Help! 8 week old keeps rolling onto his side to sleep

Please if anyone can help I’d be so grateful, I’m barely sleeping at night. My 8 week old keeps rolling onto his side when he sleeps, he’s in a Cozee co sleeper and his face ends up against the side lip that butts up against my mattress. My health visitor said it’s safe as long as he can roll back to his back, but he can’t! I’ve been tucking him in tight which has helped to pin him down until now. I’ve not had a newborn for 10 years I can’t think what to do Sad I’m constantly rolling him back all night so neither of us are sleeping well

Demand a refund because it isn't fit for purpose. Report to trading standards and the furniture ombudsman FIRA. It sounds like a tragedy waiting to happen.

Mine tilted too when attached to the bed. We detached it and used it like a separate cot but in our room and it was great - lasts longer than a Moses basket that she outgrew at 4 months

Maybe consider how much benefit you get from it being attached? Could you try having all sides up and detached but still right next to you?

ReverseSquiggly · 14/05/2018 11:15

Oh and maybe think about a sleep bag rather than blankets if they’re starting to move around? Is baby big enough for them that his head couldn’t disappear inside neck?

When my daughter started going in her side she was moving around 360 degrees in the cot soon just by shuffling and it’s such s good job we’d already moved away from blankets. One time I got up in the night and her head was at the other end to where I’d put it she’d shuffled right round!

I have contacted Tutti via their Facebook page, I won’t take no for an answer this time. It still tilts slightly with the sides up but not so much so I might have to use it as a normal crib which completely defeats the object! Not happy. I used sleeping bags until I had to start tucking him in tight to stop him rolling. Now he’s stronger/heavier I’ll have to try again as his 1 tog was too big.

Gosh, I'm wondering if we should direct Tutti Bambini to this thread so they can see just how many people have had exactly the same issue. It's not good is it?

HeavyMetalMama · 14/05/2018 20:06

I think you’re on to something, @mummabubs! It’s such a beautiful crib and not cheap! But it’s hardly fit for purpose - I wonder if there’s anyone not having trouble!

mummabubs · 14/05/2018 21:14

And to add as others have said both the ones we've had tilt whether they're attached to the bed or not.

HeavyMetalMama · 14/05/2018 22:06

It’s awful, he’s in a travel cot with bassinet for daytime naps and I feel safer with that! Not sure they’d do anything as I’ve had it for months but only just used it? Still no reply it’s disgusting!

They ignored my message all day it I told them last night I’m reporting it and got a reply first thing this morning asking me for my phone number to chase it up.

Can’t wait to hear what they’ve got to say!

mummabubs · 15/05/2018 13:24

So... update!

I messaged TB via their Facebook page last night asking for an official response and sent the link to this thread. Fast forward to half an hour ago and much to my surprise the director of Tutti Bambini called me. He was also obviously keen to reassure people who have this issue. They are aware that on the higher setting (level 6) there can be a tilt on the drop side. I did explain that I've also experienced this to a lesser extent on the other side and that we still have a tilt even at level 1. He offered to exchange my CoZee for another but I relayed that we've already done this once and there's still an issue. He said that they've sold 33,000 units worldwide (I think implying that this is not a problem affecting all CoZees). He is visiting the production factory in the near future and they will be considering whether any improvements/changes to the design are necessary.

He was very polite and did say if anyone wants to talk with him about this he's happy to be contacted. (Facebook message was easiest way for me). So no immediate change/resolution but hopefully they will consider changing the frame so it can't be tilted in future. (I also expressed how terrible a lot of people had found dealing with Mothercare- there's another thread on MN just about the CoZee and Mothercare's lack of customer service!)

Murane · 15/05/2018 14:16

If they have acknowledged it as a known fault can you not claim a refund from Mothercare?

mummabubs · 15/05/2018 14:55

Not sure, maybe contact and ask? I said that we'd already had a second one so didn't want an exchange and our little one is 6 months old so about to grow out of it. (We've been using a towel stuffed between the frame and the bambini since the second week). I did say for £200 I would have expected better but wasn't offered a refund so I'm not sure?

mummabubs · 15/05/2018 14:56

He also said he'd found evidence of the Chico Next 2 Me having the same issue.... not sure whether that was supposed to imply that therefore it's ok that the CoZee does it? 🙈

NoodleKT · 15/05/2018 17:42

Will double check the Chicco we have tonight but I've not noticed any issues or heard about it from other users Hmm

HeavyMetalMama · 15/05/2018 18:07

Sounds like a cop out to me - why have a setting that’s dangerous? Guidelines are baby on their back at the foot of the crib, not baby on their side nose mushed into crib. I’ve folded some muslins and tucked them under the mattress to even it out which did help a lot but as you say for the money you’d expect better! Didn’t have time for w a phone call today but their technical director is apparently giving me a call at some point. Not sure what good it’ll actually do.

OP posts:
mummabubs · 16/05/2018 09:24

I think the key is making sure voices are heard, I explained to him that I'd been surprised and a bit disappointed with the initial response that they weren't aware of this when the director was very open in saying that they are aware of it. (Forgot to mention that he did emphasise that it had passed safety tests at all levels). Still not great when you're a new parent and don't want your little one to risk suffocation due to a tilting product but I did appreciate the phone call. I feel actions will speak louder than words if Tutti Bambini do decide to alter the design.

HeavyMetalMama · 16/05/2018 14:33

@mummabubs I think having us both contact with the same problems at the same time has made a difference. This morning I was offered either a refund or a new one when the next line comes out in the next few weeks as they say the new ones won’t have this problem. Strange considering apparently they didn’t have a problem Hmm I’ve opted for the replacement as bub will still need somewhere to sleep and I don’t have the space for my travel cot in my bedroom even though he sleeps much better in it because he’s not rolling! I’ve also asked that they address the big problem with customer service and mothercare, to which they agreed to pass it on to the relevant departments. Thank you for your help!

mummabubs · 16/05/2018 15:27

Not at all, I'll also be asking for the new range in that case.

Thank you!

HeavyMetalMama · 16/05/2018 23:56

@mummabubs good luck with it and keep me updated!

OP posts:
mummabubs · 17/05/2018 19:38

Messaged Tutti Bambini again and they're going to send me another one in a few weeks too. They said that the new ones won't have the tilting problem so fingers crossed! 😊

HeavyMetalMama · 17/05/2018 19:49

@mummabubs so they’re admitting fault- there should be an urgent recall really!

OP posts:
mummabubs · 17/05/2018 23:39

I'd say there could be an argument for that, although I felt that the director was trying to say that this doesn't affect all of them given the high sales figures and relatively few formal complaints about it? I don't think it can be just one batch that was affected though as there was nearly 5 months between us buying the first one and then being send out a second one. I also wonder if there's a bit of a communication gap as the director said they'd be going to the factory and discussing in the future whether the design needs to be changed to fix this... but then you and I have both been told that the problem's already been fixed in this new batch?! Very odd. I just hope they're right!

mummabubs · 16/06/2018 22:58

Hi @HeavyMetalMama, can I just ask did you get the replacement in the end and was the issue resolved? It's been a month and I'm still waiting to hear back as to when I'll be receiving a new one- I'm keen to know how the tilt has been resolved/if it actually has! Hope your little one is sleeping a bit better now!

TwinkleMerrick · 17/06/2018 10:37

Could you put something under the crib mattress to lift it slightly? Maybe a rolled up muslin/hand towel? If not maybe get a Second hand Moses basket and give up on the side bed.
