I don't feel super confident that my routine is amazing, but this is it in case it's helpful!:

6:30am. Wakes and breastfeed.
7:30am. Breakfast.
8:30-9:30am. Breastfeed then morning nap.
11:30am-1:30pm. Breastfeed then long nap.
2pm. Lunch.
3-4pm. Breastfeed then afternoon nap.
5pm. Dinner.
5:30pm. Bedtime routine starts. He gets an 8 ounce bottle of formula before bed.
6:30pm. Asleep. (He wakes two or three times for feeds at night, usually around 10:30, 2am, 4am.)

Those times do vary depending on what we're doing, but that's a good day.

We slot activities in during his awake time in the morning or afternoon - like a singing class or Gymboree etc.

I should also add that he won't nap in his cot so they either happen on me or in a buggy or sling. He does sleep in his cot at night, though.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 14/09/2014 15:27

5-6am (!) wake

7am breakfast

Wrestling with daddy before work !

8 am bottle then nap in cot for 1 hr or 90 mins

Play with toys on play mat while I do a bit of housework
Or we go out to shops etc / errands/ or park

11 am bottle

12 noon lunch

Play together / sing / cuddle

2.30 pm bottle and nap in cot for 2 hrs or nap in pram if we are out

4.30pm play together , sing, sits in high chair and watches me prepare dinner while I sing badly to smooth fm

5pm dinner

6pm bottle

Cuddle
6.30pm bed

Wakes at 2am for a bottle

That is a typical day when we are not visiting friends or family and not weekends

Wow writing it down makes it seem so mundane but we have fun !

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 14/09/2014 15:29

Whoops bath between dinner and bottle so bath around 5.30 pm

Tangoandcreditcards · 14/09/2014 15:40

I'll share, but whatever I'm doing ain't working so don't do this.

Went to HV 2 weeks ago about still sicking up and she said 6x5oz bottles was too much and to cut down to 4, so this is what I have been doing since.

He's still sicking all milk feeds and sleep is shite

3-4am wakes crying 5oz of milk/sleep feed
Often won't settle so sleeps on me/DP until...
6am wake - play
7am breakfast (weetabix)
Sleep of 20-40mins at some point
9.30am - 5oz bottle
If we go out in the pram I might get 40min nap in, otherwise 20min around 12pm
12.30pm lunch (sandwich/pancakes)
3-3.30pm 5oz bottle**
6pm dinner (meat and potato/omelette/whatever we're having)
Bath
7pm bottle 5oz
Bed

Then MIGHT wake at 11/12/1/2 until next feed. Sometimes gets an extra bottle (naughty!).

** afternoon nap depends on if we go out (always sleeps in the buggy) hasn't had one AT ALL for last 2 days, is having one now (!!)

So erm, sorry so long, but watching with interest coz feel all over the place! Especially sleep wise.

Tangoandcreditcards · 14/09/2014 15:43

Sorry. Mine was a bit ranty! He's lovely in between, can you tell I didn't get much sleep last night!

luckiestgirlintheworld · 14/09/2014 18:37

Wakes about 6.30am- breastfeed

Awake for 3 hours - playing and breakfast (DH does this slot while I sleep because I get up in the night if baby wakes)

Breastfeed and nap for 2 hours

Awake for 3 and a half hours - playing and having lunch

Breastfeed and nap for half an hour

Awake for three hours - playing and having dinner. Bath and bed routine

Breastfeed and bed about 6.30pm

Dream feed 6oz of formula at 10.30pm

Cries around 4am- will hopefully settle himself but recently has needed an hour or two attention (teething)

We do 2 or 3 clubs a week and go for walks or go shopping, or play together, or he plays while I watch TV do housework

beccajoh · 14/09/2014 18:47

He's almost 8 months but this is what we've been doing since weaning. It's not set in stone - we put him down for a sleep when he's ready, but those times are roughly when it happens.

6-6.30 - wake milk
7.45 - breakfast
9.00 - sleep, usually 90 mins
10.45 - milk
Midday - lunch
13.00 - sleep, 60-90 mins
15.00 - milk
16.30 - tea
17.30 - bath
18.15 - milk and bedtime
22.00 - dreamfeed (varies hugely whether he'll have anything)

He nearly always wakes between 4-5 am needing his dummy putting back in.

beccajoh · 14/09/2014 18:48

He sometimes has a short nap late afternoon if we're out and about.

jibadeah · 14/09/2014 19:06

7 ish - wakes up, milk
8 ish - breakfast
9- nap (anything from 40 mins- 2 hours)
10 or 11am milk
12 - lunch
1-2am - nap (again varies in length)
3pm - milk
5 - 6pm dinner
6.20 bath
6.45 milk
7 bed
11pm dream feed then he sleeps till morning

Twinklestar2 · 14/09/2014 19:15

Sorry to hijack thread but could you tell me when you started to implement a routine?

s88 · 14/09/2014 19:16

6.30 wake
6.45 bottle 9 oz
8.00 breakfast - bagel , egg or cereal
9.15 sleep
10.30 bottle 9 oz
12.30 dinner - puree and fruit or yoghurt
1.30 sleep
2.30 bottle 9 oz
4.00 sleep
5.00 dinner
6.30 bottle 9 oz
6.45 Bed

Madallie · 14/09/2014 20:38

Wow thanks all for your replies. Can I just ask. What happens if you need to go out? Do your dc sleep in their prams? And for the same length of time?

My dd will drop off if very tired but only for about 20-30 mins which is now way enough. The thing is, I have a toddler so cannot be tied to the house ll day for naps. This can lead to lots of overtiredness Sad.

jibadeah · 14/09/2014 21:43

DS sleeps in his pram or the car, but yes for a shorter amount of time. When this happens the next nap is usually extra long to compensate, or he will have 3 naps instead of 2. Or an early night.

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/09/2014 06:20

madallie DS nearly always sleeps in a pram/car. In fact, it's the only time he ever sleeps for longer than 20/30 mins. Time-wise I let him sleep for as long as he will but he usually wakes up when we stop anyway.

I just bung him in and go regardless of time. He doesn't normally cry, even if he takes 20 mins or so to drop off. If he's cranky at home and can't/won't sleep I often dash out with the pram to get him quiet. (Don't have a toddler!)

If I have to be in the car for longer than 30mins, I sometimes have to put up with some screaming, especially if the traffic is slow!

This is the only time I might get an hour or so nap for him in the day, it doesn't seem to make any difference to the night (not) sleeping.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 15/09/2014 06:34

Twinkle he started to fall into a nap routine at around 3 or 4 months so I took that opportunity to get him napping upstairs in his cot. ( took a couple of weeks )

Since weaning the routine has been more structured and a lot easier now there are proper meal times .

Madallie if we go out he'll nap in his pram but probably for not as long . If we have a long journey in the car he'll sleep for all of it !

Both grandmas have a travel cot upstairs and he'll nap there if we are visiting.

Now , If only he would sleep past 5 am I would be a very happy woman ! Lol

beccajoh · 15/09/2014 07:30

Twinkle we got into that routine when we started weaning, but he just did it himself.

OP, we're not tied to the house at all! I've got a two year old DD and she's at pre-school three mornings a week, so DS goes in his buggy and sleeps there. He usually stays asleep to I leave him in his buggy outside the kitchen door when we've dropped madam at pre-school. She still has a couple of hours' sleep at lunch time, so we're nearly always at home for that.

My daughter was a different kettle of fish altogether - she never got herself in a nice routine like that (god knows I tried!!). I haven't done anything different with DS. He's just been a more compliant and predictable baby since birth, so I wouldn't beat yourself up if your LO isn't doing what other babies are doing!

Does sound a bit like your baby is over-tired?

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/09/2014 21:17

Went to the HV today.

She said not to bother trying to exercise too much control over daytime sleeps, when DS is tired to put him down but he'll sleep for as long as he'll sleep. (Which is pretty much the non-routine we've been up to)

She was approving of our daytime feeding routine (as I posted above).

She suggested not giving DS milk at night, instead giving him water and not even taking him out of the cot(!!)

We've also moved him to his own room tonight on her suggestion (we kept him in with us until now as he wakes up so much). Wish me luck!

She did mention his dribbling and say he's teething which would disrupt his routine (such that it is) but he's been as dribbly/chewy since he was 4 months and no teeth yet! So he's been "disrupted" for half his life. [hmmm]

Sorry to keep posting but not sure if any of this is helpful as your DD sounds similar, but sharing as I go. I'll let you know how we get on.

Madallie · 15/09/2014 21:35

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully some of the hv advise helps your ds.

We actually had quite a good day today but that's only because we stayed in for all naps, which with a toddler, I did not find fun!

Anyway, it went like this:

7am - woke (woke at 6 ish first but settles with dummy)
7.30- 8oz milk
8.30 - breakfast
9.15- 10.35 - nap
12.00- 8oz milk
12.30- lunch
1.15-3.00- nap
7.00- 8oz milk
7.15-asleep

She seemed much more rested today which was lovely. I just don't want to have to stay in for all her naps really.
Dd did actually seem really tired by 6/6.30pm so nay try putting her down earlier tomorrow. Just hope she doesn't wake early!

My baby is 7 and a half months and this is a typical day for her

7am - wakes, formula feed

8:30am - breakfast (usually mixture of cereal/porridge, toast, fruit, yoghurt)

10am - formula feed immediately followed by nap, approx 45 minutes

12pm - lunch (usually something light, packed lunch if we are out, sandwich, fruit, snacky things)

1pm - formula feed

3-4pm - dinner (hot meal, eg, spag bol, cottage pie)

4-4:30 - small formula feed immediately followed by short nap, approx 20-30 minutes

6:00-6:30pm - bath, cbeebies bedtime hour, cuddles

7:00 - formula feed. Usually falls right asleep unless teething, sleeps until 7am next day.

Twinklestar2 · 16/09/2014 05:05

Thx for replying Smile

IShallCallYouSquishy · 16/09/2014 05:26

DS is 6.5 months

0600-0700 wake and BF
0800ish breakfast (with toddler DD)
0900ish nap for 40/45 mins
One or 2 BF's during morning
1130ish lunch
1200ish nap. Could be 45 mins, could be 2 hours.
One or 2 BFs during afternoon
1600ish nap for 40/45 mins
1700ish dinner
1800 BF
1830 bath with DD
1900 BF until comatose

Overnight? Let's just say that's a work in progress Confused it's been 2 feeds past 2 nights. Night before was 5. Last week he only woke once for 4 nights. I do tend to feed as soon as I hear him as I know it's the quickest way to get him back to sleep. Rod, back, I know Wink

Tangoandcreditcards · 16/09/2014 06:49

We got through the night with no feeds! (ish - 5.55am is morning, right?)

Had to settle him at 1am with some water and a pat on the bum (10 HV points for that one, worked a treat! DP says he always does that, though, why does no-one tell me these things!?).

Still, not a bad night as things go, onwards and upwards! Did your DD sleep til a good time madallie?

Madallie · 16/09/2014 11:53

Hi tango, yeah we actually had a good night. She went down at 7.15pm. She woke about 5 ish, when I would usually go in and settle her with her dummy but I decided to leave her and see what would happen. Anyway, she settled herself after about 20 mins of babbling away happily Smile. She then slept Til 7.40. I was amazed!!

Going to try to keep to nap times again today and see if this happens again (keeping fingers crossed).
I'm not going to stay in every day for naps but I've been out and about so much every day that she's hardly had chance to nap. Am thinking maybe if I'm in for naps half the week or so it will stop her getting overtired.

OP posts:
SleepyLambs · 18/10/2014 15:54

My youngest is the same age. She's EBF and takes some solid food/purees.

7-7:30 Wake
Walk oldest to nursery
9:15-9:30-11 Nap
11 Play
11:45-12:45: Walk to pick up oldest from nursery and park
1:15 Nap
3:15 Play
5:00 Dinner
6:45-7 Bed

She typically sleep all night without waking unless something is bothering her like a new tooth, illness etc.

pippap2 · 19/10/2014 12:31

Wow. I have all this to look forward too. It does look at tad mundane, day in day out but Im sure it is far from that. great routines mums x
