Just joined last night - I have a loooooong way to go (just shy of 9st to lose), and a tall, active slim, bastard! DH who likes a big pile of 'man food' of an evening and is a chef so not the easiest to please.

Also short on time at the moment with increased responsibility at work and elderly parents to keep and eye so would love some help finding recipes without trawling for hours Smile.

Some nice pork recipes would be great as DD loves pork and it makes a change from chicken (I'll eat fish but she doesn't), but basically anything that doesn't require loads of expensive ingredients and a huge amount of time would be fab, particularly stuff I can bulk out for DH.

This week I'm doing 3 recipes from the latest magazine - chicken tikka masala, thai curry (with chicken rather than prawns) and a version of the singapore noodle but will use left over beef from Sunday roast instead of pork.

Was wondering is it's possible ot make some kind of carbonara type dish with quark and low fat cheddar?

Anyway TIA for any suggestions!

Yes you can make carbonara with quark or low fat fromage frais, eggs, garlic, lean bacon or ham and add loads of extra veg. HeA amount or synned portion of cheese - hard cheese or soft cheese would work. Or SW cauliflower white sauce, to get in a portion of speed veg!
I've been cooking a whole gammon and having some hot for a dinner then leftovers cold for lunches or in pea and ham soup.
Or I use Chinese five spice powder to flavour pork for Chinese style dishes .

Stir fry beef strips in balsamic vinegar and soy sauce with loads of veg and plain boiled rice. Delicious and free

I also prefer home made slimming world chips to my former oven chips brand.

Nacho feast
Burger in a bowl
Carbonara
Jacket potato cheese and beans

Trying the SW chicken and spinach lasagne this week.

Thanks for the ideas.

We had jackets with cheese and beans last night and I made SW chicken tikka masala tonight which was lovely.

Will definitely get some five spice as I used to use it a lot but somehow haven't for ages.

I like the sound of nacho feast - I love tex mex food, was chuffed to bits when I realised that chilli wasn't off the menu!

You also need calzone's recipe for cauliflower white sauce. I'd use that for a carbonara type dish instead of quark as it ups the veggie content.

I find that just googling 'slimming world ' brings up most things that have been tweaked to work on plan.

Ohh and smoked fish florentine from the SW budget recipe book.

I keep seeing stuff about cauliflower - someone at group this week mentioned cauliflower pizza?! Clearly I need to do some more research.

Took a look at the Hairy Dieters Korma recipe as 'proper' korma is DD's favourite. Could do it with syns for the cream or might try it with fromage frais.

DD is doing so well, bless her. As I hadn't shopped until yesterday afternoon, she's pretty much just had hummus, cheese cubes and a massive pile of crudites in her packed lunch for the last couple of days (she's a very reluctant fruit eater).

You've never seen someone so excited about a ham sandwich as she was this morning Grin.

Cauliflower Sauce

Boil cauliflower in veg stock, til soft. Drain it but keep the stock. Blitz with a handblender til smooth adding the stock as you go. You end up with a jug of sauce which you can add cheese to.

It's amazing for lasagne, macaroni cheese, ocean pie etc

Might try that for DD, she like love macaroni cheese - thanks!

At our groups a woman mentioned butternut squash pizzas.

Basically take a slice of it, boil it for a few minutes then put it a hot over for 5-7 each side then top with Tom purée (no added oil) cheese and whatever else you fancy.

I tried it and it was delicious. Easy to get a third speed food in.

Haven't done the macaroni cheese yet, but am making cauliflower pizza for DD tomorrow, and cauli 'rice' to go with my chilli con carne.

SW chips, eggs, beans and veggie sausages. Favourite SW dinner Grin

Yes she does Zippidy. Not a massive amount, but 10 - 14lb would be good, although its more about encouraging her to make sensible, healthy choices, particularly as she's starting secondary school in September and will be making those decisions independently.

She was bullied at school a couple of years ago (not weight related) and started comfort eating in secret. We've seen GP and tried to address it at home without a great deal of success so I invited her to come along with me if she wanted to and take part in the 11-15 programme.

She's really enjoying it so far - has printed off lots of recipes she wants to try and is eating more fruit which has been a bit of a battle for a good few years now.

Cauli pizza wasn't very popular, but we did Lemon & Herb pasta from the website last night and added some cold chicken and chopped bacon medallions plus extra veg to make it a bit more substantial for dinner and that went well.

Tonight we're doing the SW version of Chicken Korma which is her favourite meal ever!

Bless her! Didn't mean to be nosey but was wondering why she didn't havd a normal pizza.

I've just had the best sw chips I have ever made! They were browned at the edges and nice and crisp. Mmmmmmm! They'd go down a storm with her (and you!)

I think the main thing that works is filling the plate with 1/3 of fruit/vegetables. When I don't do that religiously, I don't lose much or anything!

That's OK, its a tricky subject. No one likes to think of pre teen girls having to 'go on a diet'.

The thing is, she's very tall and well built for her age (getting on for 5'2 and size 6.5-7 shoes) so its not too obvious if she dresses well, but it is obvious to her that she can't just pick and choose clothes and is already in ladies sizes. She's not too fazed by it and we're certainly not putting her under any pressure but would be good to nip the bad habits in the bud now rather than have to address them in a few years time which would no doubt be harder for everyone.

She's really embraced it and I'm incredibly proud of how much she's already taken on board. We are very close so I think to her it's as much an excuse to have a night out with mum once a week as anything!

Do you have a slow cooker? You could do a big joint of pork- shoulder is good- shred it and make things like stir frys, salads, campfire stew, pork chilli, bbq pulled pork on jacket potatoes etc. My absolute favourite SW recipe is the ragu- the smoked bacon makes it lovely and meaty and it's packed full of speed veg. I prefer one pot style dishes as the speed veg is already mixed in so any side veg is a bonus, but it's also fine to have with potatoes/rice/on its own.

Ps I just wanted to say that I think it's brilliant that you're doing it with your dd and teaching her about healthy eating. I remember going for my secondary school uniform and coming home with size 12 trousers at 11 and the weight just piled on from there as I had no knowledge of how to eat properly as my mum would just let me eat whatever I pleased (meaning I lived on cheese sandwiches, chocolate and crisps). It wasn't until I moved out for uni that I started learning new habits and I wished I'd had that guidance earlier.

Thanks annatha Smile

DD is in a size 14, which I hate to put out there as everyone will probably picture her as really huge and she's not because of her height and build, but there is a lot more tummy than there should be, bless her, and the bad habits Sad. I must admit the thought of uniform shopping was a factor in really addressing it - I don't want her to be upset or uncomfortable.

I'm sure she will also want to go to the canteen with all the other kids when she gets there and I want to be confident that I can trust her to make sensible choices most of the time.

It's really good for me too as I've struggled so hard to stick to it in the past, but now I can't let DD down as I'm trying to set an example for her.

I have made the diet cola chicken recipe which sounds revolting but is actually great! Also the pork and mustard recipe from the free food feasts book. The lamb curries (korai and biriyani with spinach) are also fantastic. My husband who is not slimming has requested I cook these again soon

Hi Ava.
Just to add some support so your SW thread. I joined yesterday and my DD (12) is wanting to follow along with me (not at class as in the morning) - mostly for evenings meals and weekends. She's a size 12 and tall (5'5") - but is very active and doesn't look overweight (although just tipping into it).
I've planned all evening meals for the next month from the latest mag, the Fakeaways book and some I found online. I find this really helps with shopping each week and stops that 'Urgh can't be bothered to think about dinner so I'll eat something off plan'!
So far I made a tuna pasta bake last night and earlier in the week (experimenting) a lamb hotpot which was lovely.
I'd like some ideas for snacks - mid afternoon is the worst time for me.

Hi Mumelie - it's tough sometimes isn't it?

A typical day for us is either:

B- fruit & ff yoghurt

L - sandwich with pastrami, chicken or ham & salad
Quavers/Pops/Skips & fruit (4.5)

Or

B - Oatibix or Porridge

L - pasta salad, yoghurt or jelly, Quavers/Pops/Skips (4.5)

Dinners - the SW korma, tikka madala & Thai green curries have gone down well. We have roast with SW dry roast potatoes which are lovely (both DH and DDs godfather are chefs and like them too), Chicken breasts with Nandos seasoning & SW chips, chilli, pork steaks with a squeeze of lime juice and Cajun seasoning with sweet potato wedges.

DD doesn't like fish but I have the Hairy Bikers sticky chilli & ginger salmon with loads of stir fry veg or chilli & lemon tuna with broccoli spaghetti.

Our favourite treats/snacks are choc orange or rocky road HiFi lights, Jaffa cakes, and fun size bags of Maltesers. I make a dessert of sliced banana topped with peanut & caramel muller light and 5 crushed Maltesers which has 2.5 syns but really does feel like a treat.
