How do you build "sleep associations", ffs?

DS (7 weeks) goes to sleep in someone's arms, veerrry occasionally his pram or the carseat. End of. I've tried doing the same patting/singing to him in his basket: no dice. Nor does he want to co-sleep.

So, if you try for an hour and they just WON'T go down and are crying because tired/frustrated, do you just keep trying? Or go back to tried-and-trusted methods??? In which case, how're they ever going to learn anything new?

if you find the shushing helps, put him in bouncy chair or moses basket and put next to the washing machine or dryer. or vacuum cleaner or put on the hairdryer.

Hi PHD

I second the suggestion about a swing, it was my savour when DD was small. ALso (not sure how you feel about these) but have you tried a dummy? After having DD attached to me for hours on end I gave her a dummy to give my boobs a rest and she had it for a few months which helped

Hi PhD: how is it going today?

LilRedWG · 06/06/2007 09:06

PHD - swaddling worked well for us.

phdlife · 06/06/2007 21:45

sorry for going mental yesterday, folks.

I do want to be "there for him" mummy, but find it v hard being human mattress all day long. He won't have a bar of swaddling - thrashes like a landed fish. He's v strong and all the throwing himself about is knackering for me when I hold him as I'm still wrecked after the birth. Still - ds only screamed 1hr tonight and dh brought me flowers, so will buck myself up. thanks, all and sorry again for bad behaviour...

Phd: no need to apologise . It does sounds like colic - DS had this and the only thing I can say is that it does go after 3 months (not much help I know)
