How long does your 7 year old sleep, on average

DD is just turned 7. Brilliant sleeper (except that she cannot go to sleep initially alone), who also has always needed a lot of sleep - if the books said "at this age, most babies will need between 12-14 hours a night" she'd be the one getting 14 hours.

I think she's shifting her needs but can't quite work it out. Please tell me what your child age 6-8 routinely needs?

So 10-11 hours is quite common although those children might need a bit more and 11-12 is not unusual. She's on just under 11. I think it's not enough. Now to try to get it a bit earlier which is challenging as DH works evenings so I'm often doing dinner, bed, bath etc alone, usually while still trying to finish off my own work. Will have to try harder. I'll aim for an 8:15 lights out tonight, see how that goes, then try bring it in. The problem is that she doesn't get a lot of chance to sleep in as she has an activity on Saturday mornings. Sundays she can theoretically but for various reasons it's not really effective because DH lets her go to bed ridiculously late on Saturdays. I've said that has to stop anyway so hopefully that will help.

DD7 does 8ish-6.30 on average, sometimes she sleeps later but rarely any later than 7.30am. She's always been an early riser and has started recently not being as tired at bedtime (used to be 7pm until the last few months). She messes around at bedtime now so can take anything from 20 minutes to an hour for her to eventually go to sleep!
