Are the co sleeping cribs worth the money?

Last time she had her own Cot in on our room but she really just ended up on my side of the bed and I was so paranoid for her safety. This time I'd like to get a clip on Cot but not sure if they're worth the money. I'd probably get a second hand one but even they are pricy.

Found it worth every penny until dd was 6 months and went into her own cot bed. Actually I think it helped her make that move as well so I wouldn't be without one next time. I'm sure they're like everything though and it depends how you use them.

needtimewithwineandlesswhine · 05/09/2017 07:41

I have one that I use for peace of mind more than anything - she still sleeps at my side and shows no side of wanting to be anywhere else. I am still really glad I got it as haven't worried about her falling out the bed like I did with my Ds. And they can sell on for a reasonable amount so that how I justified the price.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 07:45

Considering I just used a regular cot with the side taken off and lashed onto my bed frame with ratchet straps, I'd say no.

crazypenguinlady · 05/09/2017 07:45

Absolutely. We barely slept until baby was 6 weeks old as he refused to sleep in the crib
We had some success with a Moses basket but not much. We bought the cosleeper crib and DS settles into it well, which meant we all got some sleep! He's just turned 6 months old and very long so he's outgrown it now. We are switching him to his cot this weekend.

We'll definitely use to from birth next time, especially as I plan to breastfeed for longer so will make life easier all round.

Definitely worth the money for us.

I loved mine (snuz pod) but my baby grew super quick and slept like a star fish from about 4 months. So if I have the space next time i would consider just getting a cot with one side off and strapping it to the bed. My DD has ended up in bed with me anyway (and my DP in the spare room). Now the snuzpod is just used as a very expensive bed guard and handy storage for blankets.

orangeowls · 05/09/2017 07:47

I have a nexttome and it is amazing. I would 100% recommend it to anyone - that and the sleepyhead, which is also brilliant!

RedBlackberries · 05/09/2017 07:52

That's a big thumbs up. There's one on the boots website that's a bit cheaper.

I loved our snuzpod dearly, it was the best investment we made for #2. and I'm selling it so if you're in Yorkshire give me a shout Wink

RedBlackberries · 05/09/2017 08:11

Ahh sadly not butbif anyone reading this is in Suffolk I'd be very interested in buying second hand!

Honestly, I think you're better off with a full sized cot with the side off attached to your bed as the poster above described. All the advantages of an expensive sidecar crib, but they won't grow out of it at six months! A 'proper' bedside crib won't do anything for you that you won't get out of that arrangement.

riddles26 · 05/09/2017 08:41

We also had next2me and it was worth every penny. Could be tilted which helped her digestion plus doubled as a travel cot when we went away or stayed with parents for a few nights. Lasted until just before she turned 7 months.

We inherited a full size cot but this didn't have different mattress heights so couldn't be used as a sidecar crib. Worth considering this as an option too if it works for you

FATEdestiny · 05/09/2017 08:42

Full sized cot with one side removed.

Much more room to physically lie alongside baby in the cot and cuddle close. I don't think I could fit the whole of my torso into a bedside crib and encircle newborn in the close cuddles that many need. I used to often wake in the middle of the night with my head and shoulders inside the bedside cot.

Keeps baby in the cot, means I get my own space in the bed and also allows in-situ cuddling if baby needs you close. The full sized sidecar cot is a win-win-win for everyone involved.

PerpetualStudent · 05/09/2017 08:46

You can rent bednests for about £80 - 6 month rental, but they let you keep it pretty much as long as you need it.

NameChange30 · 05/09/2017 08:49

If you have space in your bedroom for a full size cot with the side removed, I think that's the best option, as PPs have said, because it will last longer.

But if (like me) you have limited space in your bedroom, I do think a bedside crib is great. We have a Snuzpod but if I was buying again I would get a Cozee because they're slightly bigger and can be folded up and used as a travel cot. (It's new so it wasn't available when I bought my Snuzpod!)

We have the Snuzpod in our room and a cot bed in DS's room for when he outgrows the Snuzpod.

RedBlackberries · 05/09/2017 08:58

I'm not sure my bedrooms bi enough for a full sized Cot but it sounds like the most practical idea.

I'll google how to rent a bednest.

100% I could only breasfeed for 3 weeks but it was so handy. And that reassurance aswell. I'd recommend a sleepyhead or something similar aswell because they are so tiny to start with. X

sakura06 · 05/09/2017 09:03

We rented a bednest which was really worth it. It was baby number 2, otherwise I might have bought one. They let you keep it as long as you need it. I felt sad when I sent it back!

Lillygreen · 05/09/2017 09:04

I wouldn't recommend one if you have a c section. No good for that, as the twisting motion hurts far more than standing up and picking baby up normally.

welshweasel · 05/09/2017 09:04

We had a sleepyhead and snuzpod. Totally amazing but as PPs have suggested I'd go for a full size cot with a side removed if I had the space and wasn't going to have another (which I'm not!). We sold ours on eBay for well over half what we bought it for.

coocoovenoocroo · 05/09/2017 09:12

Yes! Next2me purchased for DC2, felt extravagant given we managed without for DC1, but so glad we got it.

RaeCJ82 · 05/09/2017 09:19

My daughter sleeps in a Tutti Bambini CoZee which is like the Chicco Next 2 Me but looks a bit nicer I think. We got ours from Mothercare at one of those expectant parents events so we got discount. I've found it invaluable. I have her right next to me without the worry of rolling over and squashing her. Plus, after nappy changing and feeding I can just pop her straight back in her crib and don't have to get up again. We justified the price because we thought we'd be able to use it for the next child but not too sure there will be a second now.

NameChange30 · 05/09/2017 09:43

I wonder if there is a small / compact cot with adjustable mattress height and removable side. That would do the same job as a bedside crib and would be cheaper. I Googled it and found the Mokee mini cot, although the description says it's not suitable for use as a sidecar cot. Maybe they're not safety tested.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 09:46

riddles we put the cot up on hardback books until the two matresses aligned.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 09:47

For compact cots, Mothercare have one. Begins with an A but I can never remember the name, even though we used it for two kids!

whichwaynow82 · 05/09/2017 09:48

Yes Next2Me was fabulous
