11 month old baby waking ridiculously early

Help! My son used to start shuffling around in his cot around 5ish and I'd always be able to pick him up and resettle him. Now there is no shuffling, just straight from lying down to sitting up so he's awake at 5am! How can I get him back to sleeping to 7am?!

Oh, I think that's good. Really, I just think it's the timing of the first nap that matters. Lots of daytime sleep certainly makes for better nights - overtiredness is the worst IMO.

Hope you also napped!!

My DS is 22 months and nothing has ever made any difference regarding his phases of waking before 6am. He's done it ever since he started reliably sleeping through at about 9 months (before that he'd often doze on and off with me til about 9am - boy was I smug!). Actually I'd now say pre-6am is his norm and the later wake ups are just random gifts Smile

We ruled out the light mornings as a cause because he does it in winter too. The length/timing/absence of his daytime nap only seems to affect what time he falls sleep, not the time he wakes. The amount of daytime physical activity also doesn't seem to be significant as he'll still wake at 5.30am after a full-on day at nursery the day before.

In the end I had to give up thinking I was doing something 'wrong' to make him wake so early and just accept that we have an early riser. The opposite of me. Pre-baby the thought of being vertical before 7am was horrific!

To be fair my first did this from 9 months till about 19 months (start of dark mornings and tired at nursery). She is 3 now and sleeps till 8 (although been phases of pre 6:30 inbetween). I hope this gets better but yes I think some kids are early risers. It does pass. But anything pre 6 knackers me for the day. At least you get to work on time.

Not - yes I napped too! It was needed! We went to baby group and he's now sleeping again. I'd say I started around 3.20 and he took ages to drop. He was asleep in my arms but would wake when I tried to put him in cot.

Noisy - Brew coffee for you too, its needed isn't it that early in the morning! I'm going to see how he goes with the napping and if it affects his wake up times for a bit longer. If anything, it's getting easier to get him to sleep for his naps s he's def more tired. This morning though I just laughed when I saw the time. I just went with it!

Munchkin - 8am is amazing. So jel Grin

Ooh, promising! Well done for persevering

Twinklestar2 · 02/07/2015 12:35

He didn't sleep till 7.45 last night though. Would keep waking himself up when I put him in the cot so not sure if that's why we got 6am!

He had a 2 hour nap between 10-12. Was so easy to send him off to sleep!

Heading on a long car journey later today so timing that for half 2 so in time for another nap.

That's why mine go to bed at 8. Only now at 3 with no nap are we thinking about moving bed time earlier.

Twinklestar2 · 02/07/2015 18:32

Will try the later bedtime again tonight then... Usually he gets ratty and wants to go up for his bath at 5.50 but today he seems happy just playing quietly.

Half hour nap in car today between 2.30-3. Would've been longer if my husband hadn't stopped for petrol Angry

It's just generally shifting the whole routine later on.

Twinklestar2 · 02/07/2015 22:53

Late bedtime tonight of half 8! Towards the end of his bath and getting ready he was tired and hungry. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

How was your wake up call this morning?

Twinklestar2 · 03/07/2015 11:48

Awake at 5.25 but managed to resettle till 7.45! Plus OH got up with him so I got a lovely long lie in Smile.

He went back down to sleep at 10 and is still sleeping now.

Update:

He had 2 hours between 10.20-12.20 then we were out and about this afternoon and he doesn't sleep outside grrrt so he slept when we got back between 5-6. So late! He's only just gone to bed now!

We are away at families tho so he's out of sync but def got loads to work with.

Well... how was this morning?

Twinklestar2 · 05/07/2015 08:57

Sorry was busy yesterday all day!

Up at 7.25, napped in car 10.30-11.50 then got a bit messed up cause he fell asleep whilst out at a family do around 4. I then picked him up after he'd been asleep for about 20 mins and put him in the car to drive home but he didn't sleep cause he'd been disturbed. Cried for most of the journey back Sad

7.25 is great! Poor little thing fighting his sleep

Twinklestar2 · 06/07/2015 23:22

It wasn't nice Sad

The later bedtime is definitely working here.
