Calling all those whose babies have refused to be put down to sleep......

Can you tell me at what age you finally could put them down and not have them sleep on top of you?

And did this happen because you found a new technique to try, or was there nothing in particular that you did to influence it?

Ds now 7 weeks and wakes within 2 mins of being put down virtually every single time. My arms would really like a rest, and I'd just love to look into ds' crib at night and see him sleeping there instead of in my arms/across my chest.

Same story day and night.

Hey, I have the Amby and I have to say that ds does settle from awake in it better than dd did in her cot. BUT no miracles here (though I am not sure I give him the opportunity to sleep in it tbh)

My 7 week old was pretty much ON me for sleep (and still is a lot at 20odd weeks). Things what worked here :

  • time*swaddling (TIGHT swaddling)
*amby at 6 weeks (does look more comfy than cot so means I am happy to put him in it sometimes)
*co-sleeping - he has slowly been able to be settled with a hand rather than just the boob. Though we have had several patchesof being ill and having to sleep upright and on me again.

  • time honestly, I have watched ds settle more and more each week. And I prob do even less sleep training than I attempted with dd (2.6 happy sleeper but wakes frequently).

He refuses a dummy - though dd has one still.

Oh I really sympathise CSWS! My dd1 (now 21 months) was a TERRIBLE sleeper, a really really bad sleeper so I also ordered a good sleeper second time round. Gah, dd2 is even worse.......

The really bad news for you is that she is 6.5 months and still only sleeps on me (preferably) or occasionally daddy or a grandparent. But not otherwise. Not at all in the day. At night, I can transfer her to being propped up on a bf'ing cushion next to me and I hold her hands so she is on her side and then she might sleep for an hour or so without needing to suck my finger. She won't take a dummy, but wants to suck my little finger.

Aitch has a point, dd1 slept much better on her tummy or side. I used to put her on her side when we were cosleeping and then she has been a tummy sleeper (I know I know) since she was 7 mnths as she could roll herself into and out of that position if necessary. So far we haven't found huge success with dd2 but she does sleep better on her tummy (though it still seems to require 30 mins of crying which is too much for me to bear but sometimes a necessity so DP deals with that - we stay with her rather than leaving her to cry).

It's impossible to have such a terrible sleeper when you have other children to look after. I can't help dd2 get the sleep she needs and I can't have hands-free for dd1 to get any time with me. Very very very tough. I hope things improve for you soon.

Oh yes! DS co-sleeps on his side (another annoying thing about the amby.)

forget to say though: at this age, ds slept in the day in the sling. Had a pouch sling which save my life (espesh with a toddler too!). ds is now too big for the pouch sling (heis enormous) but sleeps a lot when out and about in the ergo.

it was all fine when dd used to nap during the day, we'd all get into bed . Now sometimes dd watches a film while ds sleeps and I doze...
