I'm stressing a little. It's 29 degrees In LO's room. He's south facing and I've tried to keep it cool all day but with no success. He does have a fan and is asleep right now but I worry its too warm. He's on in a vest so done what i can. Just feel bad for him.just to add It's no cooler anywhere in the house.

How old is he? DD's room is baking too. Once she's properly asleep I'm going to open her door again to try and get a through-breeze, and leave the fan on until we all go to bed.

If he is asleep, though, it can't be bothering him too much, which is a good thing!

CarlyRose80 · 06/07/2013 20:42

Yeah that's what I thought. He's 7 months. I've just opened his door for some air and now we are all tip toeing upstairs lol

It is horrible. DD's room is south facing and has the boiler in it! She's a year older so it feels easier this year, but I hated it last year. I remember transferring her down to the travel cot in the living room a few nights last summer as that was the coolest room in the house.

Middlesexmummy · 06/07/2013 21:02

Hi there , my dd s room is reading 27 degrees , she s in a vest and there's a fan running but it's baking , last night she woke at 1 crying , I'm sure it's the heat !

BotBotticelli · 07/07/2013 20:41

Same here - 26 degrees on the monitor. DS is only in a vest and a 1 tog sleeping bag. We have a fan running all night to keep him cool and the window open, for all the good that does in this heat!

He slept as normal last night so I dont think it is bothering him, but I am keeping a tippy cup of cold water in the fridge for him in case he wakes up hot and bothered.

footflapper · 07/07/2013 20:45

I was reading on here earlier about putting a damp towel over a fan, maybe try that? Smile

InsanelyBrainDeprived · 07/07/2013 20:51

It's 24 in my dc room. He's nearly 2 and in a vest and 1 tog sleeping bag. Upstairs windows open and his door is ajar to let a little cool air in. Just checked him, he's cool, comfortable and not clammy. My 3 year old is in shorts vest and has one cellular blanket over him with another close to hand.

Thurlow · 07/07/2013 20:55

DD is now just in her vest. Window open and fan on but it's still quite stuffy. She's fast asleep but is starfished on her back, when she normally sleeps curled up on her front, so I imagine she's sticky! I think I'm going to brave it just as the vest tonight - we'll have to turn the fan off otherwise DP and I won't sleep at all, it's too noisy. I'll just assume she'll wake me if she's too cold!

Jayne266 · 07/07/2013 20:57

I was just going to start a thread about this my ds room is 30 and he's 11 months. so is everyone using fans and keeping the door open? I dont need to move him?

GreatSoprendo · 07/07/2013 21:34

I guess everyone is having this problem this weekend! My LO is 3 months old and sleeps in our room which is 26.5 at the mo. Fan is on, door is open and he is just in a tshirt and nappy. Will leave the fan on all night as we did last night but is there much else I can do? Does a bottle of frozen water in front of the fan make much difference? Not that I have time to freeze one tonight! Any other tips? Can't move him to another room as he's already in the coolest in the house!

teacher123 · 07/07/2013 21:46

I just posted on another similar thread-last year when DS was 3 months old we spent £200 on a portable air conditioner. We use it to cool his room down before he goes to bed/goes down for naps but we don't leave it on all night. He has a fan which we do leave on and the window open-once we go to bed I'll open his door as well. The upstairs of our house is always boiling...

valiumredhead · 07/07/2013 21:49

I've read a wrung out damp sheet draped over an open window works well.

CarlyRose80 · 08/07/2013 20:49

Thank god it's cooler tonight 😄

I echo last post , so glad it's cooler tonight , over the last few nights I've gone from dd in just a vest , next night just nappy , 2 nights in sleep bag and now back to vest ! She s been really hot and bothered over the last few nights anyone else experienced this ?

jemstipp · 09/07/2013 20:55

32 on my 2 dds monitor and they are making little noises but I can't open the window (too low). One wearing a vest and the other a nightie. Door is open too.

birdsnotbees · 09/07/2013 20:58

We've got all the windows open upstairs to get a through-breeze, all the doors open (inc kids' bedroom door), fan on in the kids' bedroom & both are just in pants and with sheets to sleep under (though they've both kicked them off). It's worked so far, and my DD gets really, really sweaty at the best of times!

But bedroom door has to be open (which I don't like as it's a fire hazard but no choice, it's just too hot in their little room otherwise).

Middlesexmummy · 09/07/2013 20:59

There's worse weather to come , heat wave at the weekend ! She refuses to drink any water either when she wakes , we ve had such a good run of sleep filled nights and now this :(

Middlesexmummy · 09/07/2013 21:01

Can't keep the door open too much either , kids next door making loads of noise , I think the fan noise either scared or irritated her as well

jemstipp · 09/07/2013 21:06

Were in the car today, ac on, sunscreens down, just in a vest and 16mo sweaty betty. Have to travel tomorrow for a 3 1/2 hour journey so am getting us all up early to beat the heat. Hope they go to sleep soon though, there is still a lot of chat and it's still reading 32. Unreal!

Passmethecrisps · 09/07/2013 21:11

Oh blimey. Nothing helpful to add just sharing the worry

Dd is 8 months old and despite all my efforts her room was 29 degrees at bed time. She is the queen of sleep associations and a massive wriggler so I was extremely reluctant to try her without a grobag but I had to.

She is sleeping now with the fan just outside the door. I have draped a cellular blanket over her legs purely because I need something over me when sleeping no matter how warm I am. Not holding out much hope for a peaceful night.

Passmethecrisps · 09/07/2013 21:12

And thanks for the tips on wet blanket over fan. I will try that tomorrow. Ironically I don't want the room to cool too much now and for her to wake with cold

Middlesexmummy · 09/07/2013 21:17

Forgot to say that one of the tips I picked up was to keep the windows open in her room all day but the blinds and curtains closed, it does seem to have made a bit if difference tonight

okthen · 12/07/2013 08:37

Argh I am hating the heatwave because of this. 8mo ds's room is 29 degrees. He has been waking LOADS. Dp has had some success with putting a damp flannel on ds's feet and neck when he wakes. But if I go in he roars for a feed (understandably I guess in this heat). He's gone from having one night feed at 3am-ish back to three feeds a night! (And then 3yo wakes up at 5.30am because the light is pouring through her open door). Groan. Really hoping he will go back to previous form when it cools down.

He sleeps in a vest with windows and door open btw.

igirisu · 13/07/2013 20:08

My son has been sleeping in a nappy with a cellular blanket over his legs which he kicks off, he is 3 weeks old, i tried him in a vest but every time i woke him up to feed he was clammy and red hot and the health visitor said its better for him to be to cold rather than too hot, should babies not sleep in just a nappy? confused!

ohforfoxsake · 13/07/2013 20:16

Have you a loft hatch? Left mine open the last few days - made a big difference.
