When did baby go in own room?

I'm just curios as to when you put baby in their own room? Did you wait the recommended 6 months due to sids or sooner?

He's only 6 weeks old, I was just curious as to when some people did it! I know I'm not ready for it yet he's in a 'next to me' cot and I can't even turn the other way in bed haha first time mum BlushI'd like to think I will go the 6 month guideline but just curious Smile

I've had a child sleeping in my room for 15 years! Youngest is 2.6 & will be with me for another few months!

Geraniumred · 10/08/2016 23:36

Two days! I'm a really light sleeper and she was noisy. Her room was just a few steps away though.

6 weeks and 9 weeks. Would've been sooner for both but we moved house when ds1 was 6 weeks and kept ds2 longer as ds1 was at school, not fair to wake him with feeds etc!

5 days for DD and. 2 days for DS - basically went straight in on their first night home from hospital. I was a stickler for all the other rules but that was one we never intended to stick to - though had a little wobble about it the first night. Basically I knew I would be up regularly BFing and that if DH's sleep was disturbed too much he would be unbearable. To be honest I spent so much of the night BFing and trying to settle them for the first few weeks (DD) and months (DS) that they weren't exactly alone in their rooms very much. In the early days, their night time sleeps were shorter than most DC's daytime naps! Worked for us but appreciate we would have felt differently if anything had happened.

I think it was 6 weeks with Dd and 4 weeks with ds, I got no sleep until we moved them because every little noise and snuffle I was peering into the crib Grin because I just couldn't relax. You'll know when the rimes right op, I really couldn't imagine have them in with me at 2 years!!!!

Six months. Gosh seems so long ago now!

iemma321q · 10/08/2016 23:53

8 months

Co sleeping is advised against if you don't do it safely, but if you cosleep safely it's safer than own room in terms of SIDs. Side car cot is a great solution as no shared sleeping space. Xx

chocolatecakemakesmefat · 11/08/2016 08:14

Ds1 was 13 months he had health problems though so that's why we kept him in with us , DD was 6 weeks she slept so much better in her own room!

Safyre · 11/08/2016 08:34

With DS1, 4.5 months when he grew out the Moses basket. He was a good sleeper though (6-7 hours at night from 4 weeks). Had a baby alarm even though he was next door to us.

DS2 went in with DS1 at 3 months when we went on holiday and there was no space in our room for the travel cot. He slept so much better the week we were away that we moved him in with DS1 when we got home. They are now across the landing (we've moved house) and I've never had the baby alarm in my bedroom, we just leave their door open a bit.

Sparrowlegs248 · 13/08/2016 19:45

Still.in with me at 12 months, but preparing to move him before the next one arrives!

Fluffsnuts · 13/08/2016 21:17

Tried at 6 months but I was getting much less sleep keep traipsing to his room for feeds so brought him back in with us in the co-sleeper. Trying again now at 7.5 months but were on night 2 and it's not going well. I really don't want him in with us, we wake him and he wakes us.

RandomMess · 13/08/2016 21:21

Longest I lasted sharing was 2 weeks Blush baby was fast asleep I was wide awake with every grunt and didn't sleep for those 2 weeks.

I am a very light sleeper, our house was VERY small with paper thin doors so tbf I think the we could hear each other easily enough.

The guidelines are there for a reason and if it works for you keep room sharing as long as possible Smile

NickyEds · 13/08/2016 21:28

With ds we slept in his room and returned to our room at 6 months. Dd went I to her own room last weekend, she's one , I miss her a lot but she's sleeping for an extra hour in the morning so we must have been disturbing her.

orangebird69 · 13/08/2016 21:32

Day 1. But I was (and still am) in with him - ds is 10mo now. Bfing and cosleeping in a double bed. The cot has proved to be a nicely furnished ornament so far....

Ellieboolou27 · 13/08/2016 21:38

First dd 3 years Blush, 2nd dd 3 months! Was defiantly a case of pfb, however dd2 is a much better sleeper, I'd have waited the 6 months with my 2nd but her room is a walk in through our room so o just slept with door open
