Melatonin from US

My son has the melatonin gummies from US and we are running short. My friend has offered to send some over as she lives there and we aren’t visiting till October. Is there any reason she can’t do this? Is it legal?

It may very well get seized as it is a prescription only drug in the UK

CleanShirt · 14/07/2024 18:31

I have friends regularly bring me back gummies and they have never been seized.

Brendabigbaps · 14/07/2024 18:32

You can order them yourself on line, we use biovea

TurtleTackle · 14/07/2024 18:32

I get it prescribed nightly from my GP ( authorised by my psychiatrist) I'm on 6mg a night.
Would the GP not prescribe?
If you are using it for sleep have you not tried promethazine depending on your son's age

Cellotapedispenser · 14/07/2024 18:37

Relative sends us bottles every now and again, friends traveling grab us a few regularly. No problems so far. It's an on the shelf product in the US.

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 14/07/2024 18:38

It's illegal in the UK to buy melatonin for children. However i have to say I'm close to doing it!

samedifferent · 14/07/2024 20:02

I have posted bottles for a friend before. It is sold alongside vitamins in USA supermarkets with some for dc and others for adults.

Kitkat1523 · 14/07/2024 20:08

It’s otc in many countries….we brought some back from Australia…
my son brings them home from where he lives in canada

spottedinthewilds · 14/07/2024 20:11

I buy it from Biovea too.

Does anyone else find it only keeps them asleep for about 5 hours??

manipulatrice · 14/07/2024 20:26

I usually bring it back from the states, but they do sell it in Europe. Brought back a tub of gummies from Spain in April.

missy111 · 14/07/2024 20:34

I buy it regularly from piping rock. Never had an issue with customs etc

How old is DD?
I'm 30 and this was under my psychiatrists guidance so this may be why GP being a pain in the arse with you?

NCfor24 · 14/07/2024 20:40

Buy from Biovea.net
Never had an issue and delivery is really quick nowadays whereas it used to be a couple of weeks or so

ilikecatsandponies · 14/07/2024 21:46

If has to be prescribed by a paediatrician in the UK for children, I think a regular GP can't prescribe. I didn't realise gummies exist though that would make my life so much easier!

Yep

Attictroll · 14/07/2024 21:51

biovea here too.

Dontmesswithmyhead · 14/07/2024 21:51

Piping Rock here. I take it every night

geography21 · 14/07/2024 21:52

Yes you need a paediatrician but yes many people buy online due to issues accessing a paediatrician - it was a game changer for us. No idea why so many parents struggle to access a paediatrician for sleep problems here, it's a shame as sleep is vital.

BoobyDazzler · 14/07/2024 21:52

I’ve bought it online many times from a company called PipingRock.

SabrinaThwaite · 14/07/2024 21:56

@spottedinthewilds

Try the slow release ones - you’ll probably still wake after 5 hrs but it helps you drop off again more easily. I use the 3mg slow release.

Cardolino · 14/07/2024 21:59

You can get it in Lidl in Italy €2, but it’s just 1mg tablets so you’d need to take 3 each night.

Thanks, I will look at that.

I take 10mg but that's just what I ordered. I never have a problem falling asleep at night but I wake at 3/4/5am and aren't able to go back off. Even when I take the melatonin I wake after 5 hours and am really giddy/hyper. I now only take them if I wake early enough to then get a full 5 hours, so at weekends or if I wake around 2am.

SabrinaThwaite · 14/07/2024 22:16

10mg is really strong! Do you have very weird dreams and wake up feeling like you’re hung over?

Try the 3mg slow release, you’ll likely find it as effective with less side effects.

I use 12mg. You can’t OD on melatonin, your system washes it out. I spoke to the NHS poisons unit about it.
