Blackout blinds keep the heat in - house wont cool down

I'm going to add to the 'its hot' threads.

Just wondering with this hot weather if we are the only ones abit stumped by this. Our DS goes to bed at 7pm. The blackout blinds and curtains are down (need both due to the stupid gaps at the sides) but it blocks the fresh air if the window is open. Its still 28C in DS room. I have tried leaving the windows and curtains open in the hope i could shut them before sunrise (DS will never go back to sleep if bright after 4am) but its made no difference in the temp at all. Tried opening windows all day, closing all day, you name it this past week.

We.have a celing fan which i can put on but on ifs lowest setting. We were 'advised' not to use higher settings while sleeping. It of course stays hot in the room if this fan is on but atleast feels cooler.

Anyone else struggle with the blinds

OK DS has gone down for a nap so I will try the foil thing later. Its street facing so will get the neighbours talking Grin. I have my Windows on latch btw.

Right. I've cracked and put foil on the window and attached with masking tape. It looks awful. Its pretty scruffy (its not easy is it?) So fx......

JML have brought out a AC unit last up to 6-8 hours £39.99 I have only seen it in Asda try that for little one have not bought one yet but my plan too on Tuesday wait

That's not an aircon, it is basically a fan with cold water and no where near as good (I have had both) you can get aircon for £150 from homebase.

My portable aircon will cool a room, a fan will not.

I read the reviews for the JML air con unit and they were not good. They said it smells after a while and you have to leave it running for 4 hours after using it to dry out the filters..
