for breakfast I had porridge made with water with an apple cut up and mixed in and some sliced strawberries, tbh I couldn’t stomach the porridge with water so I’d say I ate half if that for lunch I had half a can of bakes beans witu 2 eggs, for dinner I had spaghetti bolognese, I made the sauce with tinned tomato’s, tomato purée, 2 whole red and yellow bell peppers 1 onion and some garlic cloves as well as garlic granules and garlic salt and mixed herbs, and lean beef mince, once again I didn’t really like it as I didn’t let the sauce cooked for long enough as I was so hungry and I could taste the raw garlic so I ate about half of that I didn’t have any salad on the side as I don’t like it, I ate 3 oranges afterwards instead, I got hungry again just now (this is the part that makes me wonder if I ate too much) I dished up a small amount of pasta With a teaspoon of light mayo mixed it up had a few mouthfuls and put the rest in the bin didn’t finish it feeling kind of guilty for it

Try porridge with unsweetened almond milk in, there’s only 13 calories in 100mls and it’s really nice.

Sleep10 · 02/08/2024 21:44

You haven't eaten too much at all.
You can make porridge with your milk allowance or syn it if you use that for your hot drinks.
Be kind to yourself, enjoy your meals and eat them or you'll be hungry then that's when you start grazing and not realising how much you're eating - talking from experience.
Tomorrow's a new day :)

HangingOnJustAbout · 02/08/2024 21:49

That's not too much but it sounds disappointing and you won't be able to keep this up for long.

Plan well for tomorrow, eat things you know you like, maybe reducing portion size if needed.

Lollibert · 02/08/2024 22:28

@Sleep10 i wanted to save my healthy extra for the milk to have some cheese on my dinner tonight but I forgot the cheese lol

It’s all on plan, just a couple of syns for the light mayo. You need more veg though. I grate a large carrot and courgette into my spag bol, and throw in loads of mushrooms. It really bulks it out and you’ll get a few meals out of it. I personally ignore Slimming World’s idea that pasta, rice and potatoes are ‘free’, and try to keep it to very small portions, and eat more veg.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2024 22:40

The idea of syns and free foods is just so bloody unhealthy. Nutrients. Portion sizes. A varied diet.

Thereisnoname · 02/08/2024 23:01

I'd say, from experience, you need to make your meals more interesting so you enjoy them and feel more satisfied with what your eating so your not thinking about food too much in the day.
Use syns to add to the meals if you need too and plan wisely.
Learn good low syn/free foods. For example try Dorset cereals vanilla flavoured porridge, its HEB and lovely flavour, tastes more indulgent than plain porridge or try a flavoured tinned tuna for a few syns on a salad or with couscous rather than plain tuna as it pimps up the whole meal by adding flavour.

It really isn't. Free foods are nutrient dense and so not counted. Syns are not nutrient dense and so counted.

The online hatred for an eating plan that's worked for about 40 years is peddled by shouty, sweary newbies trying to jump on the diet bandwagon.

Cobblersorchard · 02/08/2024 23:33

This is no way to live, it’s really toxic.

Diets make people fat.

Moderated long term healthy eating is the way forward. Not this bullshit.

Wolfiefan · 03/08/2024 04:32

Rubbish. There was an outcry when Muller lite were switched away from being syn free. They were never ever nutrient dense.

You know you get two healthy A's don't you? So you can have milk and cheese!

Rubbish. There was an outcry when Muller lite were switched away from being syn free. They were never ever nutrient dense.

Which is why they were taken off free food 🙄

Slimming world works for a huge number of people if they follow the guidelines. It doesn't suit everyone but it is a hell of a lot better than a lot of peoples diets were before and set good healthy habits up. It's a lifestyle change not a diet. It's not perfect but it is backed by research and evidence.

Lollibert · 03/08/2024 09:45

@Thereisnoname im new to all this do hopefully the further I go a long the more interesting I can make my meals I am still waiting for my referral from the GP to get onto slimming world so I am currently going it alone I plan to look on market place today for some slimming world recipe books, I’m not really much of a veg eater tbh except for root veg and cabbage etc so I’ve been eating fruit as speed foods instead and also looking online for ideas I made over night oats for the first time today with fat free natural yoghurt haven’t tasted it yet but if it taste good I will be so happy because I can have a tasty breakfast every morning lol I’ve put blueberrys and strawberries in it too xx

A better porridge is to use fat free Greek yoghurt, porridge oats for overnight oats topped with a load of frozen summer berries. Do it just before you go to bed and I put it in the fridge. In the morning it will be delicious and filling. All it uses is a healthy B for the porridge.

suki1964 · 07/08/2024 23:21

Not all fruits are speed so be aware of that

If money is tight as it is for so many of us ( me included ) I buy value porridge oats, and whilst I do make my own yoghurt , get the cheap fat free greek yoghurt from Lidl ( its good ) and buy frozen berries. The only thing you have to weigh is the porridge. You can use 40gr dried as your HEB - so free -or if you are using your HEB as something else then 25grs is 4.5 syns. You can pile on as much yoghurt and berries as you need to fill you as they are free foods

What I tend to do if I want to use my HEB as bread for lunch, is split the HEB - 20gr of oats and one slice of wholemeal bread and instead of having a sandwich, I will use that slice as the basis of an open sandwich and pile it high with speed and lean proteins

I too have been a veg dodger all my life but SW pushes you into consuming more and I have come to actually like some - who knew asparagus was lovely? :) So well done on getting the peppers into the bolognese. Pickles are free foods as well, so I take advantage of that and use stuff like pickled red onions ( to die for ) pickled cabbage instead of coleslaw to add moisture, gherkins and dare I say - pickled cauliflower?

Another wee cheat for those early days of wondering what can I eat, make egg wraps. Whisk a couple of eggs, season, add herbs if you like, and make egg pancakes , and use them as wraps. Eggs are free, fill them with ham and tomatoes and onions , roll them up and fill your boots - its all free. Fill them as burritos - beans and rice and left over bolognese - still free

My early days was all about recreating what I always used to eat but now I do tend to eat differently in as far as nowadays my meals contain a lot of veg, a lot less bread, very small portions of rice and pasta - well small compared to what I could scoff but probably normal portion sized. Barely any processed food. Ive been target now for 8 months, and I dont miss out on anything ( other then bread ) i even manage to get cake a few times a week ( I work in a restaurant - loads of cake ) , I eat curries, chips, chinese, ( home made so I can control the fat and sugar content ) I still like a drink, I just keep the cider and red wine for rare occasions and stick to a spirit and slim for the every day

Moderated long term healthy eating is the way forward.

Which is exactly what SlimmingWorld, when done properly is.

StMarieforme · 07/09/2024 11:52

No need to be hungry on SW. it's why I prefer it because I cannot stand feeling hungry- leads to all kinds of overeating!
I try to eat in the following order, from most to least.
Protein, Veg, Fruit, Carbs, Syns.

I'll snack on things like sugar snap peas. 🫛 My meals are based on protein with veg and some carbs (ie baked potato, wholemeal pasta etc). Dessert either fruit or fat free Greek yogurt with berries. 😊😊

Speed free foods can be fruit or veg…. But, the idea is that you’re swapping out at least a third of your portion for them, so your portion size is the same but the calories are lower.

So eating your dinner and then having oranges is fine if you’re still hungry after your dinner, but it’s not going to boost your losses the same way as swapping at least a third of your dinner for the veg.

Sleep10 · 24/06/2025 21:28

That's not much at all. You have to pay enough.
Don't make your food become boring and tasteless as it will become a chore to eat it and you'll start snacking.
For example
Use some of your healthy a for milk (you get 2 health as) for the porridge
You could have your healthy b for toast to go with your lunch.
Your dinner sounded nice though I get you needed to cook it more.
You still have syns to have for snacks and your other healthy a to use.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 24/06/2025 21:45

Are you hungry? Because I would say that your intake today can’t be much more than 1000 calories.

This. Opened thread not realising it was slimming world related initially.

This is not enough food OP. Eat more protein to fill you up.
