If both parents work, how are you managing to get your babies to bed for 7pm?

DS is ten months old and will start his night time sleep at around 8:30-9pm. I feel like this is very out of step with what I see on here and what I hear in local mums’ groups, where babies are put down for 7pm.

But, I just don’t see how this is feasible! Once I’m back at work, DH and I will both be home for around 5:30-5:45. We’ll barely have a chance to come in, make and eat dinner, give DS dinner before it’s 7pm! What about spending time with DS, a bit of play and reading time, baths etc. I don’t see how people do it?!

Is 7pm just for if you have a SAHP who can facilitate an earlier bedtime?

Only on a Wednesday? How bizarre.

No. Midweek means Tuesday-Thursday. Those were the days when both of us were in the office so we picked up later from nursery and didn’t eat with the kids.
How is that bizarre?!

Agree it depends on their schedule. Our 1.5 year old wakes up between 7.50-8.30am so her bedtime is 8ish sometimes later. She has a long nap in the day too so gets 12+ hrs (which is what matters). Sleeps very well and is a happy girl!

I would wfh, husband would get home with DD at 5:15pm. Tea on the table. Tea finished at 5:45pm and it's just bedtime routine with book, teeth etc and bed at 6:30.

The one day I'm in the office, we'd get home at 5:30, easy tea like heating up a batch meal and bed by 6:30-6:45

My DD was fed, bathed, story and put to bed for 7pm and I’d eat after she was asleep. I’d still sit at the table with her but we just couldn’t fit the family meal in.
8:30-9pm is a very late bedtime for an almost 1 year-old (in my opinion, might be fine for others).
It sucked because it felt like I was barely spending time with DD, it was all just rush to get her to bed but if she goes to bed late she’s shattered the next day (she wakes at 06:00-06:30 regardless of what time she goes to bed).

We never did 7pm - couldn’t - we were only just coming in from nursery collection and I had to do DT’s on my own 3 days a week as DH wouldn’t be home until 8-9pm.

In cots by 8.30pm and up at 6.30am. We all survived.

On the days I was in until 5 I’d have tea of some sorts prepared already so we’d get in, I’d put CBeebies on whilst I heated up tea. After tea we’d play and relax together before bedtime. I’m sure this sounds strange to some but I did bath time in the morning with a quick wash with a flannel before bed as that gave us time to go on a quick walk if weather was nice or just play together.

We’re home at 5.30 ish (after picking Dd1 up from nursery). She has a hot meal at nursery, so quick snack (cheese on toast, crackers and hummus, fruit etc) and then at 6.30 we head up to bed for bath / wash, bedtime story. She’s generally in bed by 7.10.
