4 month sleep regression hell - anyone want to join me?!

DS2 is 18 weeks on Tuesday. He has always been a rubbish sleeper, waking up 3 times a night was considered BRILLIANT, but, since he turned 16 weeks, things have taken a turn for the (even) worse. Last night he woke up 6 times between 7 and 10pm (mainly while I was trying to watch The Killing III). I then lost count of how many times he carried on waking up after that. He came into bed with me when I couldn't settle him fairly easily in his cot anymore (which is what I usually do) at around 3am (I'm feeding to sleep unless I can get away with popping his dummy back in and/or giving him a quick cuddle). We slept better that way but still not great. He was unsettled and I was being head butted, punched and kicked (lots of throwing legs into the air trying to get farts out). And as for daytime? He goes to sleep quite easily, but will only sleep 20 or 30 minutes 4 or 5 times a day. He is tired almost as soon as he wakes up from a nap.
Oh, and thrown into the mix are the after effects of last weeks immunisations, a cold and possibly teething (lots of finger gnawing and nappy rash).
Is anyone else going through anything similar? I'm sure DS1 went through the same but I just can't remember it in any detail. I think he got the hang of long day time naps around 6 months. Does that sound right? I just have to ride it out don't I and take a kind of 'needs must' approach for now.....

Pixie, 6 times already? Poor you! How are you getting him back to sleep? And 10 days without a poo? Poor sausage. ds was going about 5 days until we saw a cranial osteopath.
I just read my first post again and have realised that things have definitely improved since then. DS now manages to stay asleep about 3 hours after first being put down (and then the shenanigans start!) He has done a poo today (a rather green and yucky one) so hopefully he'll be a bit more comfy tonight.
i express too pixie (weirdly getting 2oz from right boob as well!) but it's just a faff isn't it, as I have to express 4 times to feel safe that I've left enough for one feed. I do have a little freezer stash too, although saw skyfall with DS (he did not appreciate all those gun shots one bit). Still, they're only this little for such a short time and in a couple of months everything will have got easier again [hopeful emoticon].
How's everyone else doing? Oh, there he is. 3 hours on the dot...

After a bad week of loooong night feeds DS2 decided to roll over for the first time. That night he only woke once at 11pm then slept til 6am so I put it down to a developmental leap and thought 'phew glad that's over'

However last night went back to waking twice and feeding for an hour and half each time. Strange as he'd had loads of milk during the day. Don't think it's a growth spurt but we'll see

At least I had one good nights sleep so I know he can do it

I'm with you. DS3 is 18 weeks and waking every 2 hours or so for feeds, he then faffs about pushing, pulling (at the same time - ow!) snorting and wriggling on the boob. I am very very tired.

AugustMoon · 29/11/2012 10:28

He was sleeping from about 8pm til 5am not long ago.

Lucy - glad to hear it's improved, it's hard to notice sometimes! I'm settling ds with a dummy most times, if he doesn't want it then a cuddle and a song, and some white noise.

Snug - poor you, 90 min feeds? That sounds exhausting :(

Dh has gone out for a bit so I gave ds a bath and put him down with no fuss and ordered a pizza. It arrived, I had 1 slice and the nonsense started... First 2 times settled with dummy, then cuddle+hair dryer and the 4th time I've caved and I'm feeding him, watching my pizza cool down...

Oh Pixie! I hope you managed to enjoy your pizza. It is frustrating isn't it.

I of course spoke waaaaay to early and things aren't actually any better at all! What I don't get is at nap time and bed time DS is not fed to sleep, he goes into his cot drowsy yet awake etc etc so WHY does he insist on being bf throughout the night? I'm a bit baffled. Have had a little success with shush/pat to get him to settle in cot after feeding.
Augustmoon, ouch at the pushing pulling. DS does that too.
On the plus side I've found some dairy free cupcakes locally that are very yummy. DS is currently sleeping in a sling and I have a cake and cup of tea in front of me waiting to be consumed.
I'll be back (much) later no doubt!
