Husband says remove blackouts for 3yo? Thoughts?

Please help settle an argument with my husband!

My daughter is a terrible sleeper, she gets up very early, she sleeps with her window closed, blackout blinds and white noise. however her room is insanely hot in this weather so last night I put a fan in her room, but we had 2 hours of her waking scared until I took it out! So I resorted to opening her window and removing the blackouts (it was 30 degrees). She slept 9.30-4.45 but wouldn’t go back to sleep after that and I am sure it was the light and noise.

We have a terrible window that will only fit Venetian blinds and opens too high for an aircon unit. I am already having a meltdown that this is it for summer - window open, no blackouts and 4.45 starts. So was looking at other options. Yet my husband thinks it’s time to stop ‘wrapping her up’ and she should learn to sleep without the blinds and noise. Obviously he’s not the one getting up with her or dealing with an overtired child all day! He’s basically blocking me from putting anything back up in her room (I was thinking blackout on lower half of window that doesn’t open at least).

Would love to know what people think about this- would you stop the blinds and noise?

Thanks!

I have blackout blinds so that the sun doesn't wake me up at 4 and 5am and don't consider it to be coddling, just common sense. But I do also get where your dh is coming from that you want her to be resilient with her sleeping, not turn her into the princess and the pea. However in this case since you are in charge of getting up in the morning you get final say on how to approach it.

Dd1 is 11 and still has a blackout blind and curtains! The bedroom faces east though so it's never unbearably hot at night. It's not wrapping her up at all, they are just thick curtains to keep a room darker, perfectly normal. Do you have a loft hatch? Opening that up in the evening makes a big difference as all the heat travels up I tk the loft and cools down upstairs.

We all have blackout blinds in our house. Let her keep them.

Your husband is more of a problem than her sleeping "problems".

Try getting a quieter fan, put the blinds back up and don't open the windows in there. Put the fan on all afternoon and evening.

We have similar issues with DS bedroom. New build, south facing, insanely hot. He rooms is 25 degrees already and it's only may, it gets nearer to 30 degrees in summer. I would not remove the black out blinds or white noise. We dress him very light, the last 2 nights just pjs and no duvet. We'll add a fan if it gets hotter again.

Long term though we are planning aircon built into the room so that won't affect the window at all and shouldn't be too loud. Is that an option rather than aircon that goes on the window?

Ice packs, thin cover, naked/knickers only. He sounds really controlling however. She’s still only little. He’s “blocking” you from doing certain thing?

My dd has a similar problem in her room. We’ve just installed some reflective window film and it’s great, a bit like sunglasses for the window and has reduced the temp from 26c to 22 which is a bit more bearable.
TBH we all sleep with fans in this weather too but then both my kids like white noise

Why would you stop, that's mad? Just get something and ignore your husband. We have the window open and a blackout blind that velcros round the frame, it's great. ask him if he would like to sleep in a room with no curtains or blind.
