HELP! How do you sleep when DH snores?

My DH snores. Nothing new there. I wear earplugs but I still hear it through my Facial bones. It’s awful & has got worse. I get woken up between 5-10 times a night. I never get more than an hour’s sleep straight. I am broken (both my DM & DSF have died in the last 6 months so I am mentally & physically exhausted). We don’t have a spare room so I want to ask what do you do when you have a snoring partner, have no spare room & don’t want to spend your nights on the sofa which would basically turn us into house mates! And what about holidays? Thank you!

My dh sleeps upright. I’ve also been given permission to slap him if he snores, which means he stays upright all night. Seems harsh but between him and the baby I’d be getting no sleep otherwise.

By page 2 you have mentioned twice that you need to find a way to make this more his problem.

What do you think of the fact that he considers the effect he is having on you is not his problem?

My DH tried to prove I was wrong by using an app to record the length and volume of his snoring. He was straight to the GP with his tail between his legs once he saw/heard the evidence.

He has a CPAP but we still sleep in separate rooms because I can't stand the air stream it blows out. Tbh he needs to lose weight & get more sleep.

Do you have Snore tape available? It is literally a round piece of tape that keeps the mouth closed. As long as nasal breathing is ok it might help.

If he resists just tell him you'll wake him every time his snoring wakes you. Make it unpleasant for him & he might start to see it's a him problem!!

My husband got diagnosed with sleep apnoea and got a C-pap machine. He looks horrendous and breathes like Darth Vader but I can finally sleep!

Noisex ear plugs

Hay-fever meds and lots of encouragement to sleep on his side.

Am considering a dog electric shock collar for my DH. Have so far tried all the above apart from the selfish bastard not losing weight… which will be down to me to buy him the WLI and stab him.

The only way I can sleep next to DH is proper earplugs (forget the foam ones, I’ve found the Bollsen ones best) and a sleep mask with headphones that I play lovely sleepy music through. Works a charm and he is a very loud snorer. I also have a spare bedroom though which is needed for those nights he’s been out with his mates.

Solidarity @buttermymuffins! My DH is not overweight, doesn’t smoke, barely drinks and snores like a warthog. I blame many cricket balls to the face over the years. I have Alpine Sleep Deep earplugs, but like you say, earplugs don’t cut it when the vibrations go through your bones. I try bundling a load of duvet between up as a sort of bund. Not convinced it works.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads i now have loop earplugs and a Snoozeband. And we now have a ‘pub bed’ - a pull down Murphy bed in our study for when too much alcohol has been consumed. I still hear the snoring (even from the other room!) but the music from the Snoozeband reduces the regular cadence & vibration of the snore. But the Snoozeband wearing & music take a bit of getting used to. DH is going to get one of those retainer things to wear but they are bloody expensive. Cheaper than a lawyer though! 😆😵‍💫 the disturbed sleep is a killer though isn’t it? I’ve just been away for a few days with work & it’s bliss to only wake up once in the night for a wee rather than every hour by the resident warthog who claims not be snoring! 😴

I snore & an ENT consultant I worked with recommended Snorban mouthguard - order online, think it was around £40, you mould it to fit. It stops jaw dropping back & obstructing airway. DH confirms it works! Might be worth a try.

Very fortunately we have a spare bedroom so after a few drinks on a Friday night there’s no way I could sleep next to dh - I tend to go and sleep in the spare as it’s very comfy and the quietest room in the house but if either one of us are struggling with sleep through the night we will go up there so the other isn’t too disturbed.
