What's keeping you awake?

Posting here for traffic.

I can't sleep, again. I'm curious to know what keeps you awake at night? Is there anything specific or can you simply just not sleep? I'm just scrolling MN for no obvious reason and thought I'd ask the question.

Got into a awful routine of not going to sleep till 4/5/6 in the morning

I have to break this cycle!!

Yikes! What time does your day start?

My fiancé is submitting his PhD thesis this week and it’s very stressful in our house. I’m awake worrying about it, ruminating on the weird atmosphere between us at the moment and stressing about the fact I have to be up in 4 hours for work and probably won’t make the gym tomorrow because I’ll be too tired

ThelastRolo20 · 30/01/2023 03:03

My 13 month daughter who for the last couple of nights has found getting and staying to sleep impossible even next to me in bed. Feels like I've gone ten rounds with how much she throws herself around. Here's hoping this weird phase doesn't last too long!

stockpilingallthecheese · 30/01/2023 03:04

I'm in labour! Went to hospital earlier as waters broke, sent home and having contractions while my husband who doesn't normally snore, is snoring next to me. Zero chance of sleep right now!

Nixnjj1 · 30/01/2023 03:09

Heart failure here, Can't sleep for more than 3 -4 hours at a time, wide awake now then knackered when the day starts. That coupled with a deep sense of doom make for a wonderful few hours.

Holidayhomehell · 30/01/2023 03:13

Tonight I am still awake as DD appears to have tonsillitis again. She’s now in my bed with DH and I am in her bed. But I’ve been up with her all night. She’s shivery, achy and has started to get stomach pains and being sick.

Alarm is set for 6.30am to go in to office but going to see how she is. GP appointment will 100% be required.

I’m often awake at this time during periods of insomnia. Can’t pinpoint what the trigger is for it but I can go for weeks on 3-4 hours sleep at night. It’s been much better recently and I’m not sure why. When I am awake too many thoughts go through my head.

Hi @Nixnjj1 I’m sorry to hear that.

A close family member of mine has heart failure and doesn’t sleep well. Didn’t know there was a link?

I very unexpectedly (but also deep down knew it was coming) had to put my cat down Saturday night due to a uterine blockage & kidney failure.
If I stop distracting myself & try to sleep, the tears & the sadness takes over and the overwhelming guilt I feel because I feel like failed him, even though, logically, I know this was the kindest route to take & had we sought treatment, the results were very likely to be the same outcome. It was a lose/lose situation but it doesn't make it any easier 😞

EldersOfTheInternet · 30/01/2023 03:18

Something(s) very noisy trying to get in making a huge racket. I recently had to relocate some mice during the last cold snap to the barn as they started to make a home in a box of jumpers in back bedroom but I don't think these are mice unless they have clogs on 😳

Big hugs to you, I know that pain too well and I'm facing it yet again with two of my cats at the moment for different reasons. You rarely feel like you've done the right thing no matter which way you choose with animals. How lucky you both were to have each other you sound like you have a lot of love in you.

41 weeks pregnant today. Impatiently waiting for our daughter to arrive 😪 lying awake nervous/excited/scared/with heartburn 🤣🙈

Good luck!! Can you take the edge off with paracetamol and kick the snoring husband until he stops?! My waters only broke 28hrs into a 30hr labour so I hope yours moves along quicker!

SNWannabe · 30/01/2023 03:31

@stockpilingallthecheese how exciting!!! But seriously, try to snooze at least as you’ll regret it if you don’t!

I am awake as I’m on a Nightshift and don’t sleep on my breaks- watching casualty 😂

Agapornis · 30/01/2023 04:08

Chronic stress, crying, cold feet, bad sleeping pattern. Urgh.

MajesticWhine · 30/01/2023 04:13

We just decided on and paid for a summer holiday and I am consumed with anxiety that it's going to be shit. I'm not usually like this and I'm not a worrier. I also have a bad back and am waiting for MRI results so that's both making me uncomfortable and making me overthink.

sanityisamyth · 30/01/2023 04:17

I always wake up around 2pm and manage to fall asleep again around 6pm. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night.

YfenniChristie · 30/01/2023 04:19

Considering we've never coslept and he sleeps in his own room, I've woken up in a panic thinking DS (8mths) is in my bed. Have been frantically tearing at the covers and shoving DH (who is still fast asleep!) trying to find him before I came round.

This has been an almost nightly occurrence since DS was born, and coupled with his night wakings, it's really beginning to frustrate me as I always take ages to settle again.

MinnieMountain · 30/01/2023 04:28

Peri-menopause. My usual podcast isn’t helping me to nod back off.

Willygogs · 30/01/2023 04:33

I’ve got this flu virus that’s going around. Persistent cough, asked DH to get me some cough medicine, but in his wisdom he decided I didn’t need it 😡.
So instead I’m awake coughing until I’m 🤮

MrsWidgerysLodger · 30/01/2023 04:36

I'm having an ME flare up combined with a stinking cold. 😭

HildasLostSock · 30/01/2023 04:37

My 6 month old. He typically wakes/wants a feed at 1 am and again at roughly 5:30/6 but for the past few nights decided to change things up wanting an additional feed at 3:30. Tonight he woke up when I transferred him back to his cot, still trying to get him back to sleep. Hope its soon as I need to be up at 7 to get the eldest ready for school and then various appointments during the day. Hope everyone gets much needed rest.

My baby. I haven't slept properly in 13 months and I'm typing this with tears streaming down my face. It truly is a torture method.

My first was the same. I remember crying with frustration. And then one night, around 15 months and without me doing anything different, sleep just clicked for her and now she’s 12 hours (sometimes more). You can do this 💪

currently up with my second who is another sleep thief, trying to remember it doesn’t last forever!

TrivialSoul · 30/01/2023 04:43

I woke up thanks to DH snoring and now I have managed to to find problems with everything that I need to do this week!! So now I'm on MN to stop my mind from wandering and foreseeing the end of the world or something minor like that!!

@bakewellbride just a hello and hand hold. Mine is only little so have only had a few weeks of the sleep deprivation but it’s so lonely and wanted you to know you’re not alone! Feel free to message if ever you need some virtual company in the small hours :)
