I'm struggling to get my DS down before 9!? he has dinner about 5/5.30 bottle about 6/6.30 dozes on bottle then wakes when it's finished. has lots of wind eventually giving in about 9. This seems late to me.
he's not a good sleeper, wakes every 30 mins to an hour.....

Mine have never slept before 9pm.
At 7months they would sleep 9pm-8am, plus x3 naps a day ( 1hr am, 2 hr pm, 30 mins late pm)

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/06/2015 20:17

At 7 months it was 7pm, but if she so much as dozed off for a second after 4pm then there would be no chance of getting her down before 9. I kept her awake after 4!

Hidingbehindclouds · 11/06/2015 20:19

My 7mo dd is in bed before 8. Nap no later than 4pm, bath at 7, bottle, bed. Routine works for us, but all babies are different

Waggamamma · 11/06/2015 20:53

My 8month old bedtime routine starts 6:30 and usually asleep for 7:15. He wakes up anytime between 1am and 4am for a feed and nappy change, then sleeps til 5ish and resettled until 6:30ish when my other dc gets up and wakes the whole house.

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 20:57

he's still awake but still bringing up wind. really need to buy some gripe water I think

6.5mo DD is usually asleep about 8.30 but has only recently started pulling forward from later in the evening. Perhaps as little as a month ago it was more like 9 or 10.

She now gets nappy/sleepsuit/stories with her big sister at 7.00/7.30 then a little cuddle in bed with big sis, then lights out for DD1 and downstairs with DD2 for sleeping bag and bottle.

It is a joy when they start going down at a normal kiddy bedtime and you get your evenings back :)

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 21:39

he still won't sleep, I'm going crazy. all I want is a bath! Sad Sad

I think you need to cut out the late bottle doze. Also, what time does he get up in the morning?

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 22:04

up for the day between 6.30 and 8. he's so unpredictable! he was going to sleep on that bottle which is why I got used to letting him doze. do I just keep 'poking' him to stop him falling asleep.

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 22:05

he doesn't sleep well at night so I think he's over tired generally. we have a routine but doesn't seem to make much difference. never had these issues with DD

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/06/2015 22:13

I always struggled with a routine with DD. She was (still is at 19 months!) a fairly awful sleeper. She just didn't seem to respond to routine like other babies. I remember it starting to get a bit easier at around 8 months when she was down to 2 naps (40 mins in the morning and an hour and 20 after lunch). Before that she would never sleep longer than half an hour at a time. You have my sympathies!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/06/2015 22:15

Can you push back the 6.30 bottle and make that his bedtime bottle? DD had her last feed at 6.45ish (still has a glass of milk about that time). It does sound like over tiredness is an issue and maybe that's why he's so awake late evening?

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 22:20

I think he needs a little cat-nap in the afternoon in order for me to push back his lady bottle, if he misses that nap then he's sooo tired abd miserable by 6/6.30 that I have to give him the bottle. I think a lot of his issues are because he's so windy and uncomfortable he can't sleep well and daytime naps are a impossible unless he's being carried or pushed in the buggy.

lady bottle Grin Grin last bottle I mean.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/06/2015 22:28

Ok, what time are his current day time naps?

Our loose routine at that age was up at 7ish, half an hour nap at 9.30, nap at 12.30ish (could only manage more than half an hour if she was being pushed in the pram!) and final nap at 3.30-4. No naps after 4 which meant she was ready for bed at 7.

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 22:37

depending on when he gets up, he normally likes to have a 2hrs (but invariably can only manage an hour max) nap in the morning, then an hour in the afternoon, then looks tired again about 4 but I'm struggling to get him to sleep then he won't give in if he's got the slightest bit of wind

Waggamamma · 11/06/2015 23:07

if he's tired at 6:30 try just putting him to bed?

ElleOhElle · 11/06/2015 23:33

he's too windy. wakes up after a few minutes in pain or wakes up while I'm winding him.

8pm for DS. Up for the day 730ish, nap at 930 for 30 mins so maybe another at 11 for 30 mins (longer if in car or being held). Can have at least an hour mid afternoon and then another nap at 6 ish. Although tonight he slept on DH from 630 - 720 then had bath, pjs, bottle and still down at 8.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 12/06/2015 13:18

Sounds like your biggest issue is the wind then if it's preventing him sleeping/waking him up. DD was a very windy baby but it was much better by 6 months.
How is weaning going?

ElleOhElle · 12/06/2015 20:43

he's very hungry, eats anything. he seems much more relaxed tonight, sparko about 30 mins ago. so fingers crossed he's feeling better, maybe a bit of teething? ? who knows, these babies like to keep us on our toes.

OP posts:
Artandco · 12/06/2015 21:13

How often does he feed and how much if bottle fed? I would be tempted to move feeds around now he's older so he doesn't actually have milk in the evenings before bed and had more often in the day to reduce windyness.
Move his last milk and dinner around so he is eating solids before bed with a little water instead of a whole milk bottle

ElleOhElle · 13/06/2015 19:48

artandco, I like that idea, he has 4 bottles of between 7 and 8 oz.
I might try swapping dinner and bottle around although I'm not sure if he'd be too tired to eat later??

OP posts:
Artandco · 13/06/2015 20:10

I would try and make the bottles smaller then. Maybe offer 6 a day at 4-5oz each. I would encourage 3 naps a day

Am- 1 hr long, after lunch 2 hrs, 4/5pm- 30mins. Try giving him a bottle around 3pm, then he has time for that to go down before trying to get a last nap in. Then give another bottle around 5/5.30pm, dinner 6/6.30pm

Head up to bed around 7.30 for 8pm asleep. There's no point getting stressed about 6/7 pm bedtime if it's taking until 9/10pm. Aim for the later time of 8pm and then you can adjust as suits.

At 7months ours still fell asleep in living room, and we took up to bed with us later when we went. Would something like this suit you?

badg3r · 13/06/2015 20:46

My six month old DS is asleep any time between 8 and 10. When the eye rubbing starts he gets a clean nappy, stories, then bf and sleep. It works for us!
