DS waking because he is cold - solution?

cleanandclothed · 19/12/2009 20:53

DS (15 months) sleeps with a bodysuit, sleeping bag, and a couple of layer of blankets. He is quite restless and sometimes tosses off the blankets, and the wakes because he is cold. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

I fhe has a grow bag he shouldn't be cold. Is there another reason why he is waking, bloody mindedness?????!

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 19/12/2009 20:55

my dcs always did this too. Nothing you can do really apart from tucking in blankets tighter but then he might wake more trying to kick them off and finding it hard.
In time he will learn the delights of being tucked up under a cover but until then IME there's not much that you can do if he's determined to kick off the covers during the night.

cookielove · 19/12/2009 20:56

thicker sleeping bag, tucking the blankets around him, all in one suit inside the sleeping bag??

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 19/12/2009 20:56

sorry, missed the grow bag thing. If he's still cold with all that on can you maybe make the room warmer?

beeny · 19/12/2009 20:57

My dd sleeps with vest bodysuit and 2.5 tog bag.We also leave free standing delonghi heater on in her room. She sleeps from 8.30 to 7.30

drinkyourmilk · 19/12/2009 20:57

Is the gro-bag an appropriate toggle? I think they go up to 2.5.

IlanaK · 19/12/2009 20:58

Why is he just in a bodysuit under the sleeping bag? My 16 month old is wearing a shortsleeved poppered vest, a velour thick all in one sleepsuit and then the sleeping bag. The flat we are in is ferezing at night, but he is toasty warm.

LauraIngallsWilder · 19/12/2009 20:58

Could you try a bodysuit, plus a fleece suit with sleeping bag on top?

monkeyfeathers · 19/12/2009 21:00

Maybe you'd be better adding more clothing and not bothering with the blankets.

DS2 is 4 months and has been waking with the cold this week. It's freezing in our house (gets down to 12 or 13 in his room). I've been progressively adding more clothing. Tonight he's wearing a long-sleeved bodysuit, a sleepsuit, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a 2.5 tog gro-bag.

I'm hoping this will be enough as I don't really want to leave the heating on all night (not that it's very effective anyway). I had to turn the thermostat up to 25 to get the temperature to 17 in his room. It is not 25 anywhere in this house. The thermostat lies.

Sorry I meant a vest bodysuit, sleepsuit, then sleeping bag
If still cold then bodysuit, sleepsuit, fleece suit then sleeping bag

jkklpu · 19/12/2009 21:01

vest and socks inside bodysuit?

ilovemydogandmrobama · 19/12/2009 21:06

Merino wool PJs?

cleanandclothed · 19/12/2009 21:08

Thanks so much for all the replies. General consenus seems to be extra clothes! Sounds a very good idea - where do you get fleece suits from?

OP posts:
cleanandclothed · 19/12/2009 21:08

Oh and yes, sleeping bag is 2.5 tog.

AliBean · 19/12/2009 21:10

what temp is the room?

IlanaK · 19/12/2009 21:10

We got our velour bodysuits (which are extremely warm) from Verdbaudet very recently and they were in the sale too.

worleywinterwonderland · 19/12/2009 21:11

can you get him a fleece sleepsuit? they do some cheap ones in asda at the moment, my ds2 used to wake up from cold arms so invested in a fleece sleepsuit.

BooHooo · 19/12/2009 21:11

cosy socks keep the whole body warm!

cleanandclothed · 19/12/2009 21:24

Thanks have had a look at vertbaudet and they look good. Room is 18 at the minute, obviously colder in the middle of the night when he wakes up.

OP posts:
AliBean · 19/12/2009 21:28

Vertbaudet do sleeping bags with detachable "duvet" arms - we have one for our 14 week old and he has been sleeping really well since we got it.
The temp in our room drops to about 15 when its really cold and DS only wakes for food...

Ponders · 19/12/2009 21:29

Has anybody said socks? Cold feet will wake you when the rest of you is warm!

AliBean · 19/12/2009 21:33

AliBean · 19/12/2009 21:36

whoops....i always mess the linky thing up

humptynumpty · 19/12/2009 22:03

apologies if repeating. My dc's used to wear vest, socks, sleepsuit and fleece sleepsuit and then blankets. You can buy reasonably priced fleece sleepsuit in tesco. Now they are older, they were cold so I got a sheepskin under the sheet or otherwise a fleece blanket folded up because I thought the sheet under them was cold. Seemed to help.

KnitterInTheNW · 19/12/2009 22:16

upstairs in our house is freezing at night. DS (21 months) has been wearing a long sleeved vest, long PJs, another long sleeved vest over the top and then 2.5 tog grobag. Socks were a step too far, he was too hot then! But was too cold with vest, PJs and socks. His arms needed more covering.
