Looking to lose 3 stone

Marshmallow87 · 23/03/2024 12:31

Can anyone share success stories? I’m 13 stone 10 and joined this week. Hoping to get down to about 10.5/11 stone. I’ve tried doing it on my own and just struggling so joined a group. Feeling a wee bit overwhelmed with all the rules. I love milky coffees so having to change my mindset about that and how exactly to fill up with my “free” food!

I’m with you! Same weight and goal. Weight has piled in gradually over the past 5 or so years. Am so fed up. Started to focus on healthy eating last week and focusing on taking walks. Would love to shift the first stone by the summer

Brilliant. Yeh it’s been slow to creep on for me too and now I barely recognise myself. Did you join SW? I’m already thinking it will help motivate me x

Well done for finding the motivation to make the changes you want

SW really is easy. Its just a convoluted way of saying ditch the ready meals and fast food and make everything from scratch. Do that and those really are the biggest changes you need to make

Speed is just a nice term for fruit and veg

Free food is most everything you would use when cooking from scratch, other then flour, fats and oils, so you learn how to make your recipe syn free so you can have your milky coffees over and above the milk allowance

My syns are alcohol and so that I have enough syns for that, I eat free food all day plus the HEA's and B and Im never hungry and I eat well . A lass in group, she uses all her syns for sweets ( terrible sweet tooth ) , it doesn't matter. As long as you dont exceed you syn allowance and make 1/3 to 1/2 the plate fruit and veg, the weight will come off. Its learning to make the changes you can live with forever cos the minute you stop, the weight will go back on , hence its not a diet but a lifestyle change for life

The recipes on the site are really quite tasty believe it or not. Making use of the food stuffs you already have cos other then the fruit and veg, everything else has stayed near on the same for me

I loosely follow, I do the fruit and veg and I limit white bread ( makes me feel quite ill now if I eat it ) I also am mindful on the amount of cheese I consume and try to keep within the syn allowance and Ive lost just over 2 stone since May

oh wow!! 11 pounds well done you. Any tips? How have you managed?

I’ve lost 7 pounds since new year but it was a mixture of failed fast 800 (3 weeks before I got really ill and illness! Oh and giving up wine 😅

Thanks @Marshmallow87
I've drank gallons of water , kept the syns down below 10 and saved them for gravy , Yorkshire pudding etc

Filled up on the free , especially the speed
Have really enjoyed the feeling of not being bloated , uncomfortable and spent a bit more time than usual on myself

Hair and face masks , nice manicure , body scrub , moisturiser etc , daily spritz of my fav perfume that I save for things that never happen 😂

No doubt the losses will slow down now but even 1lb a week will get me to a better place than if I'd not rejoined a month ago

I'm enjoying it and not struggling at all yet

I joined in January and have lost 1 stone 10.5 pounds in 13 weeks. I have a lot to loose my starting weight was 21 stone 10.5 pounds and so I am now 20 stone and I am 5'2. I have struggled with my weight all my life - I am 49. Something seems to have clicked this time and the group I go to are great. My main aim this time after joining many times before is to keep going. I have a target of 15 stone in my head which I know is still overweight but once I get there I will reevaluate. I cant remember what it felt like to be less than that. The thing I am struggling with is the emotional side. I am in tears writing this. How did I let myself do this to my body.

@nearlyemptynes ((((((((HUGS)))))))

I know its easy to say the words, dont be so hard on yourself and hard to actually put into action

I find I have to keep looking at the positives and look forwards rather then back

You can not change the past.

But you can inpact on the future and you are doing that

Such a massive loss, so very very very well done , be proud of what you have achieved so far.

I honestly belive we all have those feelings , bet theres more then one person in your group that has been camera phobic for years. Its those feelings that keep us back from changing so we keep in the cycle for so long, but then some of us are fortunate that we finally find the strength to push past and go seek the help we need. Admitting we need help is actually a huge positive in itself so be proud of that

I think you are quite right in setting small targets, its too easy to give up if the goal is too huge. You will soon get your 10% target and that straight away makes you healtheir, a massive acheivement. Belive me, as the clothes get looser and people around you start to notice it will spur you on. Also as you get lighter and breathing and moving becomes easier, getting moving no longer seems to be out of reach and for me, walking has saved my sanity. I could barely walk the length of myself this time last year, now I walk at least 3 miles a day for exercise, and clock up at least 8 miles a day all in, and as for flights of stairs - off the scale some days :)

You may not have been kind to yourself in the past, but you are now.

@nearlyemptynes I hear you !

We are so used to putting ourselves down we don't celebrate our achievements

You've found a group you like , have made a great start and are motivated to keep going

Let's do this 💐

Can I hop on this thread? I joined yesterday referred by my gp as I am pre diabetic
I'm having surgery at the end of may and it would really help recovery if I was lighter by then

I'm actually feeling quite positive about the programme and have been really encouraged by some of the weight losses on here

I'm 12st 8 and aiming for 10st 7 ..

I lost just under 5 stone, nearly a third of my body weight, and have kept it off.
I found planning ahead really helped so I would work out all my meals for the following week and I made sure I had SW-friendly snacks on hand.

I never had huge losses, just a steady one pound a week and some weeks the scales didn't budge at all, but I plodded on. I think in the past I'd half-heartedly tried diets that were too restrictive and if I hadn't lost any weight in a particular week I'd think screw this and then fall off the wagon.

With SW I honestly never felt like it was too restrictive, and if I did have a few days off plan, like over Christmas, I soon got back in the mindset.
I never set a defined target, I just wanted to be a healthy BMI, and I didn't want to be one of those people who think well I'm at target now so I can stop the plan! I know if I go back to eating how I did before then I will end up the weight I was before.

I follow some SW dieters on instagram and I am genuinely amazed at what some people can eat and still lose weight.

My online membership is just about to lapse after 9 months and I hit target this week so don't want to pay again. I've lost 25lbs In that period, including holidays, weekends away, Christmas etc. My BMI is now 21.2 and I've dropped from a tight size 12 to an 8-10. Apart from walking the dog, I hardly exercised. So, that's my SW success story, hope it helps!

You know you can use dairylea lights as butter and they are free as a HEA?

I dont drink much milk. Maybe one coffee made at home a day, so I split a HEA into milk and two or three Dairyleas ( lidl in my case )

Thanks @wizzler

Got 1.5lbs today so still feeling positive
I like the how numbers spread out at quite motivating- I'll try to explain 😂

With 1lb off I'll be 13 .7 which gets me to the half way point of the 13's
Then with 4 off I'll get my Club 10 and my 1.5 stone award
Then only 3.5 off to get to the 12's
And so on 🤭

Wish I could bottle this motivation as I know it doesn't always feel this easy

I managed to lose 2.5 stone by taking it fairly slowly and trying not to fall into binge starve mode. If I cut right down on bread some days had no bread that meant I would lose a bit more weight. But everyone is different. Worse thing is losing heart and saying I can't do this. You can. I'm the world's worse dieter. **

@effoffwind Well done, and use the numbers how works best for you. Small goals and achievable goals

Staying motivated can be difficult, this is why group is there , everyone of us is there to support and motivate you and ourselves

I have to admit here, Ive had a bit of a struggle this past month, I only had 3lb to go and started to gain, for two weeks I had a gain, it really did piss me off and again fed into the "stuff it, Iv done enough ". But if that feeling was going to take hold, then it would have just been a diet, and I would be back where i was in 6 months. So even though I knew I gained I went and faced the scales, and fineally something clicked with me at lasts week group and this week I went in with a 1lb off - which for me was great seeing as I had a houseful over Easter and all the cakes and biscuits, crisps and nuts and chocolates that all that entails

It was nothing the consultant could say to me, it was seeing those that were really struggling still facing the scales and it made me realise I didnt want the weight back on and I just have to keep attending. It also dawned on me whilst there where I was going wrong these past few weeks. Cos believe me, you think you have it sussed, then you may wee changes which others are using, but they dont work for me. For me it was buying some low cal/high fibre bars - 2 = HEB, all great and good but they set my sugar cravings off and those pasta in sauces which I thought would be easy for a quick hot lunch these cold days ( 1/2 syn ) same thing, they set me craving . This week Im back to everything cooked from scratch and im back happy and not craving and eating sensibly

@suki1964 Could have wrote that myself , agree with everything you said

It's so easy to think "oh stuff it , I'm having a day off " but that leads to a downward spiral of doom for me

Well done on getting through the holiday period and reflecting on what you need to do , let's all keep going , we can do this 1lb at a time

I’ve lost 4 stone in 12 months on SW. I’ve still got another stone to go.

My top tips are have snacks ready to grab from the fridge when you have no time to make anything but you need to eaT. Mini baby bel (light), fruit, ham, boiled eggs, home made scotch eggs, overnight oats, fat and sugar free yoghurt, bread sticks etc. And use your syns
