What's keeping you awake?

Posting here for traffic.

I can't sleep, again. I'm curious to know what keeps you awake at night? Is there anything specific or can you simply just not sleep? I'm just scrolling MN for no obvious reason and thought I'd ask the question.

@Holidayhomehell I'm recently diagnosed so still learning but its a variety of symptoms that wake me but no idea why I can't get back to sleep..

MillenialAvocado · 30/01/2023 05:03

I just created my own thread to vent on until I saw this one Grin DS woke up at 1.30am and has only just gone back to sleep. I have to get up in an hour. I've had two hours sleep. This happens every Sunday, and has also been going on all week. Don't know if this is dramatic but it feels like it's actually ruining my life at the moment.

Pregnancy insomnia - have induction booked for 7am , couldn’t fall to sleep had a few hours. Genuine anxiety and panic over this induction as my first was horrific.

generally catastrophising over everything , made my stomach bad

DS4 woke me up to go to the toilet and can't go back to sleep once I'm awake.
Also have PGP and a cough that keeps aggravating it.

After many years of wanting a new kitchen the work is starting this morning and I have been awake since before 4 thinking about what might go wrong! Not sure why probably the amount of money it’s costing. I just need to tell myself it will be fine.

Tiredandweary1987 · 30/01/2023 05:30

Each one is so different @Jusmakingit

my last was a quick waters break and he was in my arms an hour later.
yes, it was quick- a bit too quick! But I honestly felt fine once I’d realised I was all done.

are you overdue?
good look, you’ll do brilliantly.

Currently up feeding my newborn. He's fallen asleep on me so I'm hoping to transfer him back to his cot so I can go and pump. He was last up feeding between 2:30-3:30 and went down easily so 🤞.

I sleep very poorly due to chronic pain in several places, mental illness and worry. My mental health diagnosis is bad enough but additional illnesses include anxiety, depression, severe worry and so on. I worry about my husband a lot. I worry about my daughter and sibling. My thoughts consume me and I think through scenarios in fine detail. My cpn says although it makes sense when explained she said how do you arrive at that? It's so in depth!

My lovely, nerdy, never goes out after dark son had an accident today.

He fell 15ft from the window of an abandoned mill him and his friend were exploring.

He is fine - lots and lots of cuts and bruises, sprained ankle, eye almost closed shut. But he's home and alive.

I have seen the video of the fall, and it's keeping me awake. The 'what ifs' and the anger and the sheer hopelessness that no matter how good your kid is, this could still happen.

Alarms set to check on him hourly. My biggest child feels like my smallest tonight.

Oh my goodness, so pleased
your son is okay , but how utterly terrifying for you . Hugs 💕

It's not often I'd recommend Katie Price, but talk to him about how she broke both ankles doing similar.

@funkybum my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Im glad he's fine though. Must've been awfully scary, I can't imagine x

Wow thank you for all the amazing responses. I fell asleep just after I posted this, usually I'm awake till 2am as i WFH and can't seem to find any motivation to want to sleep. Rolled out of bed at 8am today which is so unlike me. WFH is so new too, only been doing it two weeks so taking advantage of the lay ins I guess.

I very unexpectedly (but also deep down knew it was coming) had to put my cat down Saturday night due to a uterine blockage & kidney failure.
If I stop distracting myself & try to sleep, the tears & the sadness takes over and the overwhelming guilt I feel because I feel like failed him, even though, logically, I know this was the kindest route to take & had we sought treatment, the results were very likely to be the same outcome. It was a lose/lose situation but it doesn't make it any easier 😞

So sorry to hear this. Thinking of you

That sounds exciting. Definitely send a photo in if a before and after!
