I am in desperate need of some help before I go completely mad.

DD has started to sleep through the night every few nights. However on the nights that she wakes up, she screams for several hours and I don;t know why.

I am very depressed about this (PND kicking in quite late - going to doctors re. this tomorrow) and really need some answers.

I know that she can settle herself so why on some nights does she scream for hours. If I pick her up she will calm down then cry when she goes back in the cot. If we leave her to cry it literally never ends. I know that she is not hungry as she drinks plenty during the day.

As I write this she is screaming her head off and has been for an hour and a half and nothing myself or DP seems to help.

What makes it so frustrating is that she slept through the night the last 2 nights which somehow makes the wakeups even worse.

I need to know why she is waking up on some nights and not others. I hope someone can help me before I drive myself insane.

Update on sleeping situation.

Things seem to have got better and we have had no late night wakeups since Tuesday (hope I havn't jinxed myself!!). I have steered clear of carrot and put another layer on DD so maybe one of those is working.

For some reason she has stopped being able to get herself off to sleep at naptime and bedtime so I am having to hold her until she is calm and then put her in the cot, but to be honest I can cope with doing this as long as she still sleeps well.

Anyone else experienced this?

Ellasmum, I have to wait until dd is out cold before I put her in her cot, otherwise she pings onto her tummy and instantly wakes up. I will try leaving her to settle herself once she is in her own room but it's not an option atm.

Btw, glad thinga are better. My dd had huge problems with different foods making her windy at night (sweet potato, swede, potato, oats etc.) but now (from about 6 and a half mo) she can eat anything with no ill effects - last night she had broccoli and cauliflower cheese!

What is it about carrot, my ds always throws up after eating it, can they be alergic to it?
