I had an app on my phone when ds was a baby. People thought I was nuts but it stopped him crying almost instantly - it was like flicking a switch! He would then calm enough to go to sleep. Was like witch craft!

White noise is our saviour, we had a Ewan the sheep which is great for naps especially the buggy but not for the night as it only lasts 20 mins and we found she would wake up when it finished. We actually downloaded a white noise app and we play rain, it works wonders and is actually a sign to my LO that it's sleepytime. We actually play ours all night as husband and I like it Grin

FTM85 · 09/07/2017 23:32

Ditto dailymail and loving your name Grin

Was wondering about a Ewan sheep- or a shusher! Would like a sroerate 'toy' so I don't have to keep phone by them (also need it for work!)

We have Ewan. DS isn't fussed but my mum finds it really helps her if she has him overnight! Grin

mortificado · 10/07/2017 00:24

Ewan is brilliant!
Although ds now 17 months has smashed the poor thing against his cot that he no longer plays right!
But he was a life saver many a night until recently

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 10/07/2017 00:28

We use the rain rain app on an old smart phone. It's terrific.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 10/07/2017 00:33

Ewan is worth every penny, IME!

youcantakethegirloutof · 10/07/2017 00:37

Rain sounds app on the phone here, tend to only need it to get her to sleep so works well. Didn't find Ewan worked for us. I put phone on airplane mode - prob unnecessary paranoia but there we go 😁

unicornpoopoop · 10/07/2017 00:52

Sound sleeper app - loads of sounds to choose from - the vacuum one worked wonders for us

Jasquers · 10/07/2017 07:04

We use the radio tuned out. Its great and lasts all night!

Wreckingball25 · 10/07/2017 07:08

Rain rain is amazing. Similar to a PP, if ours is borderline and getting grumpy, it switches her off. Helps with any noise from outside too in this hot weather with windows open as it muffles it.

fruityb · 10/07/2017 07:24

Used a white noise app which would knock Ds out on seconds. We have Ewan and he listens to him at night. The hairdryer or the hoover also worked. The day I googled white noise when Ds was newborn was the best day ever lol. It has honestly helped things so much.

Ds also liked listening to music - it would calm him down and one song in particular knocked him right out for some reason!

AlbusPercival · 10/07/2017 07:27

We have a whispbear. It plays for 40 mins then turns itself back on if Baby cries.

DS loves his and now he is older likes to cuddle it

grasspigeons · 10/07/2017 07:34

We had a fan on. Seemed to work.

Hekabe · 10/07/2017 07:52

Albuspercival Whisp bear sounds ideal! Something portable and that turns on again. Googling now...! Thanks!

We have a Ewan which is good but have heard good things about My Hummy, apparently they sense movement so turn back on whenever the baby stirs.

Allhallowseve · 10/07/2017 07:55

White noise app : sound sleeper . Lots of different choices so you aren't limited to one and can see which one works for your baby . It also is sometimes helpful to switch to a different noise if they don't stop crying with one .
I put my phone on flight mode therefore no need to worry it's near baby .

Allhallowseve · 10/07/2017 07:56

Oh and mountain river on the app had worked wonders for my two.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/07/2017 07:58

I don't struggle with sleep at all, but when I have the fan on in the bedroom I'm always out like a light and don't seem to stir until my alarm is at its loudest.

EllaHen · 10/07/2017 08:07

Dc2 was a bad sleeper. We had a womb sounds cd which worked. Also, classical music. Actually, I think we did have a white noise one.

Oh, and the music part from dc1's (hanging) mobile. It played classical tunes in that tinny way mobiles do. The sheer panic if we set off on a journey without it. Shock

Hekabe · 11/07/2017 09:41

All amazing suggestions! Hoping for something portable like a 'toy' as DC will be moving from home to office (mine) to aunties for childcare. Trying to make sure the poor thing gets settled and in a comfortable routine.

No need to buy a special white noise toy or device. Just tune a radio into static, does the job.

Hekabe · 11/07/2017 10:25

Would be ideal to only use a but Sadly Madge I can't guarantee that a radio will be present where the baby is- due to travel (my earlier post above).

I have to get back to work and if I could have something that can travel with baby to settle him or her whether at home, in my office, with the nanny or with Granny then a toy device hopefully will be a calm consistency that can travel with babe.

We used a CD of ocean / wind sounds for DS. We just popped it in his overnight bag if he was staying anywhere. I use a sleep music app myself.
