This heat! What can they sleep in?

It's 24 degrees In our room and that's the coolest room in the house. Can u put my 1 month old down in just a nappy? Terrified of her overheating. She's up every two hours so I can add clothes if needed later on.

I put mine in just a vest today as we're in the same boat. You can get muslin sleep bags which are great when it's hot but still keep them covered

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 28/05/2018 20:22

Mine's just in a vest, no blankets. Normally he has a thin sleeping bag for hot nights but think I'll leave it off tonight.

Ds slept in something like this when he was that age with just a nappy on underneath then when the it got later I would put a thin vest on him

JasperWithTheGoat · 28/05/2018 20:28

Sorry I read that as one year old 🙈 seems that ds was born in the depths of winter- thick snow and ice, I have no idea!

Just ignore me Grin

Shabeth · 28/05/2018 20:30

We've had her in a vest all day but she feels so hot! I'm scared to put her in one and fall asleep. Last night the bedroom didn't drop below 22 I was up all night checking on her.

Erm 22-24 is not that hot?

Shabeth · 28/05/2018 20:31

We have a 2.5 tog sleeping bag but the. .5 looks good we haven't managed to use ours yet!
Ha i was happy I wasn't going to pregnant over summer I'm rethinking that now

Our groegg is bright red? I thought the optimum temperature was 18 to 21

I was going to say, pretty sure ds's room is 23/24 for a fairly significant part of the year as we live in a very well insulated South facing flat. He was fine, don't stress.

Want2bSupermum · 28/05/2018 20:34

Where I live is hot and humid in the summer. When our ac broke I had my baby who was 6 months in a short sleeve onesie. If you have a fan use it. If the baby is warm or clammy put them in a room temp bath to cool them down.

freezerfoodyum · 28/05/2018 20:34

I chucked that effing gro egg and its judgmental frowny face away. If we have another I won't be buying one at all. You can tell how hot it is without one and frankly if the room is boiling then aside from a fan there isn't a huge amount to be done.

MuddyForestWalks · 28/05/2018 20:35

The muslin sleeping bags are fab. Try ebay I think, aden and anais make the ones we use.

Last year I put DS down in a nappy and tucked him in under a giant muslin when he was teeny and it got hot, because he needed something restricting him a bit.

M0reGinPlease · 28/05/2018 20:35

That's not that hot. Remember to feel a babies back to get a proper indication of how warm they feel.

I'd probably have a baby of that age in a vest and possibly a single layer sheet. Make sure she's not in a draft, near an open window etc.

BlueEyedBengal · 28/05/2018 20:37

When mine were babies at the hottest part of the summers I would put them in a vest and just a nappy or if really hot hot just a nappy was fine.

PenApple · 28/05/2018 20:39

Ds2’s (10mo) room is reading 29c, the could be higher as 29 is as high as thermometer goes.

He however doesn’t sleep well unless arms and legs are fully covered, and he’s in a sleeping bag 🤔

I wouldn’t worry too much at that temp, she might get too cold in just a nappy though. As you say you can add clothes though if she’s up all the time anyway!

Astrid2 · 28/05/2018 20:42

Groeggs are Orange up to 27' which means warm. Over 27' is too hot according to the egg and would be red.

I have my 7 week old in a long sleeve vest and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag in 20.5 in our room. The sleeping bags come with a guide to what to put on the baby in each temp which is very handy. I follow that and feel pretty confident that she'll be ok.

Bringcoffee · 28/05/2018 20:44

Ours is reading 24.7 (not unusual, our room has sun all afternoon/eve).
Our DS (5 months) is in a 1tog grobag and a long sleeve/no leg babygrow.

He always feels a bit warm when we put him down but when he wakes for feed at 1ish he never feels warm so I tend to stick with this combo.
Will switch to short sleeve and muslin sleepbag in proper summer.

Shabeth · 28/05/2018 20:44

It's really confusing they tell you all about safe sleeping temperatures and not to have fans on them so how are you supposed to cool them down. Felt her back and she feels warm but I dont know how warm is too warm 😣
Looks like vest is the popular opinion! Sticking her in one with no blanket and off to bed. Husband is up at 2 for work so plenty of chances to check her.
(yes I know I'm probably panicky for no reason)

You don't need to cool her down; she's in a warm room not running a fever.

newcupcake · 28/05/2018 21:02

My 9 month old is in a 24 degree room in a baby grow and 1 tog bag, ditch the gro egg and use your instinct , how do you feel in the room will give you a good indicator. But seriously 22-24 really isn't that warm.

freezerfoodyum · 28/05/2018 21:30

For reference OP, my two year old's room is 26 tonight and he's in a short sleeved vest with a cellular blanket.

Heartofglass12345 · 28/05/2018 21:47

My son was a baby this time 5 years ago and we had some really hot weather, we used to put him in a short sleeved vest and a sheet

YouBoggleMyMind · 29/05/2018 09:53

My DS has slept in a short sleeved gro the last couple of nights without issue, if it's cooled right down by the time we feed in the night he goes back into his 1.5 tog gro bag. His room is about 22-24c at the minute.

InFrance2014 · 29/05/2018 16:19

I have had babies in a country where it regularly topped 34C. We had them just in short-sleeve cotton vests, no sleeping bag and a thin cotton blanket over legs if there was a draught. Don't worry about 24C your baby will not overheat if they're in one layer plus a blanket or sleeping bag. Just a nappy in that temperature she will get cold quickly.
The place to feel for temperature is on the nape of their neck. If they feel hot and are sweaty you need to act. Warm, like under your own arm, is ok.

Cleo2628 · 29/05/2018 16:26

Mine just slept in a vest last night no blanket or sleeping bag :) she’s 7 months and our room gets very hot. If she’s too hot you’ll able to feel that’s she’s clammy on her back and neck. I can understand why you’re worried about your 1 month old they are still teeny!!
