Hello! A new thread for babies who don't bloody sleep and aren't sleep trained in any way to chat/cry to each other in desperation! Grin

Just read from a very respectable source the daily fail that over tiredness causes your brain to eat itself! We're all fucked Grin

My DD is 6 months and currently only believes in sleep if it's in my bed. And so close to me that when I breathe it rocks her back to sleep Hmm

furryelephant · 28/05/2017 03:44

Hi everyone new Grin

Youvegot that's amazing! Shockhope you managed to get some rest in that time too Smileso I didn't even attempt the cot tonight BlushI'd put her on my bed while I got ready for bed and just couldn't cope with the thought of being up every hour! She fell asleep at 9, woke briefly at 10, then didn't feed until 1 Shockcurrently up feeding again now hoping it'll send her back to sleep as she's been flinging herself round the bed for a while Hmm
Sorry to hear about your lack of support too Sadit really is relentless and exhausting! But we'll probably have such a better bond with our DC as we've actually looked after them which is what keeps me going!

Freaking oh no! Is there no way of getting her in her room? Sadis there a leap or regression around 10 month? There seems to be a few of you around that stage here Shockit's horrible that feeling of dread each night wondering how it will go isn't it!

Hi join! Totally agree that one longer stretch is better than loads of short ones! I actually feel slightly human on the handful of times we managed that Grin

YouCant the trumpet? In the morning? ShockI think I'd have throttled her with it GrinI take personal offence to anyone doing any sort of noisy activity before 10am Grinand then all day long when it disturbs naps... basically everyone should know there's a baby within 100m and make no noise Grin

Speedy ah no Sadcoping is hard enough without having to concentrate all day (and attempt to look human!) I'm really dreading it! The thought of going back is the only reason why I'm tempted to claim maintenance from her useless piece of shit father as I'd have the potential to take longer off!

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 28/05/2017 13:43

How was everyone's night? We weren't woken by Sonia from Eastenders fucking trumpet next door. Winner! And she only woke three times but slept til 8:30?!!! Two of the three times she woke was because she was having a vivid dream and kept calling out "No! My shooooooes!" 😂

silkpyjamasallday · 28/05/2017 17:11

Can I join in? Currently lying in bed with 8 month old DD rubbing her eyes and yawning, but refusing to sleep! We've been here over 2 hours and she is obviously knackered as she got up from her last nap at 11 but rolling around and shouting is much more appealing apparently.

We cosleep and she is breastfed still. She used to be pretty good, but we had too many family visits that interrupted her natural sleep cycle in recent weeks and it's all gone to shit. Taking more than an hour to get her down for a nap that might only last 20 minutes. She has also stopped reliably feeding to sleep so has to be bounced and sung to (she's very partial to any winehouse and colours of the wind from Pocahontas) then I have to hover over her for another 10 minutes to make sure she is deeply asleep before creeping out. She has been staying up until 10pm, she used to go to sleep at 7.30-8 and only wake between 10-11 when DP and I go to bed. Her night sleeping isn't too bad, but she has been up and ready for the day at 5am too often recently. She doesn't even get that grumpy, but she will get annoyed if anyone other than DP or I try to interact with her.

On Christmas Eve she only woke once in the night for a feed after going to bed at 7pm and slept in until 9am, that night was absolute bliss and never again repeated. I almost wish she hadn't done it so I hadn't had a taste of what I was missing.

I reckon it is just a cycle of overtiredness as she has been teething for a long time, but as in laws just come over if I refuse to go out when it won't suit her naptimes I am going to have to deal with it for a while longer. Big family gathering tomorrow with lots of people she and I have never met before I am dreading it but as people have come from all over the world I can't really avoid it. I can deal quite well with sleep deprivation but I get so resentful of anyone other than DD making it harder for me. When do relatives get bored of babies?

TeaMuncher · 28/05/2017 18:52

Wow sorry for the late catch-up and hello all newbies 👋🏻 so good to hear I'm not the only one waking every 2hrs (and not into sleep training).

Had a 'better' night last night I think. I've stopped looking at the time when DS wakes (too depressing). But I'm sure he had a 3-4hr stint in the middle of the night last night. Fingers crossed he does it again tonight. Doesn't seem to have been very interested in milk/food today though, so I don't hold out much hope.

On another note I am getting so fed up with the MIL!!! She (amongst other highly annoying things, too many to mention) keeps referring to DS as a 'Mummy's Boy' because he cries every time she holds him or takes him out in the pram. NEWSFLASH! It's not that he wants me, he just doesn't want you!! Angry

furryelephant · 28/05/2017 19:03

Muncher a 3-4 hour stretch is great! I spent all night getting whacked by the baby who decided to be awake from 5.30-6.30 then up for the day at 7... had about 5 hours of very broken sleep Envyshe's had about 2 hours less than normal today so will see what tonight is like, she's on her 5th rubbish nap but just can't stay awake without screaming Shock

That would drive me insane! Babies get clingy around this age as they start realising you can disappear Sadshe sounds like she's about as helpful as your DH Grin

DD also not the least bit interested in food or milk today! Tried her with puree and solids and just screamed at me Envy

Pyjamas oh bless her Saddid she fall asleep eventually? I'm glad it's not just my DD who has specific preferences on songs to fall asleep to! Has she always gotten annoyed if anyone else interacts with her? That must be so difficult!
That's awful that your in laws just won't take no for an answer! Lock the door and shut the curtains? They sound like they need a serious talking to! Unfortunately I have no advice about when people get bored of babies as although I live with my family now they understand now (after a lot of angry crying from me Grin) that what I say goes, and no one else on my side of the family nor her father's (including him) are the least bit bothered Blush

YouCant that actually would just have made me laugh! I wonder what what happening in her dreams GrinI can imagine someone trying to steal your shoes would be extremely traumatic!

Furry, Speedy
No secret formula really. I think weaning helped, it gave us a more fixed routine. Breakfast/play/nap in the cot. I was also more clued up on sleep signals by then, so know when he was about ready.
He started to take a dummy at sleep time which helped to settle him, he'd never really had one until that point.
He must have cracked the self soothing as he was clearly waking and going back to sleep himself. The after-lunch nap was the longest - so I would ensure he was up by 4 pm latest so that he would sleep later on!

Youvegotafriendinme · 28/05/2017 19:34

teamuncher this made me laugh! My DS has also taken a dislike to my MIL. He hasn't liked her from day one and is even less happy with her now! I stopped saying things like 'oh he's tired' 'he's hungry' etc when she said I don't think he likes me. I just said 'no your right, I don't think he does!' And I quite like my MIL!

DS woke every 4 hours for food last night but no wake ups in between and straight to bed after. We also got an extra hour in bed, so 6:30am instead! Tonight though, he fell off the bed on to his head so as well as me feeling like the worlds worse mummy, I don't think he will sleep well and I don't blame him either!

TeaMuncher · 28/05/2017 19:51

Furry well they are cut from the same cloth! 🤔

As for weaning, I have been trying to give DS different fruits/veg but it's so hard when you have two kids! I've just bought two Annabel Karmel weaning books (on offer on Amazon). Absolutely love her recipes, but I'll never have time to cook them! Just read them whilst giving DS an Ella's pouch Blush

furryelephant · 28/05/2017 21:31

YouveGot oh don't feel bad!! Honestly I think it's a right of passage of having a growing baby that they fall off something, it seems like it happens to everyone and it's just a matter of time! Does he seem okay though? Bless him Sad

Muncher I can barely get myself fed let alone a consistent weaning pattern Blushif I've managed to eat one meal by 4pm it's a successful day ShockDD flung her head so quickly away from a spoon this evening she whacked her head on the back of the high chair Grinthen poked at some tomato and proceeded to feed it (and some brioche I gave her in desperation) to the dogs Envynothing wrong with Ella's pouches! I'm a firm believer that fed is best and continues to weaning- there's ALWAYS going to be something healthier you could feed them. And hey, they'll be eating dirt soon when they're crawling so a pouch will be the least of our worries Grin

Oli if you'd like to come and put my DD in a routine and get her napping that would be lovely GrinGrin

furryelephant · 28/05/2017 22:59

Tonight has not started off well Sadmanaged to get her asleep in her cot by 9:30pm... has since woken twice with such a horrible scream presumably from her teeth and I'm scared to put her back down as it was horrible Sad

OP posts:
Joinourclub · 28/05/2017 23:39

Good luck everyone!

Youvegotafriendinme · 29/05/2017 06:44

Decided to put DS down an hour later as normal to see if I'd get to sleep an hour later in the morning. He wasn't over tired when he went down and went to bed really well. He slept from 7:30-1. He went straight back to sleep and woke at 4:30 ready for the day! I fed him and spent an hour getting him back to sleep only for him to wake 50 mins later. So now we are up! Sad

furryelephant · 29/05/2017 07:02

Oh no youvegot Sadit's so frustrating when that happens and you're hoping for another couple of hours! After the hysterics in DDs cot she's been in my bed Hmm and no long wake ups tonight! Just many, many short ones Envy
Can 6 month olds get scared waking up by themselves, like scared or something? I had thought the hysterical crying in the cot was her teeth but it hasn't happened now she's in my bed Confused

OP posts:
Youvegotafriendinme · 29/05/2017 07:17

I feel like a walking zombie today! At this age babies are supposed to have 10-12 hours sleep a night. Last night DS got 8! Surely there's a magical solution somewhere?!
I think you might be right though. DS never used to wake up crying and now he does if he doesn't see me straight away after waking from naps. I know around 8mo they learn to miss you so maybe your on to something!
For your DDs teeth, have you tried detinox teething gel? I've found it so much better than others. I also froze a wet muslin yesterday and he seemed to love that!

One day we will get more than 3 hours sleep! Envy

MamaHanji · 29/05/2017 07:28

Can I join? My 6 month old usually naps well in the day, but we co sleep and breastfeed and she feeds roughly every 1.5-2 hours in the night. Usually 4 times a night. She slept better as a newborn! She then spends the rest of the night flaffing around and needing 18 different positions changes and cuddles to get her to sleep. I am so very tired :(

Youvegotafriendinme · 29/05/2017 07:56

mama when I tell people DS slept better when he was a new born, they look at me as if I'm on crack! I've finally found someone who agrees with me !

furryelephant · 29/05/2017 09:32

YouveGot 8 hours seems like nothing doesn't it Sadwhen DD had that recently I spent all day in trying to get her to catch up with naps but she still only ended up with about 11 hours sleep for the whole day! Just got to try not to stress too much about it, easier said than done I know! It's like they think they're abandoned when they wake up isn't it Sad
She won't let me put anything in her mouth at all anymore Envysince her gross antibiotics she clamps it shut! Think I'll have to resort to putting it on her dummy soon and hoping some gets on Grinthe wet muslin idea is a good one! She loves to chew on stuff like that Shock

Hi mama Smile** that was my DD last night too, I thought she was going to break the bedguard by flapping about so much at one point Hmm

I do have a nice little comment this morning though! After being totally fed up at not having my bed to myself all night, DD decided to wake me up for the day by putting both her hands on my cheeks and squealing at me with a smile Blusheven if she has little talon nails and it was way too loud at 8am it was very bloody cute! Grin

TeaMuncher · 29/05/2017 09:52

Youvegot & mama I'm totally there! My brother has just had a baby and already I can tell he's a sleeper. Ho hum! Confused

furryelephant · 29/05/2017 09:56

Muncher I naively thought that about DD when she was small Grinshe'd just peacefully fall asleep in my arms and slept through an entire 4 hour Christmas shopping trip in the pram at 2 weeks old. Then it all went to shit Grinno need to hate them yet Grin

OP posts:
delilabell · 29/05/2017 09:59

Please can I join? Ds(4) is brilliant. 8pm to 7am every night. Dd (1) is a nightmare. Goes down fine but them wakes between 1am and 4am every night (we almost celebrate if it's 4am) one of us ends up bringing her downstairs (for a variety of reasons then she goes to sleep om one of us. She's still in our room bevause her bedroom is through our sons so we're worried about her waking him but I'm beginning to think we just need to take the plunge.

MamaHanji · 29/05/2017 10:32

My first was a great sleeper! And I thought that was tiredness. My friend has a 2 week old baby and the other day she told me he feeds once a night...once. I part of me was amazed and pleased. The other part of me wanted I scratch her eyes out! (That was the sleep deprivation honest. We only had 2 hours sleep that night!)

It's hard because the few 2 nights she has slept a long stretch, I either spend it staring it her in worry that she isn't awake like normal, or in agony from engorged boobs!

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 29/05/2017 19:51

Hello all! 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 so DD went down at 7:30pm 😱 I nearly pissed my PJs with joy!

Then woke at 9pm

And 11:45pm

Then was up for the day at 3:40am 😫

One nap at lunch time that lasted a glorious 14 mins.

She's now in the bath and i can hear DH saying "please don't kick me in the balls!"

MamaHanji · 29/05/2017 20:57

Youcantargue Wine

I thought my day was bad. Granted only 25% of the days problems have been the children's doing. All I can say is thank god im breastfeeding of i would be paralytic drunk by now.

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 29/05/2017 21:07

@MamaHanji that's my reason for not being on the deck too 🍷

furryelephant · 29/05/2017 21:15

Hey bell! Must be such a shock having a bad sleeper after a good one! Means you know what you're missing out on Saddo you think your DD will sleep better in a separate room? Kids are such heavy sleepers your Ds might not wake Grin

Mama I know what you mean! I found any time DD slept longer than 2 hours I was awake staring checking she was alive BlushI bought a monitor that clips to her nappy as I found I literally wouldn't sleep worrying Blush

Oh youcant that sounds absolutely horrendous Sadyou must be feeling awful being up since 3.40am ShockI feel for you DH too but that made me laugh! Hope tonight is better for you Sad
