Cold night- what does he wear?!

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:39

Can someone please tell me what my 3 month old should be wearing for bed? The room at the moment is around 19-20 degrees.
He's in a full body sleep suit and blanket. But In the night his hands were so cold and his body could have been warmer.

I'm so scared to over heat him!!
I'm going to invest in the grobags tomorrow! But just want an idea what he should be wearing so he's not too hot or cold.

Thank you 😊

Definitely get Grobags and then check their “what to wear” chart online. Makes it easy.
But if your child is sleeping then they are warm
Enough.. they will wake if too cold! Equally, don’t over heat them. I would say at that temp a full babygro with a blanket folded in half would be fine

Oly5 · 23/09/2018 21:45

Only bring the blanket up to the waist and tuck it under the mattress so he can’t pull it up

ThePricklySheep · 23/09/2018 21:46

Remember that their hands are meant to be freezing Smile
I also used to use the grobag chart, with an extra vest I think.

dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 21:47

Does he have a vest on under the sleepsuit? Add a sheet or another blanket of you think they are cold

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:47

@Oly5
Thank you! Just put him down to sleep and worrying that he's too cold...x

And you can find the what to wear charts by googling, if you want a non branded sleeping bag.
There are actual charts or

gro.co.uk/what-to-wear/

I doubt he is cold. 18c is optimal for a baby’s room.

Northernbeachbum · 23/09/2018 21:50

Having the same issue with knowing what to put on DS whos a similar age, being born in such a hot summer he now loves being very warm and wakes up cold incredibly easily!!

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:50

@dementedpixie
No just a sleep suit and a blanket. Room temp says 19.2

From Mothercare website:

Sheets
24°C/75°F - 1 sheet only
21°C/70°F - 1 sheet plus 1 layer of blanket
18°C/65°F - 1 sheet plus 2 layers of blanket
15°C/60°F - 1 sheet plus 3 layers of blanket

don’t forget – if the blanket is folded over it counts as 2 layers!

Oly5 · 23/09/2018 21:50

He’ll wake up endlessly if he’s cold. Don’t worry, I think a full babygro and blanket sounds ok.
Try TK Maxx for grobags at cjeaper prices. The link above tells you what to dress them in for the Grobag

SpikyCactus · 23/09/2018 21:52

Sleepsuit and vest inside a 2.5 tog Grobag. Plus an extra blanket if it’s really freezing. If he’s still icy I bring him into my bed.

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:53

Thank you all....

Temperature will drop overnight. I always put mine in a vest and sleepsuit plus grobag. I don't think a sleepsuit and 1 blanket will be enough as it gets colder

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:57

@dementedpixie
Do you use a 2.5 tog?

OP posts:
Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 21:59

@Oly5 thank you. I'm really worried I'm doing it wrong.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 22:02

Yes I used to use 2.5tog. 2.5tog is equivalent to a sheet and 2 blankets

hamburgers · 23/09/2018 22:03

If it's 19C I'd probably put a vest on underneath the sleepsuit and then his blanket.

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 22:04

@dementedpixie
Thank you. He's in a full sleep suit... and his blanket is doubled up.
Worst feeling not knowing if I'm doing it right.

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 22:05

@hamburgers
Short sleeved suit under his full sleep suit? Even with a doubled up blanket? X

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 22:07

It's either put a vest underneath the sleepsuit or use a sheet plus the folded blanket. Depends if your baby runs hot too though (my ds was a sweaty sleeper)

dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 22:09

A general rule is that they wear 1 layer more than you, so if you have pjs on then they have a sleepsuit plus 1 more layer e.g. a short sleeved vest

thisisnotmyname87 · 23/09/2018 22:12

I have a six month old and she's in a long sleeve vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5tog sleeping bag. It is 20 degrees in her room at the moment but we are thinking of getting a 3.5tog sleeping bag for when the temperature drops even more.. look in supermarkets etc they have some lovely sleeping bags. No need to pay the extra money just for the brand, just make sure they're 2.5tog as some places like Matalan sell mainly 1tog Smile

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 22:12

Okay thank you. So the sleepsuit and double blanket should be fine x

jomaIone · 23/09/2018 22:15

Definitely get yourself to tk max for sleeping bags!! Saves all the hassle.

19.2 isn't really that cold. As others have said he'll wake up if cold. His hands will feel cool too. You're not doing anything wrong, just trust your instincts. If you feel it's cold, pop an extra blanket over. But without a doubt you'll not look back if you get sleeping bags!
