My 13 month old sleeps through the night but since he started nursery gets up very early. Today he was up at 4.50. He will not go back down even with a feed. This whole week he’s been up at 5/5.30. The latest tea been up recently is 5.45.

What can I do? I have someone coming out to measure for better black out blinds in case that is the issue.

Our daughter has always woken around 5am but we've had some success with the following

  1. waking her at 3.30am for a few consecutive mornings, just turning on a dim light and changing her nappy and putting her back to bed. It puts her into a new cycle of sleep. You only have to do it for a few mornings but it starts to break the habitual wake.
  2. Moving her getting up time to 6. So, unless she's actually distressed (generally she would just babble to herself or make pissed off noises), wait and get her up at 6. I found that any interaction or attempt to get her back to sleep just over stimulated her.

You don't need to do chores in the evening, they are the perfect thing to do early in the morning. Once little one is asleep have your chill out time and then an early night. In the morning wake up and get it done.

Not that this helps at all but as a slovenly teenager I once asked my parents why I'm earth they got up at 5.30/6am most mornings even if they didn't need to. Apparently 5+ years of doing it with your child sets your body clock Grin and it becomes the new normal...
