8 week old refuses to sleep

Lost count at the number of times I have posted on here about DD's terrible sleep but getting really desperate!

She is 8 weeks old and has been a terrible sleeper from the start (4 weeks prem and is on ranitidine and also has colic). The last week sleep has been getting worse to the stage that I've been trying to get her to sleep tonight since 7pm. Have done the routine, feed, bath, rock then cot but no luck. She drifted off for 10mins then woke again. I've kept her in the room, no lights, shushing, feeding several more times and still she's lying here wide awake with me and crying. Have tried bringing her into the bed too.

After weeks of colic and now with sleep getting worse I feel I'm at breaking point.

Thanks @InFrance2014 that's a really good idea about getting up. I'm always nervous to go out of the room and switch lights on etc. as I always thought it will wake her up more but to be honest I couldn't have made her more awake if I'd started playing drums last night. It won't do any harm anyway.

Thank god for Mumsnet seriously! I must have posted on here about my DD and her issues countless times 🙈

Keep the faith Counter, she’s still so little and if she was premature then she’s got a bit of catching up to do too. I find it hard when I go to baby groups and there’s babies who are sleeping through 9 hours, but luckily for me my best friend keeps me strong as her baby was up every hour when she was little and now at 12 months she sleeps for 11 hours. Sometimes we’re up for an hour and a half through the night and I play on my phone or watch a program on my tablet to keep awake.

Have you got other children or can you lounge in bed with the baby in the morning? And is there anyone who could come over in the day time and entertain the baby while you have a sleep? I’ve got an eye mask and ear plugs for day time naps when my OH has a day off!

@BlueMoon33 no other children and the way DD has been there is unlikely to be anymore! So I can lie in if I need to. Although this morning we had to be up for something which was difficult.

Yes I have help from inlaws once a week/once a fortnight and they take her out for a walk so I can have a bath/sleep. My DH will take her overnight on a Friday and/or Saturday and bring her through to our spare room for feeds and get on with everything else. He sleeps through there during the week.

That’s great, it helps with your sanity! I find it a challenge when we try and get to a baby group or an appointment in the morning then I’m knackered and generally grumpy all day!

My DS has been really fussy the last few days, feeding like crazy and cries when I put him down! He’s made one of my nipples so sore that I’ve started expressing today!
