Cold night- what does he wear?!

Can someone please tell me what my 3 month old should be wearing for bed? The room at the moment is around 19-20 degrees.
He's in a full body sleep suit and blanket. But In the night his hands were so cold and his body could have been warmer.

I'm so scared to over heat him!!
I'm going to invest in the grobags tomorrow! But just want an idea what he should be wearing so he's not too hot or cold.

Thank you 😊

I wad talking about clothing layers before you even think about bedding layers (you would be in pjs and then have your duvet) so they would have an extra layer of clothing (vest and sleepsuit) and then have their bedding on

dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 22:16

If you are going for a 2.5tog grobag then the blanket equivalent is 1 sheet plus 2 blankets

jomaIone · 23/09/2018 22:17

@thisisnotmyname87

Is that not too many layers? The online chart thing says 18 - 20' and 2.5 tog is just a long sleeve vest underneath. It's 18.1 here and that's all my 5.5 month old has on and she's well cosy!

spugzbunny · 23/09/2018 22:17

My baby is 6 months and I use a 2.5 tog sleeping bag and a baby grow when the temp is 19/20. If it's 17/18 I add a vest under that. 16 and i'd add a crochet blanket on top.

Although it's dangerous to overheat, I don't think you are in that territory yet. Overheating would be a vest, a baby grow, sleeping bag and a blanket at 20C

dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 22:18

It depends on the baby too as some are colder than others.

spugzbunny · 23/09/2018 22:19

@thisisnotmyname87 I'd agree that it seems like you are putting too many layers on.

pastabest · 23/09/2018 22:20

My 3mo (DC2) is wearing a vest and a sleepsuit. She then sleeps under a thickish blanket doubled over. They are unlikely to dangerously overheat at this time of year unless you put them in sonething silly like a woolly hat and snowsuit at bedtime.

Iwantaunicorn · 23/09/2018 22:22

Mine are 7 months, they’re wearing a short sleeve vest and sleepsuit, their room temp is 19 degrees. They have a blanket which is utterly pointless because they don’t bloody stay under it, but they’re fine with that! They both hate grobags, so the heat comes on over night if the temperature drops.

meow1989 · 23/09/2018 22:25

My 3 month old is wearing a long sleeved sleepsuit and I've put him in his 2.5 tog sleep bag for the first time. He's toasty, though to be fair he's asleep on me at the moment. Room temp 19.2. Previously I've been using 1 or 1.9 tog and a long sleeved sleep suit but I think it's chilly tonight and with the former though he didn't wake he stirred and his hands and face felt cool. I do have to window open (other side of the room to the cot) as well.

Poppy1989 · 23/09/2018 22:34

@meow1989
I'm deff going to buy the sleep bags tomorrow first thing!
It's only just got cooler... most nights in our room it's 22-23degrees so just a sleep suit and thin blanket has been fine. But now it's cooler I feel bad for not knowing x

Gro bags 👍🏼

meow1989 · 23/09/2018 22:38

I think you'll feel more confident the. @Poppy1989 ... also babies look ridiculously cute in them😍

meow1989 · 23/09/2018 22:38

Confident then, not confident the

spugzbunny · 23/09/2018 22:48

They do look ridiculously cute in them! We call it her bed dress!

Shelley54 · 23/09/2018 22:57

DS2 is 4m and since the colder nights started he’s wearing a vest under a babygro with a 1.6 (M&S) sleeping bag. In a few weeks once we switch to the winter duvet I’ll put him in a 2.5 you sleeping bag and the same clothes.

In his first weeks in the heat he slept in just a romper or vest. No sheets or anything. They cry if they’re cold and better too cold than too hot.

thisisnotmyname87 · 24/09/2018 12:04

I'm not putting too many layers on at all. I woke up this morning and her bedroom had dropped to 16 degrees. If I hadn't put the vest on she would of woke up with being cold. She sleeps through the night, nice and snug.. i'd rather that than her getting upset because she's cold 🙄 all them guidelines say different things.

Daisies1 · 24/09/2018 22:35

Put your hand on her chest. I still do it now with my 15mo. He gets a sweaty head when first sleeps but rest of him is cool, then he cools down. Apparently go on chest temperature? And I use the grobag chart thingy. I find different makes however the togs vary in actually how warm they are. Currently 20c here and using M&S 1.5tog and PJs :)
