Day one of pick up put down, a tiny success story

First attempt at pick up put down this morning. Ds awake at stupid o'clock (5.30) so put him back for first nap at 8. Took 45 mins of back breaking picking up and instantly putting down BUT he nodded off in the cot, not in my arms for first time. Fingers crossed that this afternoon will take same or less time.

we had rubbish night!i really cant get back on track!we were late eating so late with everything after last night so ds missed bath etc and got dressed downstairs and put in cot with bottle-slept till 11pm then up atleast 5 times after, bottle given each time.when im doing it i know i shouldnt but through my tiredness it seems like best solution!why oh why did i ruin all that good work!
on a good point hes just gone down for a nap!

Grim. Try again tonight. I'm cheating in a way as I am giving him a bottle when he wakes at the moment as I'm worried he's low on calories after a week of sickness and diarrohea last week. Am determined bottles stop after the weekend.

Do it, it'll be worth it Kitty. Have decided to give ds til the weekend and then no more milk at 4.30 am. This morning he was only awake ten minutes, downed 7oz and then nodded off like a good boy but I then lay awake til 5.45 when he woke up again for the bloody morning. I used to have a no milk til 5am rule when he was small and I was breast feeding still so I might go back to no milk til 6am and do pick up put down until he gets the message. Have been so worried about him post tummy bug though. Mind you he's got a huge gut so there's plenty to last him.

we will wait till after weekend too as we have quite busy weekend ahead.

deaconblue · 04/03/2007 19:09

ok kittypants, tonight is the night. We've stuffed him full of food and milk all day, so he can't possibly be hungry if he wakes up in the night and I'm determined to do pupd for as long as it takes. NO MILK TIL 6a.m!!!

how is it going?
think my ds is either teething or having reaction to his jabs so were not doing anything just yet.but hes up hourly!!!not napping, poor little boy.hope its ok for you.

dd2 is 5 months and has occasionally slept from 8pm - 6am with no interruption. however, she is now going to bed earlier, between 6pm and 7pm, which means she is waking up around 4am. if we give her a bottle at that time, she drinks only about 2oz then falls asleep. is she hungry, or do you think we could just do this pu/pd thingamy??? she shares a room with dd1 (5)and i don't want to spend a long time trying to get her to calm down in case dd1 is disturbed...

Am hard, no milk, no milk at 5.19 a.m Ds picked up and put down for an hour. BUT what do you do at 6.20 when he's still screaming and it's his normal wake up and have milk time??? I gave him the bloody milk and we got up. I hope that we might have sent his body clock a message that there's no milk at that early time though. Dunno, very confusing
Nally, I think it might work. The book says if they don't drink much milk hten they are waking out of habit and pupd can break that habit. I would read the book and see what you think of her ideas but it has been a real success for us int he daytimes, we're just working on night now
