Talk to me about sleepyheads : all about throwing money at problem

My 17wk old won’t sleep much. Up every couple of hours in night like clock work. I can settle him back down quickly with a feed but just so tired. Been going on for at least three weeks so guessing not 4mo regression.

Keep hearing good things about sleepyheads and now v tempted. Would ppl recommend? And does anyone have any views on whether ok to buy second hand?

So ready to try anything right about now

Thank you 🙏

I had one for dc2. Brilliant. He was massive bit slept in it til about 10 months! It was second hand but immaculate.

Also, 4 month regression can go on and on, sorry .

le42 · 18/03/2019 22:34

We have one which my baby likes to sleep in during the day... I would try to get a larger one if you do invest... my 7 week old is really long can’t see it lasting a long time at the standard size.

SospanFrangipan · 18/03/2019 22:39

We bought a babydan sleep pod when DS was 12 weeks old. He slept through from the first night he went in it! They're roughly £45 on amazon, and I would absolutely recommend. We then got the sleepyhead grand for transitioning into the cot, which worked brilliantly. Definitely worth the money to get some sleep!

WhereIsMyTVRemote · 18/03/2019 22:42

I got one at 9 months after a looonnng time of no sleep. Worked a charm. This was the grand though, no experience of the smaller one.

I am a bit jealous and think they should make adult ones.

wearie · 18/03/2019 22:48

Thanks so much everyone. Impressed that so far everyone rating it. Waiting for someone to say, 'didn't make a bit of difference', what I would pay for more than two hours sleep right about now

're the size - I emailed the manufacturer as my son was, frankly, massive . Almost 11lbs at birth and long. The sleepyhead is recommended up to 8 months but they said use it as long as he is comfy. He ended up sleeping with his legs hanging over the bottom bit at 10 months, but his shoulders were getting squished. That's when we stoped using it.

Oct18mummy · 18/03/2019 22:54

It didn’t help us had the sleepyhead and now he is too big for it, we are 20 weeks and he also sleep regressed same time as you it’s hard feel your pain! Also HV and midwifes in my area are really anti sleepyheads as in letting them sleep in them overnight - perhaps that’s why my anxieties I didn’t use it as often as others

arisfurwi · 18/03/2019 23:02

Was fab for me! Used it for ages and total game changer

wearie · 18/03/2019 23:05

See a game changer is exactly what I need right about now.

Not convinced it will help but almost willing to give anything a go.

Bit confused about sizes though. As my wee one only 17 weeks thinking I'd need to get smaller size and just hope it lasts us a bit of time.

Nice to have a bit of hope even if it ends up disappointing 😜

You need to read up about the safety.

Very basic article here: www.lullabytrust.org.uk/the-lullaby-trust-issues-warning-about-some-popular-baby-sleeping-products-sold-in-high-street-stores/

gt84 · 18/03/2019 23:14

I didn’t think it was safe for babies to sleep in these unattended (whilst you are also sleeping)

RLOU30 · 18/03/2019 23:15

Lots of people have told me their babies only sleep in them they are for 0-6 months and then you can get the bigger size.
To see if your little one likes it try rolling some towels in the shape and tucking a blanket over them

Njh1986 · 19/03/2019 06:23

Mine adores hers - had it since 6 weeks and it’s made a world of difference. She now self settles to sleep after a bath and with a full tummy, by rubbing her cheek against the side. Gone from 3 hourly night feeds to 6.30-6.30 with usually only a 1am feed.

Also highly recommend a MyHummy - like baby hypnosis!

wearie · 19/03/2019 10:17

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm really torn about whether to give it a go or not.... a lot of money but if it did make a difference every penny would be worth it and then some!

SS1987 · 19/03/2019 13:44

Brilliant... until you try and get baby to sleep without it 😩 my LO has been in hers for 5 months and now doesn’t understand sleeping anywhere else. Nightmare when we were at peoples houses and she needed a nap!

Njh1986 · 19/03/2019 16:28

SS1987 - yes I do worry about this when it comes to her outgrowing it. She will nap in other places though - buggy, car seat and baby swing so hopefully this will continue as she gets older 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

namechangerooey · 19/03/2019 20:56

Sleepyhead was a game changer for my DC1 but not for my DC2! Perhaps I had less patience with the second tho Grin

DaddysGirl36 · 20/03/2019 08:11

Hands down the best thing I ever bought. Our son would sleep in it pretty much all day. We didn't use it at night. We took it on holiday with us.

I will admit naps were difficult without it (we stopped using once he started rolling) but only because we had a habit of letting him fall asleep in our arms before putting him in sleepyhead. If you get into the habit of putting the baby down awake then this will help naps later down the line.

We have kept ours for DC2

Sparrowlegs248 · 20/03/2019 14:26

I never had a problem transitioning although he does like to snuggle up to something. Which is kind of the point really.

SoyDora · 20/03/2019 14:28

It didn’t work for us unfortunately.

Thatsnotmyotter · 20/03/2019 14:33

Our ‘four month sleep regression’ lasted 3 months. I think we’re hopefully out of the other side now at 6.5 months old.

We bought a sleepyhead a few weeks ago as he was screaming every time we put him down in the cot. It has helped him settle down better and he is gradually lengthening his sleeping periods (he’s gone from waking up 1-1.5 hourly to 3-4 hourly, hurrah!) but I think a lot of that is just being a bit more developmentally ready!

wearie · 20/03/2019 20:17

Thatsnotmyotter well done for getting through the sleep regression. It's just horrid! I feel like I'm almost losing my mind with it. Just beyond exhausted.

Sounds like there's a lot of love for sleepyheads so am sorely tempted. Thing for me though would be that I would want to use it during the night but I think that's not really advised. Is that right? Is it still pretty come to use it in their cots / next to mes etc...

OP posts:
Njh1986 · 20/03/2019 20:44

I’ll hold my hand up and say that I do use it in the crib, but I weighed up the risks vs my overtired baby wriggling all over and banging her head on the side of it

Bananarama12 · 20/03/2019 20:48

I used it at night and it will fit baby for a long time. Whoever said about baby legs hanging over the end of it, did you not know you un clip the bottom when they grow? Confused
