Ok so far this week , might change as the week goes on.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I slept well. I don’t know how or why but my body temperature must plummet when I sleep as I sleep under my quilt very happily.

Annie202 · 24/06/2026 20:41

Badly.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/06/2026 20:59

I put my (top) sheet in a carrier bag in the freezer for an hour before bed. Take a cool shower, use some medicated talc and take a frozen freezer box cooler thingy wrapped in a tea towel. Once I’m asleep I’m fine until the cat decides to lie on me.

Rozendantz · 24/06/2026 21:04

I've just rolled a camping mattress out on the grass and have bought my pillow out too (no other bedding) . I intend to sleep out here for at least half of the night until the bedroom cools down.

managingexpectations · 24/06/2026 21:08

I’m not! Last night my room was 29 degrees at 11pm.
id followed all the recommendations and kept windows and blinds closed while it was sunny, opened them up when the houses was shaded and the outside air was cooler. Not a damn bit of difference!
ive found an ancient fan to try tonight and my room is marginally cooler today at 26😂 my ceiling fan get fitted tomorrow so I’m hoping that helps
I don’t sleep very well anyway but last night I managed about 45min
best of it is I’m in central Scotland so there’s a chance I’d combust if I was down south in the red alert area

Ihatewinding · 24/06/2026 21:25

Sounds strange but have you tried a bowl of water for your feet?
I keep a filled mixing bowl by the bed with a towel under, and then periodically dip my feet in it when I wake up overly hot. It basically cools your whole body as it cools the venous supply at your ankles and so returns cooler blood to your circulation.

Another good option is a wet bedsheet, it cools you down and dries as your body heat evaporates the water and this cools you down as well. Does get water marks on the mattress protector though

momager22 · 24/06/2026 21:52

my bedroom gets incredibly hot. 35 degrees today.
Separate beds, window wide open after the sun goes in or when the inside gets hotter than the outside, cotton sheet instead of duvet, naked, cold shower or wild swim before bed, fan on full blast, frozen hot water bottles in bed with me, plant mister full over cold water to spray over me if I overheat.

GoodGoodBoy · 24/06/2026 21:56

Like shit. Have ice packs in the bed, the XL Labrador size dog cooling pads, 2 fans. I can’t hack it, I’m menopausal and on SSRIs.

Im on my 3rd glass of wine tonight to help me off to sleep. By trial and error over the years I feel personally that 6 hours drunk sleep serves me better than zero sleep sober.

Miranda65 · 24/06/2026 21:58

Very well - minimum 8 hours per night. I don't understand people who say they can't sleep in hot weather... if anything, heat knocks me out. And I'm wrapped up in my duvet, so nice and toasty!

Specialneedsnightmare · 24/06/2026 22:00

Naked with just a sheet on me. Window open a crack as ground floor.

NelferchyLlyn · 24/06/2026 22:04

Slept like a log. We sleep in the attic so skylights and all windows open. I slept naked, initially ontop of duvet but I was then underneath it in the early hours.

I am actually enjoying the heat despite being a menopausal woman

mum2jakie · 24/06/2026 22:05

Badly!! Might stay up and watch a film instead

HoppityBun · 24/06/2026 22:06

I’m this of sleeping downstairs tonight

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 24/06/2026 22:07

Aircon. Its great.

Kuromi86 · 24/06/2026 22:11

Downstairs, I’m on the sofa and my husband on a memory foam fold out mattress thing. It’s lovely and cool downstairs even with all the dogs around us.

Im so jealous!!
Heat makes me tired....but being tired and actually falling asleep dont always go together for me
DH doesnt struggle to sleep, he often says youll be really tired after x, y , or z...hes right, I am absolutely spent....but that doesn't always translate to a good night's sleep. In fact I cant actually remember sleeping for 8 hours, in any weather , in years.

RudolphTheReindeer · 24/06/2026 22:13

I've been ok so far. Dh disturbs me more than the heat. It's 28 in my room tonight so the warmest it's been so far. I've put my pillowcase and nighty in the freezer and will cuddle an ice pack if necessary.

FlicnFlac · 24/06/2026 22:15

It hasn’t been too bad until tonight. Our neighbours 6 year old and friends for some reason are out on the squeaking trampoline screaming their heads off. Not sure where to close the windows or load up the super soakers to quieten them down….selfish beyond belief when everyone has their windows open.

Amazingly helpful response - you can’t understand why millions of people don’t have the same experience as you. Fabulous 🫠

Maybe we should all try harder to sleep.

Can confirm. In fact, after sleeping after a night out from about 2am-6am I actually woke up feeling good. Not still drunk, either!!

likimagee · Yesterday 07:36

My sleep score has been in the high 90s all week according to my app! Air con, currently wrapped up in a duvet.

JonathanGirl · Yesterday 07:42

It was 11pm before it was cooler outside than inside yesterday.

We opened all the windows then to let some of the heat out.

We’re sleeping under cotton cellular blankets - they are great in the heat, much better than a sheet for me because they have a bit of weight to them.

I can’t sleep with a fan on.

LanyardSpaghetti · Yesterday 07:56

Horizontally, on a bed, no pillow, empty duvet cover, windows open on all sides of the house whilst outside temperatures are lower than indoors, fan on, 5 minute cold shower before bed.

bananaapplepears · Yesterday 07:58

I've slept fine and as I normally would. Windows fully shut, no fan and half under the duvet. I never have trouble sleeping luckily.

SleepyLondoner · Yesterday 23:16

God this heat is absolutely brutal for sleeping, isn't it. We've been really struggling too - I ended up buying a cooling mattress topper last week and honestly it's made a surprising difference. Not a miracle cure but definitely takes the edge off the hot back situation.

A few things that've helped us in this weather:

  • Thin cotton percale sheets instead of brushed cotton (way less sweaty)
  • Putting the duvet in the freezer for 10 mins before bed (sounds mad but works!)
  • A cool shower right before getting in, not warm
  • Freezing a hot water bottle (yes, really - stick it in the freezer and use it as a cold pack)

There's actually a really good roundup of cooling products that actually work on SleepWell if anyone's looking - they tested a load of stuff properly rather than just listing Amazon affiliate links: sleepreview.co.uk/?utm_source=mumsnet&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=rep

Stay cool everyone, this heatwave is no joke!
