Cry it out at 9 weeks

Hi all,

I have a baby who will not sleep on his back at all, since birth I have tried day and night using side cot, sleepy head, 4 different types of swaddle , dummy, bouncing chair and nothing works. He sleeps fine on chest, car seat or being held. Has bad wind and reflux which is contributing but also whenever I put him down and he is settled he is wide awake after 60 seconds and then it takes me an hour and a half to re settle.

He ends up being over tierd and when I tried not to hold etc for 2 weeks during the day he was fussy non stop as had no decent sleep.

He has never slept more than 2 hours since birth either and is mostly 45min/1hr.

2 weeks ago the health visitor came and told me to do cry it out and go back every 15mins. Has anyone done this at this age? What is the reccomended age ?

My parents let me 'cry it out.' Turns out I had horrific ear infections and that's why I wouldn't stop crying. Now I have heading problems in both ears.

Bit of a worst case scenario but please don't use this technique. It's not really recommended anymore...... (or at least it shouldn't be...)

Also front sleeping causes baby to breathe same air in and out again I have been told.

I have had him on my chest recently.

Try cranial osteopathy, teething gel, changing milk, Infacol etc. But do not leave a 9 week old to cry for more than a minute or two.
It’s how they communicate their needs. They cannot speak to you, shout or ask, they can only scream and cry.

My reflux baby slept on his side from 2 weeks old. It was that or no sleep.

DS1 slept on his side from a few days old. He had bad reflux and his was the only way to keep him comfy without being held. I used rolled up blankets and towels to keep him in position. Good luck OP

My 4 week baby doesn't like sleeping on her back in Moses or in pram however she will when in bed next to me so we do safe co-sleeping i.e. It's just me and baby in bed, no pillows/ duvets near her. I know it's not for everyone but Both of us sleep really well between feeds and I really enjoy that closeness. They don't stay tiny for long and you miss the cuddles when there older! Hope you get some more sleep very soon!

Oh and don't worry about them then always being in your bed, I did the same with my eldest and she transitioned to cot in own room at 5 months with no problems!

Just no. This would be cruel and neglectful. I’d report the HV

I had one of these, coslept very happily and i wish I'd done it sooner.

I would say that you shouldn’t swaddle and place a baby on their front. This increase SIDS risk.

If you do swaddle then the Gro Company zip swaddles are amazing. DD was so snuggly in them. She slept in a co-sleeper and very quickly settled in one.

Absolutely not. It is crucial that you respond to your baby when he cries in the first two months of life as he is learning to trust you and bond with you. When he cries and your respond he begins to gain trust, reassurance, and also bond with you. Ive studied child development in uni and it's what I've been taught

Cranial osteopathy worked wonders for my reflux / food allergy little one. He spent nights sleeping on my chest in the rocking chair as he just screamed as soon as he was laid on his back.
