ds2 is 4mo

a shocking sleeper

last night for example: woke twice while i was downstairs - managed to settle him with gentle jiggle (with him still in cot) and dummy reinsertion

woke at 2:40 - i had to pace around with him for 20 mins to get him back off

3:45 - fed him - now i know he's capable of making it 12 hrs without a feed, but he's a bit off colour and i was too tiored to repeat jiggle/pace-fest

5ish - still unsettled so brought him into bed with me - had to resettle him a couple of times before he woke for good at 6:45

so~ - plan of action req'd

  1. controlled crying. pros: if it works he'll learn to settle self without disturbing us or ds1, and we could move him into own room. cons: not sure i can stomach cc for a 4mo; also, likelihood of waking ds1 whilst getting cc to work
  1. pick up/put down. pros: less harsh than cc. cons: i'm too blardy knackered for several pu/pd sessions a night
  1. carry on muddling though, cuddling to sleep and resettling any oild how in the night. pros: feels more sympathetic to ds2, and unlikely to disturb ds1. cons: increase in wrinkles and grey hair

heeeyyyyulp!

also, have to say funny to read posts by you wioth a baby - have this idea that you've always been a mum of boys, not babies. mad, yes i know

think he may be teething

also doc thinks he's getting over an ear infection

because cuddles/feed doesn't always do the trick i think it mkust be discomfort

must be warm enough - sleepsuit, swaddle sheet, 1.0 tog sleepig bag

Option 1 would be my choice.

Ime/o i think the earlier you get them to self settle the better and easier it will be.

Have only read OP btw (apologies if its been already said)

MrsJohnScootersack · 23/11/2007 21:15

ABSOLUTLEY NO to CC at 4 months
probably won't work anyway, he won'd understand what you're up to and everyone will end up upset, most likely he is teething or growth spurt or cold or something that he needs anyway. Sleeping bag?

am currently sort of option 3ing. it's definitely teeth here (8 months) and it was when he went funny at 4 months too

hotbot · 23/11/2007 21:33

3 for me too, it will pass, (eventually)
my dd the same much sympathy for you

MrsBadger · 26/11/2007 14:29

dd (14wks or so) had a hellish week last week - up every hour every night - and I could see grey hair and Wit's End fast approaching.
Helpful () friends suggested dummies, CC, bottles, baby rice etc etc.
I stuck fingers in ears, did 3, and said I'd give her a week in the hopes it was A Phase.

Saturday night (exactly a week after the first crap night) she woke for one feed at 4.30am and that was it - her best night ever.

This too shall pass, this too shall pass...

Twiglett · 28/11/2007 14:52

sniggers at the remembrance of the 'molluscum incident'

funnily enough had rl friend round today who mentioned it in an 'I still can't quite believe that happened' way .. and I must say I agreed .. 'twas very odd time
