it on first but without tying it

Habbibu · 26/04/2010 20:29

Oh, I see - kind of like the Kari-me in reverse. She makes heavy weather of it a bit, though - hope I get to do it quicker than that, or dd and ds will explode with impatience.

JackBauer · 26/04/2010 22:07

God yes, much fnning about and adjusting. And she still fecks it up as it isn't spread over her shoulders!

I could get a child on in a 5m wrap in under a minute, and on my back in under 2 (friend once timed me in playgroup)

JackBauer · 26/04/2010 22:11

This is my favourite carry though, poppins hip carry, so fast and easy and very comfy as well.
Perfect for babies with head control who are too big/nosy for a fwcc.

boogeek · 27/04/2010 12:52

JB I am going to try that later!
