When did baby go in own room?

I'm just curios as to when you put baby in their own room? Did you wait the recommended 6 months due to sids or sooner?

Our baby is 5 months but will be in with us for a good few months yet as his room hasn't been done yet

Diddlydokey · 10/08/2016 22:33

12 weeks. Noisiest sleeper ever

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 10/08/2016 22:35

4 months. I'm surprised we lasted that long tbh, he was so noisy! We all slept so much better apart from one another.

SlinkyB · 10/08/2016 22:37

Five weeks with ds1, six weeks with ds2. They're five and two now. We all slept better when they were in their own room (right next to ours, small house). All other SIDS guidelines followed.

MsDinosaur · 10/08/2016 22:39

7 months

Jayne266 · 10/08/2016 22:40

6 months

ladymelo · 10/08/2016 22:40

Babies are so noisy aren't they haha!!! I'm wondering if we would all sleep better if we were in different rooms but don't feel ready to move that far away at night Confused

6 months. She'd started stirring more easily - when we came to bed, when we stirred etc then woke demanding to be fed! She slept better and so did we.

Tumtitum · 10/08/2016 22:44

4.5 months, kind of by accident. We started putting her in her nursery for naps and evenings and when she woke we'd love her in with us. Then she stopped waking until 4am! We are now on holiday however and she is 6 months and waking all the damn time so who knows where she will be when we get back home!! Before she moved I couldn't imagine her being in a different room (she was in our bed before) so I think you have to be emotionally ready for it more than anything!! And I would definitely wait 4 months as Sids risks are far lower then

Itsnottheendoftheworld · 10/08/2016 22:44

11 months. Wish I had done it at 6. She finally started sleeping through as soon as she was in her own room.

NapQueen · 10/08/2016 22:44

Overnight about 6 months for dd and 18 months for DS (went in with his sister so had to wait till he was able to not wake her up)

Daytime sleeps in rooms without us from 8 weeks and they both went to bed at 7pm in our room and we didn't go in til about 11

Breadwidow · 10/08/2016 22:45

Er, 2 years plus.

Tried to move #1 at 6 months. He lasted a bit, but then was in our bed every night so relented and sorted cosleeping situ to take him through the larger baby stage (side car full size cot). Tried to move him again at 18 months ish, still in our bed a lot. Didn't sleep consistently through the night in his own room stil at least 2.5

With number #2 I've not tried shifting her yet, she's nearly 2.

Weakbladder · 10/08/2016 22:45

My 2.3 year old is still in our room and will be till I feel he's ready for it, he still doesn't sleep through either up about 3 times a night. Easier than walking across the landing for us Grin

ladymelo · 10/08/2016 22:49

Yeah I think it's more for me being emotionally ready!! Did anyone use a monitor whilst baby in other room at all?

RiverTam · 10/08/2016 22:50

6 months, I was a stickler for doing things at the recommended time. At 4 months I couldn't imagine not having her in our room, by 6 I was ready for her to go!

MrsJusticeCunt · 10/08/2016 22:50

4 weeks. No one was sleeping.

RiverTam · 10/08/2016 22:50

We had a monitor in her room for ages.

Tumtitum · 10/08/2016 22:51

Yep monitor with sound and video and temperature. I wouldn't be comfortable not being able to see her!! I can hear her all over the house if she cries so that's not a problem ;)

WasDat · 10/08/2016 22:55

8 weeks. We all slept better. He was as close to us in his own room as he was in his cot in our room conveniently forgetting the wall in between.

ladymelo · 10/08/2016 22:55

I don't think I would be comfortable not being able to see baby either lol!! I've just read up Sids guidelines again to refresh and it says not to sleep in bed with baby? Isn't this just co sleeping?

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 10/08/2016 22:56

Had a monitor but muted it at night. It beeped if he cried, but his bedroom is mere steps away, so I always heard him anyway. The monitor disturbed me as much as he did when he was in the room.
Being in separate rooms gave me the opportunity to see if he would go back to sleep himself before I leapt up to see to him, as I was doing when his cot was next to my bed.
Do what's right for you and your baby.

ladymelo · 10/08/2016 23:01

That's a good point peace I do tend to go straight to him when he stirs or about to cry as trying not to wake hubby on work night! Hmm it's a lot to think about!!Confused

Own room around 5 months - was in Moses basket until then and changed to travel cot in our room when Basket got too small but travel cot didn't work out. I wasn't ready for her to move from our room but turned out to be the right thing for all of us. Video monitor with sensor pad until recently when pad stopped working so just video monitor now. Dd is 21 months now and in toddler bed in own room. Have had spells of co-sleeping in our bed due to sickness which took some perseverance to break but all good at the moment.

SlinkyB · 10/08/2016 23:22

How old is he OP?

I think a lot depends on what baby you have and what sort of parent you are. Mine were happy to go in own room at a few weeks old (no monitor as room right next to ours, and doors open). They were also mostly formula fed, and I'm a bit feed/wind/cuddle/change/put them down. Didn't do co-sleeping, baby wearing, AP, BLW etc. Did do sleep training shoot me now

If you're too anxious moving him now then don't do it.

BossWitch · 10/08/2016 23:29

4 weeks Blush

I was about to crack. We slept better - roomso adjoin so felt still close enough - and she's been a great sleeper since about 10 weeks to now (2.5yrs)
