Has anyone actually lost and kept it off with sw?

I have a number of friends who have done sw and have done for years, seemingly losing the same 5 lbs over and over. Does anyone actually find it successful?

Not one person I know off unfortunately

FiveNightsAtMummys · 17/11/2019 09:52

I've been at slimming world for 1 year, lost 6st and only ever gained 1lb max. I've been on holidays, had christmas, birthdays etc. So far so good. Not sure what the future holds though.

Groovee · 17/11/2019 16:05

Joined in January 2017 and got to target in March 2018. Still at target. It's not easy but I get there. Know quite a few people at target in real life and at my group.

Has anyone actually lost and kept it off with sw?
IHaveNayIdea · 18/11/2019 11:50

I've been a member for 4months and lost just over a stone

MyGoodTimes · 18/11/2019 11:52

Anyone I know who is in SW has lost weight but had to continue to work at it to maintain the loss.

Booksandwine80 · 18/11/2019 11:55

Hardly anyone ever will as it’s not a sustainable lifestyle choice.

FenellaVelour · 18/11/2019 12:03

I found it unsustainable.
Lost four stone, regained the lot.

WatchingFromTheWings · 18/11/2019 12:05

I lost 3.5 stone. Left SW 2 years ago, currently 1 stone heavier but it's mostly muscle as I took up weight lifting. I'm wearing the same clothes as I was then.

ironickname · 18/11/2019 12:06

My mil lost a stone and a half a couple of years and has kept it off by continuing with SW principles. She looks great, eats healthily and exercises.

FaithInfinity · 18/11/2019 12:08

95% of dieters regain it all back and more within 5 years. I went for 2 years and those who had got to target were always struggling to get back into target. I gave up. I’m heavier now than ever.

I’m doing Rebelfit now, no quick fix amazing weight loss but it’s helping me change my relationship with my body and food.

chesterfuckingdraws · 18/11/2019 12:20

I lost 4.5st with slimming world. Stopped around 2 years ago and I put on 7lb. So I've managed to keep 4st off and can't see that changing.

Of course the weight will go back on if you revert back to eating as you did before slimming world or any weight loss plan/calorie counting etc.

I am not as strict and can't really say I follow slimming world now, however, I do watch my portion size, try not to eat lots of snacks and keep up with exercise.

As cringe as it might sound losing weight is a change in lifestyle and to keep the weight off you need to accept that.

Target is a 6lb 'bubble', 3lb under and over target weight.

I lost nearly 3 stone 2 years ago, still within target bubble most of the time. I'm conscious of my weight tho, and if I have a 'bad' week weight wise, I focus more the following week and so on.

People put weight on because they eat more calories than they burn. That's not the fault of SW (other diet/lifestyle choices are available).

If you follow the plan, you lose weight. If you stop following the plan, and eat more calories than you burn, then you may put on weight.

Have a look at 'the fitness chef' on fb, he's anti-slimming clubs, but I find his illustrations quite helpful, even with a SW mindset.

FaithInfinity · 18/11/2019 12:48

Target allows for 3lb above or under target. To be a diamond member you must remain in that 6lb target zone for a year. I remember feeling quite shocked that when I hit target there was very little information on maintaining it. Of course the cynic in me says you don’t give them money while you’re at target. Although apparently the majority of the money made at slimming groups like SW and WW is actually made on the merchandise they sell.

Moominfan · 18/11/2019 12:49

I think sw is such a strange place. I went to a few meetings there were people that have been going for years! Even the consultant had a good few stone to go.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/11/2019 12:52

Not me. I have 3 friends who lost between 2 and 4 stone each and they’re all heavier now than when they started.

Charrin10 · 18/11/2019 13:01

I've been twice. Lost 4-5 stone each time and then put it back on ( albeit some of it was baby weight but then I just didn't monitor what I was eating after )

The funny thing was a year or so after I left SW I saw my old consultant (who was slim) and she had clearly put on a lot of weight.

I don't think it's sustainable but then if don't understand and educate yourself properly about food ( ie non of this 'free food' & 'syns') then it never will be

GrumpySausage · 18/11/2019 13:28

My mum lost 6 stone 6 years ago with slimming world and has kept it off. She eats the slimming world way but also enjoys herself and doesn't restrict herself if she fancies something. She isn't militant at all.

Also a woman in my class lost 14 stone and has kept that off for 12 years. She is very strict with herself though even now and says she can't ever relax her eating habits.

florriepeck · 18/11/2019 16:49

I've been a member of SW for 17 years, and have kept in target after losing three stone.
The eating plan is just normal food.
Lots of target member regulars in my group.

InfiniteSheldon · 21/11/2019 15:10

I lost 2 and half stone and have kept it off for 15 years SW is a healthy varied natural way of eating its not hard to keep going but I need the regular weighing and being accountability of the group. Anyone who says it's rubbish/tripe /unsustainable is talking out their arse. It's like anything you'll only keep the weight off if you stick to healthy eating go back to fatty, sugary lazy bingeing and you'll get fat again.

Wynona · 23/11/2019 13:54

Yes I would recommend it. It has been life changing. I do dip into Pinch of Nom for ideas as well. I like the fact that nothing is banned.

ivykaty44 · 14/12/2019 16:55

I’m managing to maintain and have been for 4 months now after losing 20ilb, if the weight started to creep over then I’ve promised myself I’ll go back if I put on more than 5ilb

I’d rather go back at that stage and lose the 5ilb again than ignore and get back to where I was

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 14/12/2019 16:59

As cringe as it might sound losing weight is a change in lifestyle and to keep the weight off you need to accept that.

Agree with this, I lost 2 stone at sw after having dd. Haven't been in over a year and haven't put it back on, BUT I do make sure I exercise & still pretty much follow the slimming world plan, although not as strictly.

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2019 17:07

The issue, like most diets is uou need to be able to maintain and it's pretty much a fat free, sugar free taste free world. I have one friend who lost three stone, took her about nine months, stopped and two months later has regained a stone. Another friend, is maintaining, but he keeps going to group when he puts back on weight, generally half a stone, somthen he goes back on it and looses it, so manages that half stone with it.

dementedma · 14/12/2019 17:11

Check out rebel fit on FB to get his thoughts on SW.
