have YOU ever lied about your baby sleeping through?

Interestingly, someone pointed out that most people who say their babies sleep through at mother and baby groups lie.

I am putting so much pressure on myself to get ds to sleep through, as it appears everyone else is getting a good night's sleep (as well as the fact I feel like a zombie most days..) by 3 - 4 months.

So, did you lie about your baby's sleep habits at mother baby / NCT / post natal groups?

no cos i wanted the sympathy for lack of sleep!
some people's idea of "right through" is a bit odd....i've heard people say this when kid has slept 11 till 5 - not my idea of all night!

ratfly · 01/05/2007 19:34

I guess I could say mine sleeps 7pm - 7am.
I could just leave out the bit about him waking up every 2 hours

i guess i do lie, because i say they've slept thru even tho they've woken for a drink. I always felt like if they settled straight back to sleep and i'd only been up 15 minutes or so then that didn't really count

hayes · 01/05/2007 19:35

why would ppl lie? lol

nickytwotimes · 01/05/2007 19:35

lol ratfly!

funnypeculiar · 01/05/2007 19:35

No, I didn't.
But then we had a special 'circle of sleep hell' at ever mum & toddler/NCT group I went to....we only let true suffers in ...

SenoraPostrophe · 01/05/2007 19:36

why would you lie about that? Other than to say they woke up more than they did in order to guilt trip dh/dp into giving you a lie in?

mummytosteven · 01/05/2007 19:37

No. But then my definition of sleeping through was 12 - 7, 11 - 6 sort of thing - i.e. a solid 7 or 8 hour kip for me

lucykate · 01/05/2007 19:38

no, the bags under my eyes speak for themselves

Apparantly mine is the only one at M&B group (13 mothers)that doesn't sleep through. After hearing about my little angel, I'm surprised anyone feels the need to lie and make themselves feel better...

FrayedKnot · 01/05/2007 19:41

No need for me to lie, I still have the bags under my eyes from DS first year, even though he has slept through for the past 2 years.

And by sleeping through I mean 7-7 without a peep...or 6.30 lately [grrr]

No idea about whethe anyone lied to me..i seem to remember mostly a sort of inverse bragging about who had had the least sleep

Hmm, i have played down the problem to my granny and to two friends who insist on giving me loads of unwanted advice on how to make them sleep through (both friends children slept through - 12/13 hours from a very early age). This is just to make my life easier - have never lied at baby group or NCT get-togethers etc.

NadineBaggott · 01/05/2007 19:47

why on earth would you?

MrsApron · 01/05/2007 19:47

oh dear god yes. By about 9-10 months when the unsolicitated advice/bossiness/general being told what to do was getting too much for my sleep deprived brain.

It was lie or go totally ott mental at some unsuspecting mother.

MrsApron · 01/05/2007 19:48
JARM · 01/05/2007 19:49

Nope.

Totally honest in the fact that Jessica didnt sleep through until Rebecca was born (she was 15mnths)

And with Rebecca, we hit GOLD.... 6/7 weeks and she was 6am-6pm - other than the odd night when she was teething later on.

Im not smug about it, as 15 months of being up 3/4 times a night was knackering.

FrayedKnot · 01/05/2007 19:49

Oh yes I totaly agree about lying when in the presence of someone whom you might feel teh desire to stick red hot needles in their eyes if they give you one more snippet of their terribly useful advice.

Seems fairer all round.

pointydog · 01/05/2007 20:01

no.

never occurred to me other people would, either.

berolina · 01/05/2007 20:03

nope. I sort of think it's important to help dissipate inaccurate ideas of babies routinely sleeping through at ridiculously young ages. I have grinned and borne 'useful' advice offered thereupon

ekra · 01/05/2007 20:11

No - I didn't lie but I did feel immense pressure to have dd1 sleeping through the night because everyone else's baby from my antenatal group was sleeping through the night much sooner so I can sympathise with your plight.

popsycal · 01/05/2007 20:11

no hahahaha
