Low syn/syn free sweet treats...
TotallyFoxed · 26/04/2014 22:19
...that don't taste strongly of artificial sweetener? Can anyone share recipes or ideas for things to satisfy a sweet tooth - or snack craving - that don't require a substantial quantity of sweeteners. I seem to be really sensitive to the taste of them, not to mention concerns about how healthy they are. Thanks!
Midori1999 · 28/04/2014 00:19
I eat sponge fingers (the sort you put in trifles) instead of biscuits. They're 1 syn each.
Pineapple, oranges or grapes? Or any sweet fruit. In large amounts....
Hartleys ready made sugar free jelly. 1/2 syn each. They do contain sweetener, but I don't find it over powering.
Danio yoghurts. Between 1 and 3 syns each depending on flavour. I like the cherry for 1 1/2. They natural, fat free Greek yoghurt with a fruit layer. No sweeteners in them.
Chocolate buttons. Not hugely low syn, but you can have 16 for 4 syns and I can make them last for ages!
Mini marshmallows are 10 for 1 syn.
TotallyFoxed · 28/04/2014 02:44
Thanks for the reply Midori! I think I'm going to have to build in regular chocolate buttons as I'm not satisfied by fruity sweetness and I'm already sick of trying to pretend that cous cous is cake or pudding!
Midori1999 · 28/04/2014 10:23
Haha! I eat loads of sweet couscous. Have you tried the syn free rice pudding? Just cook pudding rice in water or any diet pop and once it's cooked mix in a mullerlight.
spaceal · 28/04/2014 12:19
Meringues? Not very filling but sweet and about 1 syn, depending on the size. I occasionally eat them on their own, or put them in a yogurt or on fruit. Helps to make it all a bit sweeter/crunchier/tastier.
TotallyFoxed · 28/04/2014 17:04
I'll try some meringues. I can't seem to get sweet cous cous tasting very nice - made some last night and stirred in muller light and some berries - am I doing it right? If so I'm not keen! I also did some rice pudding at the weekend in diet pop and it tasted too strongly of artificial sweetener. I think I'm just too sensitive to the taste . Either that or I'm making it wrong!
TotallyFoxed · 28/04/2014 17:05
Let's face it - I just want cake and chocolate!
But that's the problem!
StuntBunny · 28/04/2014 17:07
Watching thread with interest as I struggle to satisfy my sweet tooth. I manage by using my Healthy B on two Alpen Light bars every day as at least they are a bit like a biscuit or sweet.
TotallyFoxed · 29/04/2014 14:27
I was thinking about this and remembered that when doing SW years ago - pre-children - I made the 'Ferrero Rocher' a-like sweets with Ryvita and Nutella but stopped because I was making them bigger and bigger and eating too many. So have concluded that instead of trying to find cheats I'm just going to plan in a little chocolate treat every evening to look forward to and try to stay syn free the rest of the day as far as possible.
What are people's favourite low-ish syn chocolate treats? Apart from buttons of course! Which are the most satisfying?
napoleonsnose · 29/04/2014 19:47
When I was doing SW, I used to buy those multipacks of Maltesers which were 5.5 syns a bag and then suck them really slowly to get the maximum sweetness out of them. Think you get about 12 in a bag. Alternatively those tiny snack size Kinder chocolate bars are only 3.5 syns and are really sweet too. I know what you mean about fruit though, it just doesn't hit the spot like cake or chocolate at all.
Greenrememberedhills · 29/04/2014 20:21
Quark with options hot chocolate powder and sweetener too if you want.
2 syns.
TotallyFoxed · 29/04/2014 21:55
Well I was weighed tonight and had lost 4lbs! Chuffed!
So maybe I should have stayed away from the chocolate as I have been doing instead of stuffing my face with DS's smarties that were lying around
Mmmmm ripple though.....
Hmmkay · 30/04/2014 09:28
Well done on the loss! Sometimes I find it best just to steer clear completely, because once I start eating chocolate, I find it hard to stop, and one of anything is never enough
I might try the quark and options mentioned above though !
Iggity · 03/05/2014 10:45
Well done on the weight loss. I think factoring in a bit of chocolate every day helps. Don't keep it in your house and if possible masked yourself walk to a shop a good distance away to negate the calories.
Doristhecamel · 04/05/2014 20:51
curly wurlys are 6 syns and somehow their length gets away from the fun size issue.
I have never understood what is so fun anout a teeny bar if chocolate - hence why I am back at sw yet again.
ToeFluff · 04/05/2014 22:56
The mikado sticks are half a syn each (dangerously morish though) Rich tea fingers are 1syn each and curly wurlys are 6syns - I freeze mine and snap bits off during the day when I just need that little hit, and where it's frozen I can't scoff the lot!
I also got told about a choccy pudding which was simply an options whisked into a egg and microwaved in a mug for a min. But I haven't tested it..2 syns and if u make it let us know how it goes!
GoooRooo · 07/05/2014 10:06
A meringue nest is 3 syns I think. I love those with fat free fromage frais and berries (and sometimes honey)
Imnotaslimjim · 07/05/2014 18:20
If you want to graze, get the little tiny meringues, and suck them. You can have 10 for 1 syn. I'm like you though, I have to factor in the chocolate, nothing else will substitute. The options and quark isn't too bad, and I've made it with natural fat free yogurt too
Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 18:23
This won't be popular, but why not go cold turkey?
I give up all sweet things every Lent and find that I lose the craving for anything sweet after a few days. Research has shown that eating foods sweetened with artificial sweetener does nothing to satisfy a sweet tooth, but actually increases it.
megan300scott · 03/12/2016 14:39
How many syns would the Ferrero Rocher balls be @totallyfoxed ?
Victoriacranston79 · 09/03/2017 10:15
Hi there ladies someone was telling me about these chocolate things to make with Nutella and rivita.... You crush up the rivita 6 I think and 3 table spoons of Nutella put in microwave for 30 secs then stir.... Put in for further 30 secs then put mixture into paper cake cases makes about 12 freeze them and take 1 out at a time..... I've not tried them yet but she said if you close your eyes it's like Ferrero rochet.... Hope this helps x x 1 syn per one....
I also like curly wurly 6 syns put tgem in the freezer and when frozen smash tgem up into smaller bitesize pieces and eat them that way feels like you are getting a lot more and takes longer to eat
MetallicBeige · 09/03/2017 20:09
Tunnocks tea cakes - 5 syns.
Tunnocks caramel wafers (they are a good size too) - 7 syns.
I love Tunnocks.❤
