A friend of mine co-sleeps with her 1yo DD most nights. Her HV gave her a hard time about it and told her that she should be sleeping in her own bed and to use controlled crying (sound familiar? does for me!!)

As far as I know she isn't a MNer but I thought I would just show her that there are a lot of co-sleepers out there and not to feel badly about it! (and maybe bring her over to the MN side! mwah ha ha ha!!! [evil emoticon])

I'm going to let this go for a little while then link it to her. SO if you have anything negative to add - DON'T! Start your own thread. This is a warm and fuzzy thread only!! I know i can count on you all to help her feel better!

TIA!!!

I co-sleep with Dd (10 months) firstly because she wouldn't sleep in the cod and bf all the time at night. Then I enjoyed it too much to stop it and as I am back at work at least I am close to her during the night.
Also, I read somewhere that co-sleeping babies are more self-assured than babies who sleep alone. Not sure that is true but at least one argument you can use when people critisize (like my mum always does)

Both of my boys have started off nights in their own cots/beds and then come into us when they need to - usually around 1am.

DS1 stopped of his own accord when he was 3. DS2 shows no inclination of stopping yet - he's 3.5.

I like snuggling up with little people, and when they are ill, I always make sure that we sleep together, so that I am aware of any temperature changes/breathing changes.

I know that advice re. cot death has changed since mine were little, when we were advised that it was safer to sleep together. However, we keep our bedroom cool, neither boys will tolerate more than one blanket on them, and we don't drink (chance would be a fine thing!) so I know I sleep lightly and am sure I wouldn't roll over onto them (I keep them on my side, since I am not sure dh is the same! He regularly rolls onto me and has no sense of personal space whilst asleep!!) (And he snores!)

Gingerninja - the answer is to get a superking size bed then there is room for everyone!! I love it because I put the boys to bed in their own room (they have bunkbeds) and then they join me when they want to (have no idea what time because they never wake me!) I like going to bed and getting the whole bed to myself to start off with and then its lovely to all wake up together in the morning. Smiles all round!!
