Baby won't keep covers in bed

Any tips on how to help my baby accept the covers and pillow?

We currently put them in his bed every night and tuck him in, but once he has finished his bottle he will stand up and throw them out.

I'm worried as it's now coming into winter that he may get cold, we make sure the room is warm but I could just be over protective.

Any tips would be really appreciated Smile

How old is your baby? What about a sleeping bag/gro bag?

Ivfmommy2b · 28/10/2020 21:26

Sleeping bag. They are great!

clary · 28/10/2020 21:27

Your baby doesn't need and in fact shouldn't have a pillow unless he is about two. Ditto a cover really.

He only needs cellular blankets up to that age (bc of overheating risk). If it's a cold night, a baby grobag may be good, or thin layers of clothing (vest plus babygrow).

My ds2 in particular was a very wriggly baby (haha still is) and he would never stay under anything I put over him. He must have been OK tho as he never woke bc he was cold.

bigpinkdinosaur · 28/10/2020 21:27

I have a 2 year old who flops around like a dying fish alllllllll night. She's in a sleeping bag as she wouldn't be able to keep a blanket on

LemonBreeland · 28/10/2020 21:28

Agree with others on the sleeping bag, and no pillow

CeibaTree · 28/10/2020 21:29

Grow bag and no pillow :)

randomsabreuse · 28/10/2020 21:33

Sleeping bags. Go up to about 3 ish. I never know which end of the cot DC (2 year old) will eventually choose, sometimes he uses his pillow as a blanket, more often has a missile...

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 21:34

Pillows are ok from age 1. What age is your baby?

LivingoffCoffee · 28/10/2020 21:39

What about when your DC are too big for a sleeping bag though (which I'm guessing may be the case for the OP)?

My DS probably is okay for a sleeping bag through this winter, but then will have to introduce a cover instead.

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 21:40

They go up to age 10 I think. Certainly there's an age 3-6years so I doubt that their baby is too big for one

Do they?? I've never seen any beyond 36mo!

Here's just one example

Sleeping bag and ditch the pillow. Babies shouldn’t really have pillows anyway.

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 21:55

6-10 years one

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 21:55

Mine had pillows from age 1

slipperywhensparticus · 28/10/2020 21:56

Ds who is 7 has very rarely spent a night under bed covers he sleeps in bed surrounded by them blankets and duvets you cover him up and he shrugs it off minutes later despite feeling cold to the touch doesn't seem to stop him sleeping he is happy in a birds nest

Also he usually sleeps naked

Fatted · 28/10/2020 21:57

Another call for a sleeping bag.

I'm surprised everyone has picked up on the pillow and not the fact that baby is left alone with a bottle.

copperoliver · 28/10/2020 22:00

Buy a sleep/gro bag. X

winniesanderson · 28/10/2020 22:57

You can get baby sleeping bags that have legs/feet. Which are great if they like to move around a lot. My two year old spends about half of the night under the covers and then starts to roll about a bit so we have some fleece babygros or fleece pj bottoms for colder nights. We've also got a few pairs of thermal long johns which have been in the sales in Tesco a few times. I originally bought them for camping. They keep her lovely and warm too.

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 28/10/2020 23:13

Depending on how old your baby is. Duvet and pillows aren't recommended until 1 years old.
Get a nice thick sled bag 3.5 tog you can get them in Asda twin pack for about £20.

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 28/10/2020 23:14

Sleep* I know we're coming into winter but my auto correct is taking it a bit too far when it corrected sleep to sled. Grin

noenergy · 29/10/2020 06:46

When younger I used sleeping bags now they are older they wear fleecy onesies or pyjamas as they still throw the blanket off.

PandemicPalava · 29/10/2020 06:50

Baby sleeping bags are amazing! Only way my dd ever slept through

hannjocelyn · 29/10/2020 11:23

@Fatted my baby isn't left alone with a bottle, I didn't mention that as it's not relevant to the post. I stay in his room while he drinks, he will still throw them out regardless if I'm in there or not.

@dementedpixie he's 19 months. I started giving him a pillow around 16 months.

I have bought a grow bag. He used to have one when he was a tiny baby, but as he grew he would fight to get out of them, but we will see how we get on with it again
