After weeks of trawling the talkboards, chatting to parents and researching what's actually selling well, we put the best baby carriers money can buy to the test. Our mini-tester did some serious outdoor adventuring, and we conducted some real-life, careful testing to find out which product really deserved to come out on top.

Each of the baby carriers was put through its paces for a whole week, and tested on the following criteria – safety and stability, ease of assembly, day-to-day usefulness, cleanliness, aesthetics and value for money.

The results are in and the Stokke MyCarrier was our overall winner thanks to the huge levels of support it offered. Head over to our full list of Mumsnet's Best Baby Carriers to find out what we had to say about the other carriers we tested, whether you're on a budget or looking to splash out.

I love my beko Gemini. So comfortable front, back and side carrying. Easy to get on and off on your own. Cute prints too.

holycheeseplant · 04/03/2018 15:43

For me nothing beats a hand made to order Opitai, personally prefer half buckle. So padded!

BloodyWorried · 04/03/2018 18:26

I agree with dermymc I love the Beko Gemini, my favourite and most used sling by far.

RatOnnaStick · 04/03/2018 18:48

I tried many different carriers and the one which fit my curvy shape and broad shoulders best was the Tula. Tall, thin DH preferred a Manduca and my short, narrow shouldered friend liked her Beco Butterfly best. They are all excellent carriers but each one was better suited to different people.

rebelrosie12 · 04/03/2018 21:37

Another beko Gemini fan here!

badg3r · 04/03/2018 21:59

I love my beco soleil and beco Gemini. The soleil is more comfortable for older kids but the outward facing of the Gemini is great for babies.

Bumdishcloths · 04/03/2018 22:08

I've got a Tula and it's brilliant.

londonloves · 04/03/2018 22:38

Love my manduca.

IlanaRemikee46 · 04/03/2018 22:51

I adored my Totsbots Paoozle, my Moby wrap and my Patapum. I also had the most amazing stretchy fleece pouch that I lost when it fell out from under my buggy. Gutted. I liked the look of the Ergo but never had one, and woven wraps which work like the Moby but are higher tension material are probably the Holy Grail of wraps but by the time I realised that my youngest was barely carryable.

IlanaRemikee46 · 04/03/2018 23:04

Papoozle DOH!

Onynx · 04/03/2018 23:29

Adored my Ergo- very supportive for my back & baby was so comfy.

TheCatsMother44 · 05/03/2018 09:10

Ergo 360 is my winner!

ohlittlepea · 05/03/2018 11:06

I loved my ergo the best, not the 360 though, had a boba which was nice too. this time and a caboo wrap which we loved :)

StuntNun · 05/03/2018 13:01

I doubt the Stokke would have one if they had tested some decent baby carriers. If you insist on full buckle carriers then the Tula and Connecta would beat most of these hands down. The Manduca is another great contender although it tends to be a bit marmite. And why ignore all the other types of carrier? A ring sling will take you right through from newborn to toddler. And a woven wrap is by far the most flexible type of carrier yet it isn't even mentioned.

FoofFighter · 05/03/2018 14:29

Woven wrap or stretchy wrap wind every time

drinkyourmilk · 05/03/2018 18:18

Woven wrap here for me. So snug and fits all size babies and children

moonmaker · 05/03/2018 18:26

I'd love to know what carriers it competed with . Most sling consultants I know don't even stock this carrier and I attend sling meets and have never met anyone using this . The connecta, Tula, manduca are far superior carriers to this.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 05/03/2018 18:47

I loved my Beco Gemini. It was so comfortable and so supportive. I used a friend's Stokke one day and could t even manage a trip around Tesco without dreadful shoulder pain. And my little man was only 5 months at the time.

BonjourMinou · 05/03/2018 18:52

The connecta for me. But i would be interested in knowing the competition!

I was pleased to see the focus on ergonomic carriers and meeting TICKS guidelines.

StuntNun · 05/03/2018 18:56

How can the best carrier be the hardest to use? Surely new parents need a carrier that's easy to use.

SweetPeaPods · 05/03/2018 19:31

I loved my close Caboo in the early days then we bought a Boba 4G. Worth its money as still using it with nearly 3 yr old ds2.

Dermymc · 05/03/2018 19:31

I agree re the competition.

Did MN just choose 10 they were given?!

Beko is winning hands down here yet no sign of it....

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 05/03/2018 19:32

Woven wrap or ring sling.

GuinefortGrey · 05/03/2018 21:41

I spent several years as an independent sling and baby carrying consultant/library owner and the Beco Gemini was hands down the most popular carrier amongst my clients during that time. Closely followed by the Connecta. Simple to use, comfortable to wear.

I met several people at Sling meets who could never go back to their over-engineered, over-complicated, uncomfortable Stokkes (usually purchased pre-birth) after they had tried a Gemini or a Connecta (or an Ergo, Tula or Manduca).

Ceara · 05/03/2018 21:47

Caboo here for early months, then we moved on to a Connecta, with a ring sling for quick carries as he got older.
