Nappies leaking every night; at wits wnd

Hey all,

Got an 8mo little one who is wearing size 4+ nappies during the day. Like any baby he has the occasional daytime leak but nothing unusual.

For the last 3 weeks he's been having major leaks every night and when he needs changed he gets massively awake then takes 2 hours to get back to sleep.

We've tried double nappies. We've tried changing brands, multiple times. We've tried going up to size 5 just for overnights. Tried going down a size to 4. Also tried reusable nappies. We've tried creeping in and pre-emptively changing him gently (doesn't work, screaming meltdown).

He is kind of a weird rotund shape rn because he eats everything but hasn't started crawling so he is a major barrel belly. But surely lots of babies like that?

Any suggestions please, getting quite desparate!

How about wearing a proper fitting nappy first then a bigger one over the top? Is it waking him or do you notice he’s wet and then lift him? My boy was a wee chunk too and had this issue but didn’t really wake with it.

YorkshireTeaCup · 20/10/2022 23:15

I don't have a boy, but friends of mine swore by one nappy on the right way round and then another nappy on back to front over the top? Then you get the wider coverage at the front as well.

DS1 was the exact same shape til he started walking. I used pampers nappy pants for him from he started crawling and never had a leaky nappy! I think with normal nappies they ended up too loose round the waist during the night as his belly shrunk a bit but nappy pants stretched and shrunk with him iyswim.

Sparklythings1 · 20/10/2022 23:18

The pampers nappy pants for night time. Can never remember the proper name of them but there was a superhero on the packet. I found we had to switch to those around that time then ended up running out once when he got to a year but discovered we could then switch back to normal nappies and had no leaks. He was literally wet through to his sleeping bag every night before we switched

Is he wearing a vest that buttons between legs to bed? If so, size that up. My boy leaked constantly until we did this. Seemed to be the vest was pushing the nappy at weird angles causing leaks.

Mysleepingangel · 20/10/2022 23:21

Hi

My son was the same, and we started using pampers at night. These aren't the pants as they were too big for him (he's slim) so just used the 12hrs ones. Work wonders.

Try them x

carringtonm · 20/10/2022 23:21

I second the bigger vest - the only time my children have leaked was when their vests were too small. I've also heard of adding a muslin folded in with the nappy to add extra absorption but I've never tried that myself.

ivykaty44 · 20/10/2022 23:27

They used to do pads to slit in the nappies for night time, they worked well

not sure if they’ll still do them?

Gossipxox · 20/10/2022 23:29

Tescos premium nappies in the size up!! They are so good for my little chunky girl!

2021mumma · 20/10/2022 23:31

Had same issue with my baby boys - started using pampers nappy pants and now no more leaks!

Esbee1 · 20/10/2022 23:33

Went through the same with my son at a similar age, he was leaking pretty much every night. Realised he was wriggling a lot in his sleep so we changed to Pampers active fit nappy pants (normal pampers didn't work for us) and they've been brilliant - no leaks at all.

ChittyBang1987 · 21/10/2022 03:41

We had this. Every single night! We went on kit kins website and used their slip in pad things. Fantastic. We use 2 sometimes 3 overnight. Works wonders for us. I would also suggest which worked too. Use bigger size nappy woth baby knickers. We found it kept nappy in place rather then a vest.

Northbynorthbreast · 21/10/2022 04:35

We had this. Mine drinks gargantuan amounts before bed.

Nappy pants with a big fat incontience pad stuck inside helped a lot.

Sikaris · 21/10/2022 05:00

Pampers baby dry works for us.

ShadowPuppets · 21/10/2022 05:22

DD was leaking overnight until we got her into pull ups - I think they just cling to her body better?

Cupcakegirl13 · 21/10/2022 05:35

Use Pampers at night , nappy pants are better as elasticated.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 21/10/2022 06:12

Definitely all the above and assume you're already making sure his willy points down when you do up the nappy.

00100001 · 21/10/2022 06:35

How much does your baby weigh?

Size 4 seems pretty big?

YukoandHiro · 21/10/2022 06:39

Have you tried moving to nappy pants(pull-ups) ina size 5?

Jet888 · 21/10/2022 06:41

We did the one nappy forwards, one nappy on backwards

InABigMess · 21/10/2022 06:46

We had this, I posted as well because I was at my wit's end! We used normal nappy in the correct size and a size up in Pampers night time pull ups and a bigger vest, this was after trying pretty much every brand of nappy. He has been ok now, the whole thing lasted maybe a month, but we also started sleep training at the same time because we couldn't cope with him being up hours when he did wake.
Not sure whether it was time/phase or something else but we got through it. Good luck!

mrssunshinexxx · 21/10/2022 06:53

Pampers or pull ups overnight

KangarooKenny · 21/10/2022 06:54

Put a pull-up on over the nappy.

BeanyBops · 21/10/2022 06:58

Pampers actifit are the only ones that stop leaks for us and it was recommended by multiple friends when we had the same issue. Then cheap ones during the day. We are about to try out aldi for night time due to budget constraints. Thoughts and prayers.

MoltenLasagne · 21/10/2022 07:04

Try a reusable nappy cover over the top. We used to use reusable and switched to disposable nappies but still keep the covers at nighttime because of leaks.

Motherease Airflow are the best - you can just chuck them in the wash with everything else.
