Shocked at weigh in, been in complete denial

So I had been saying Jan was going to be a fresh start to the diet. And I knew I had a lot to lose. I thought I was about 15 / 16 stone.

Anyway kids go back to school today so today is my day 1. Weighed myself and I am actually 17st 5

I was so upset I could cry, as I know deep down I knew things were bad but to see 17st on the scales was scary.

We have booked a family holiday abroad with our best friends and their children and my best friend is a lovely size 10/12 so I always had a goal to lose weight for mid August.

In 2016 I did manage to lose 5st so I know I can do it and I am already a member of a gym and do actually go about 1 or 2 a week, but the last two years with Covid have been really stressful and I realised I have not been coping at all.

For the first time ever I had been prescribed anti depressants to help me cope with my stress but I didn't actually believe I needed them either so have not been taking them either (which is totally stupid). My relationship with my husband has not been great lately, had lots of stress at work in NHS due to impact of Covid, and we have been renovating a house and also juggle 3 kids.

I always try and be a positive person but also recognise i have been in denial.

So I have meal planned for the week. Booked my two exercise classes for the week. Also gone through my phone and found the photos of me in 2016 and will order them to be printed out so I can stick in my room and dressing table as a motivator to my target.

Does anyone with a lot to lose want to be a buddy. I will be doing SW on line as can't make any classes near me due to work.

See I do that we well, a bed of onions never goes wrong

Hungry now 😂

Azpil · 11/01/2022 12:38

I have already failed as I am just meeting my friend for Wagamama. Socialising makes this so hard!

However, I haven’t eaten yet today and I’ve done a HIIT class. So I’m going to enjoy my Yaki soba (which I think is 14 syns?) and make sure I eat something free and healthy tonight instead

1winterblues · 11/01/2022 21:12

How is everyone? Really stressed at work but managed to stay on plan.

I started SW today. Im in Asia so there are no classes here so doing it online. I weighed in at an appalling 14 stone 10 pounds which is 2 stone 10 pounds MORE than I weighed the day before I gave birth to my son! In the past I've tried and failed at very restrictive diets so am hoping something that is more relaxed will prove easier to stick to. I've also readjusted my expectations into the realms of achievable and rather than doing mental gymnastics around unrealistic losses ("If I Iose 5 pounds a week I can weigh x by Easter") and instead giving myself a year to lose all this blubber. Was slightly horrifying to see a half bottle of wine is 18 syns. I dread to think how many I have been guzzling so that will need to be a once or twice a week treat...

coldfeetmama · 12/01/2022 06:47

First week weigh in last night - 7 lbs off

Don't want to get too excited as it's not 7lbs of fat but I'm still very happy
Fingers crossed for another good week

Same for all of you , let's keep going

1winterblues · 12/01/2022 10:20

@coldfeetmama well done 7lbs is fantastic

Thank you @1winterblues I do realise it's week 1 so more water than fat but just helps keep going for another week
Lol

1winterblues · 15/01/2022 10:02

How had everyone's week been ?

I was invited to my brothers house for dinner tonight but offered to cook at mine instead so I can make a SW meal without them knowing. But will add bread and pudding for then

I didn't weigh first week. Weighed last Monday , tried the scales this morning so 5 days , 2lb .

VaulterTech · 15/01/2022 15:23

Hello, could I join please? Another who’s been in complete denial, I’m actually embarrassed I’ve been out and about liking like this.

Anyway! Started on mon, trying to eat healthily and stop the mindless grazing / snacking. 3lbs off last week 🤞

DailyFailstinks · 15/01/2022 16:01

Can I join you please? I also have around 6 stone to lose on slimming world and need all the support I can get! I started in September last year and lost just over a stone. However I didn’t stick with it through December and have put half of it back on!

coldfeetmama · 16/01/2022 07:05

The more the merrier!
How does everyone feel about the weekend ? I'm glad to have had nothing to do and no one to see this weekend , so no temptation lol

VaulterTech · 16/01/2022 23:18

I have ‘enjoyed’ my weekend shall we say! I’m ok with that though, it’s the week days I need to sort. 6.30am gym class tomorrow 😳

sensibleheartxo · 17/01/2022 08:09

Loving the support on this thread, can I join in too please? I first joined Slimming World 4 years ago and lost over 2.5 stone, I was living alone then and was able to make myself a priority. Things have changed now and I feel like I’ve really lost sight of who I am. I don’t really take care of myself at all these days. I always look so scruffy and feel so embarrassed leaving the house.

I rejoined at the end of December weighing 19 stone 9lbs, but have continued to eat like a pig so here I am 2 weeks in weighing 1.5lb more than when I joined. Luckily I bought a countdown when I joined otherwise I just wouldn’t go back at all.

I can’t continue to live my life like this. I just need to remind myself that I have the power to control my own life and I can achieve whatever I want.

Today is the day I start to change my life. I’m determined to do better for myself and make myself proud. Hope everyone has a great day :)

Kookookachuu · 17/01/2022 09:09

I’ve been successful on slimming world before and kept at target for a year but I’ve gained 1 stone 1 lb over the passed few months (out of pure greed) so I am back on it! Week 1 weigh in today and I’ve lost 5.5lbs which I’m very happy with. Good luck everyone 🍀

RuthTopp · 17/01/2022 10:55

Loads of weight to lose . 3 lb off this week.

Happyface120 · 17/01/2022 11:39

Only 0.5lb off this week, so 4lb in 2 weeks. I ate and drank what I fancied over the weekend, but back on it now.

thevassal · 17/01/2022 11:54

Hello! I would love to join as I need a bit of accountability. I was the same as you OP - planned to lose weight anyway but from an assumed start point of about 11.12 - got on the scales and was 12.7. I'm short too so it's well into obese territory.

I had a bit of a motivation drop because I ate really well for a few days at the start of Jan, under my calories on fitness pal, went to bed so hungry and went to the gym every day only to find I'd put on another pound! So I gave up and had pizza and chocolate Sad

Now I need to get back on it! I have 4 weddings this year, including 1 im a bridesmaid at. The other bridesmaids are already taller, younger and better looking than me so at least I can try to shift a few pounds!

ihavespoken · 18/01/2022 08:57

@LCHF2018 can you get UK podcasts? If so there's a Slimming World podcast which seems quite good! I have just started listening to them from the start (think there are about 160 episodes) and I am finding it helps in between meetings!

I think it started off unofficial (at least the episodes I've heard are very careful to say they aren't affiliated with SW) but they must now have been brought into the fold as you can get them on the SW app.. also available on Spotify though if you don't have the app.

RuthTopp · 19/01/2022 15:25

Where is everyone ? From ops first posts , I don't think is solely a sw post , just encouraging everyone to stay on track with whichever diet they are doing . So how is it all going for everyone ? Especially you op ?

coldfeetmama · 19/01/2022 17:03

Not OP but I am still here too
Second weigh in 2.5 lbs off , very happy
9.5 lbs in 2 weeks , next week I will down to the 13 stone range so very happy , was so shocked to see the 14 🙄, need to keep going

RuthTopp · 19/01/2022 17:19

@coldfeetmama
Wow that's an amazing lost, you must be thrilled.

coldfeetmama · 19/01/2022 17:23

Thank you , yes I am happy
Been trying to get into right mindset for a long time - failed every time
How are you doing ?

RuthTopp · 19/01/2022 17:32

What type of diet are you following ?
Because of knowing my weight has completely got out of hand these last 18 months , I was too scared to face the reality on week 1 . I gave myself a talk and weighed week 2 , and lost 3lb. My next weigh in is on Monday.

coldfeetmama · 19/01/2022 17:36

I'm doing Slimming World , properly for a change 🤣 keeping to 5-10 syns a day for now and eating loads
