Is it 'normal' for a 9 month old to still wake frequently through the night?

I think all babies are different and babies sleep longer when they are ready. My husband says all his friends' babies sleep/slept through at 9 months and our baby is not normal.
I'd love to hear from any other 9 month+ frequent wakers out there that we're not alone?!

DC1 slept through regularly from about 6/7 months, with occasional wakings due to illness or later nightmares or going to the toilet. She is six now and still a good solid sleeper.

DC2 - horrendous, horrendous sleeper, which seemed to get worse rather than better. Culminated in a low point around 13/14 months when she used to wake around 1 or 2am and STAY AWAKE for hours sometimes til 5 or 6am. Happened regularly for several months and was really dreadful period!! Will never forget it. She is now 3 and still wakes up a couple times a week at night.

DC3 only 10 weeks and so far so good, only waking once or twice a night - how long it continues remains to be seen! But I cannot imagine going through the nightmare of DC2 again!!

DD3 didn't sleep through the night until she was 3

Me and DH have just got home from driving around trying to get 9 month old to sleep (we have never had to do that before). He used to do 7-4/5am bottle and back till 7:30/8am. Now he does 7-9:30pm few wake ups then 11:30-1/2am we have the crying for no reason. I say no reason as there's nothing left to try or do. He then sleeps till aBout 4, bottle, wakes up every 1/2 hour till about 7.

This started the night after he learnt to crawl. I'd give my right arm to go back to one wake up.

Your husbands friends are telling fibs!

People are not lying about babies sleeping through! Some do, some don't. I have one of each.

Hahaha! All his friends children slept from 9months, what a load of rubbish his friends talk. My first born slept through regular from 18months but still on occasion now at three he wakes during the night for a sip if water or a wee wee.

Some babies do sleep. My first one did and my second wasn't too bad.

Every baby is different and does things at their own pace. My son slept through very early on (about 4 months) and then between 7-14 months woke up every 2 hours, eventually he started to sleep through again and is now 9.5 years and hasn't woke up on the night since. He's been a late sleeper and early riser at some points too! He loves a lay in and in school holidays/weekends he will sleep in till 10 if he isn't woken up. Yet he has friends who are still waking up once or twice a Night or some that think 4am is a normal getting up time. At 9 months I don't think you need to worry too much about it.

My 2.5 year old DD only cracked it a few months ago and even now it's not guaranteed. Seem to recall around 9 months was particularly horrendous (born in April and her first Xmas/new Year were anything but magical - we were total zombies!) Also tell your OH to google 9 month sleep regression 😀😂 You will get there but with the benefit of hindsight I'd say comparing your baby to others only leads to misery!

My 9 month old wakes 2/3 times a night. My 6 year old didn't sleep through until they were 4. Completely normal, doesn't feel like it when you are dealing with it.

My daughter is 9 months tomorrow and wakes at least once a night. She goes to bed at 7pm and will wake anywhere between 1-5am for a bottle. Last night she woke around 3am for a bottle and then woke at around 7am but I didn't give her a bottle I get up at 7.30 to take my 2 year old daughter to nursery then I come home and give her breakfast and bottle. She has had the odd night when she's slept through and in September we went to the seaside for a few days and stayed in a caravan and see slept through every night 😒 we was hoping she would carry this on when we got home but nope. My 2 year old daughter slept through since she was about 4 months old. I always wonder what did I do different to help her sleep through but their isn't anything different, every baby is different and some sleep through quicker than others. Smile
