I'm really struggling with my 11 week old baby

My 11 week old baby is very unsettled & cries a lot. Days are so hard as my husband is upstairs trying to sleep because he works nights whilst I try to entertain my crying baby all day. We are struggling to get a day time routine. My baby will only nap on me and when he is awake he isn't settled. I'm struggling to do literally anything in the day. My baby sleeps okay on a night in his cot but I'm so exhausted that I need to go to bed as soon as he does which is between 20:00 & 22:00. I also suffer with fatigue due to my Crihns Disease. My baby's tried everything for colic with no success. We are now trying infant Gaviscon for reflux as he is very sick during the day. My baby doesn't like slings/baby carriers. He will sit in his bouncer/rocker seat for a few mins or lay on his play mat for a few mins. Any help/advice/support welcome from mums especially those with husbands/partners who work nights. My poor husband is exhausted due to the lack of sleep. He can't change his shifts and changing his job isn't an option. HELP!

ContentedSidewinder I did what you have advised before we went to the GP on Friday. I just kept getting told it's normal for some babies. I just don't know anymore. We've seen 3 different GPs. Health visitor doesn't say it's normal but a phase & he'll grow out of it.
I'm having a very low day today which doesn't help.
All I've done is cry this morning don't seem to be able to pull myself together.
Little one is currently asleep on my knee.

That's awful, although a gp said to me during a visit "babies cry for lots of reasons, has she been fed" my husband had to leave the room at that point!! Can your health visitor get you an appointment with pediatrician? (Our gp was crap and i'm sure it was our health visitor who got us referred to hospital) Sometimes they can sway things a bit. I feel so bad for you because I know exactly how you feel, it's like hitting your head against a brick wall sometimes! One night we even took dd to drop in centre at hospital at midnight (she's been screaming non stop since 8pm) there's crying and crying and as a mum you know when it's because something is wrong. I took a video to show the pediatrician and straight away he said "yep sounds like reflux" he was brilliant, listened to our concerns and really helped us out. You need to get referred, can't believe they won't refer you, if just to shut you up (if you get my meaning). Have you told anybody how you are feeling emotionally? That could spur somebody into action. I know its a last resort but getting teary in front of gp might help. Sending you big hugs.

Hope you're ok hunni, you got anything sorted?

Hello Impala77, thank you for your message of concern.
I hope you & your family are well.
I went to my GPs today for a review of my Crohns Disease with another GP at my surgery who I haven't seen since my little boy was born - it's a large practice. The GP was instantly concerned as my normal weight is around 9 stone (I only put a stone on throughout my pregnancy). I now weigh just over 7 stone (my little boy is 13 weeks now). She then proceeded to ask me why I thought I'd lost so much weight?
Well the flood gates opened & I ranted on for a good 15 minutes (whilst crying) about how I was struggling to care for my little boy & myself due to his relentless crying.
The GP has prescribed lactose free SMA for us to try, I collect it tomorrow. The GP also feels that I may have postnatal depression so I have been prescribed antidepressants which I will also collect tomorrow.
So fingers crossed hopefully we will both start to feel better soon.

I'm so glad to hear you are finally getting some help. I thought you may have post natal depression (I had that too) that's bad enough without the chrons and a difficult baby. Really hope things start to pick up for you hun xx

If the SMA doesn't work, try Aptamil or Cow and Gate Anti Reflux (if you haven't already). It helped us where Ranitidine and Domperidone didn't. Also agree with the Jumperoo. My littles boy went in it from about 12 weeks with head support. And keep trying the wrap slings. He might decide he likes it one day. It was a life saver for us xx
