After weeks of trawling the talkboards, chatting to parents and researching what's actually selling well, we put the best baby carriers money can buy to the test. Our mini-tester did some serious outdoor adventuring, and we conducted some real-life, careful testing to find out which product really deserved to come out on top.

Each of the baby carriers was put through its paces for a whole week, and tested on the following criteria – safety and stability, ease of assembly, day-to-day usefulness, cleanliness, aesthetics and value for money.

The results are in and the Stokke MyCarrier was our overall winner thanks to the huge levels of support it offered. Head over to our full list of Mumsnet's Best Baby Carriers to find out what we had to say about the other carriers we tested, whether you're on a budget or looking to splash out.

As a babywearing educator, I would have to say that you can't choose a carrier based on what a website found was the 'best'. I have written a blog on the topic as I regularly answer queries on this exact topic.

Please find your local sling library and go along to learn about safe and comfortable babywearing as you will find your babywearing journey to be so much more fulfilling if you work with someone who understands the options and can help you to choose what is right for you and your baby.

Mn fail here I'm not convinced at all.

There's something here about the brands of sling everyone raves about not being available from high street retailers so they become invisible until you happen upon them.

Popular slings down here are the woven wraps which look utterly gorgeous and unique. Ergos, Manduca, beko, Tula and rise and rebellion amazing designs.

The website slingsandthings.co.uk/ sells pretty much all of them if you are looking

Stretchy then gauze calin blu then ergo here. I loved the ergo.

Seems a bit off that a carrier noones recommending on mn "won" . Presumabl y some behind the scenes deal whereby stokke gets to put "chosen by mumsnet" on its slings and people think thats what mumsnetters like....

Difficult as all about the fit!! Slings that suit very tall won’t always fit the petite?

Plus one persons easy is another’s nightmare. I’m all thumbs and couldn’t get on with self tie wraps because I couldn’t confidently get them on.

Love my ergo but sling meets are the way forward.

The whole premis of the "competition" is wrong. Personally I don't think there can be one best carrier for all people. As PPs have mentioned it is very individual and what works for one person won't work for another plus different slings work for different times.

I loved a stretchy for the newborn days, a ringsling for quick ups and breastfeeding, a woven for walks and when she will be in there a while, and now am looking to get a buckle for when out and about in town and in and out of the car but you can bet I will be going to my sling library and not buying off the back of this "recommendation".

Very odd that this carrier has won (for the second year running I think) - I manage a baby shop and run a sling library, and by far our most popular slings/carriers are the ones mentioned here: Beco Gemini, Caboo, Ergobaby (various models), Tula, stretchy & woven wraps, ring slings....but the only feedback we've had from parents on the Stokke carrier (we don't stock it) is that it is too complicated and hurts their shoulders! Would be interesting to know which were the other carriers tested....

Netcurtainrummager · 06/03/2018 21:21

No way this carrier would get my vote. After attending sling meets to find out what suited me best I have a Tula for school runs and a ring sling for quick cuddles. Slings are a very personal thing, but I feel that those which perform the best are not necessarily those that have the most success in reaching the mainstream! A sling library is an excellent way to find the right sling for you, without spending much to do so and potentially preventing an expensive mistake !

I really love both my Tula and my Lillébaby, I also really got on with a connecta!
